      Best Christmas gift ever

Thats right, after, wow, two or three years of being interested in lucid dreaming, I finally had my first last night. Honestly, I just about lost hope as my dreams are extremely realistic. The strange thing is, I didn't do a thing to plan for it. I went to bed at about 4 am (couldn't really sleep) not even thinking about dreams.

I don't remember the non-lucid dream part very clearly, but when I went lucid, I can remember every second of it. I was walking with two of my friends who I know on my University campus. I look to my right (I'm still dreaming here) and I see my friend Anthony, who I haven't seen in years, and doesn't even live in the same city as me. I thought about it in the dream, thinking "this is weird, I haven't seen him in years!" This was the turning point. I remember asking myself, "Am I dreaming?" and the moment I realized I was in the dream and had full lucidity I turned to my two friends and said "I'm dreaming!"
I also began focusing on the palms of my hands and I rubbed them together, all being aware of every movement I was making. I was totally in control! One of my friends said, "cool, cool. How do you know you're dreaming?" and I said, "because, we can fly."
Thats when I decided to try something. I just, floated. I wanted to float, so I did and it worked. I did come back down to the ground, so it was sorta like a prolonged levitation of some sort. But, my two friends and I just began running and doing these really long jumps, and just soaring through the air!
Then...I got a text message, which woke me up. I'm a little bummed, but so so happy that I finally went lucid.
To everyone who has taken going lucid very serious with no kind of results, I've been there. I've been trying for years, and had just about concluded that all you guys were completely nuts, but it finally happened. Just really wanted to share this. If that was the first and last lucid dream of my life, all my time spent researching was worth it.

Omg congratulations!!! And welcome to the world of lucid dreaming! Isn't it just the most incredible feeling?

Your dream is so classic. It appears that most people, myself included, do the exact same thing the first time they become lucid. They turn to nearby DCs and announce that they're dreaming. So funny. Then they try to fly.

I'm so pleased for you. Keep up the good work! And keep sharing your experiences. You might want to start a dream journal on here

This is interesting, I always have a lucid dream on special events too. For example at my birthday I had a lucid dream, at Christmas evening (yesterday) I had one too. I wonder what influences that. I guess it's the minor expectation and hope which trigger it. Anyway don't see it as a Christmas gift, see it as a thing accomplished by your own effort .

      congrats !

and i agree with the poster above, I would say its an accomplishment brought about by your interest and effort way before venturing to say its a gift

      most common first lucid:

      "Am I dreaming?"
"OMG I'm dreaming! None of this is real!"
(Turns to talk to the non-existant people)
      "I'm dreaming!"

funny how thats the usual way it goes. (if you think about it.)

Congrats!! It's sooo exciting! I had been wanting to have a lucid dream ever since I was 14 years old and found out what lucid dreaming is... and I FINALLY had one 2 months ago, at age 26! Haha! It was a complete THRILL for me... I definitely understand! =)
