I had a very strange LD. I was barely aware, but I remember specifically that I kept trying to announce that it was a dream.
I kept trying but it was like my face was stuck and words wouldn't come out.
This happens a lot to me.

I've never been not able to speak, but I find myself restricted in many other ways..not being able to run, not being able to stop a car, not being able to pull the trigger on the gun...I wonder if it means something.
This also happens to me. Well, at least when I want to speak I can't but when I don't force it, it comes out all nice and smooth like.
Ouch. lol
Your mind is the only restriction, if you realise that it is a dream you can have the most control possible. If something goes wrong realise that your mind did this, then try to realise that you are your mind and you can fix it.
You basically have to will that you can speak. Usually when I do this with dreams it enables me to do anything.
You could not speak because you believed that you couldn't speak, a trick which the dream played on you.. Next time believe that you can and it should fix it. I'm not sure how good you are at dream control but this is a part of it.
I'm not one for dream meanings, but I do believe if you want to look at the meaning your dreams could have. This shows that you are indecisive in your waking life. Or perhaps you second guess things, something along these sort of lines. Or you are procrastinating.
As for the original topic. It is not uncommon for one to not be able to speak in a dream. Can you still communicate, VIA telepathy I.E. you can't talk, but the DC's generally understand what you are trying to communicate? This is quite common.
However if you are simply not able to communicate VIA any means this is quite strange. Perhaps SP is having quite the effect on your body so much so that it is carrying on into your dreams. There could be a few other reasons, but I digress.
I had that problem a few times, and I found some unique ways of getting around it. In one, I was sitting on the couch in my living room and my mom was vacuuming. I saw the digital clock on the cable box and realized it was a dream, so I started trying to tell my mom that it was a lucid dream. No matter how hard I yelled, it would not come out. So I told myself to work around it, and I was able to say "Hey mom, can you turn off the vacuum?" as soon as she did, and I believed it was a good enough excuse, I was able to say "I'm in a lucid dream!"
Try to remember that in dreams, it isn't really air and your vocal chords and your teeth and tongue that are making words... words don't even really exist, so other forms of communication should be just as legitimate, and you can just "think" words at people if you are having trouble 'saying' them.
Yeah I've had this problem many times. The words just won't come out. I have to really believe that I can talk. Or like Shift said many DC's can pick up what your thinking.
Same for me, except when I force words out, thay come out demonic, and I get really really really freaked out and try to wake up!
ya can do anything ya want in a dream, anytime ya want its that simple. i mastered everything having to do with lds before i found this site. i knew all this when i was like 5.
the only thing i didn't know was that it was called lucid dreaming. its all in ya head learn that and its nothing to do whatever ya feel like whenever ya want like me for example.
Oh, just let me clarify, I've never had these problems while lucid, because at that point I know I am able to break past the barriers...its more during non-lucid dreams that I've had this problem...I think it may have something to do with my fear of not being good enough in the eyes of my peers, since it manifests itself in so many ways.
Oh I remember that happening in FA with SP... pretty annoying, always end up destroying my room lol
Well, it often happens in my FAs.
It usually happens when I'm not very lucid so that must have something to do with it.
My dreamsign and RCs usually are induced when I wake up in my bed and I can't move. This is how I usually know it's a dream because I don't often wake up not able to move. =P
Anyways, my last LD was dumb and I had very little lucidity. It might've been because I was much too tired when I attempted and my affirmations were half-hearted.
I've had one dream that i can remember where i couldn't speak, when i was experiencing sp i went into a dream and something was happening but i can't remember and i tried to scream and talk but i made no sound.
I've gotten this quite a few times actually. It seems only to happen in this one reoccurring non-lucid dream of mine. In the dream I walk bravely into some sort of place feared by many and am consumed by an invisible force. As loud as I try to yell "HELP!" or something within that category, nothing comes out. Mentally verbally or otherwise. It's not the lack of someone to be saying it to though, considering a friend is always in the previous room. Does anyone know how I could perhaps implement some sort of method to defeat this dream force when it is overwhelming me? I have tried to convince myself that it doesn't exist and I'm dreaming. That doesn't work though because theres nothing there in the first place. BAH! PREDICAMENT! :horse:Quote:

something even worse than this is when you have sleep paralysis while your blanket happens to hang over your entire face, causing a semi-suffocation effect, and you are unable to yell for help because of the S.P., and you just accept your impending death right then and there, thinking you'll actually suffocate....then you wake up in the morning, and it's all fine.
but no matter how many times this happens, you can't convince yourself you'll be OK at the end of it all (while it's happening); you just think you're gonna die everytime, lol.
a very annoying thing that happens to me from time to time.
Aw, AirRick, that sounds scary. lol. When I was little, I used to not be able to speak in my LDs unless it "went with the script." My dreams had scripts and I wasnt allowed to go off of it. I remember being able to think of what I wanted to say but couldnt.
