      first lucid; a bit confused!

Despite the fact that I haven't had one successful, real lucid, I actually do know quite a bit about the whole concept. When I wasn't actively practising the act of Lucidity, I was reading up on it, constantly. But this experience confused me.

      The dream was......

I was exiting a movie theater into a very popular area where the kids hang out; it's in a plaza. It was night time (dream sign....all my dreams are at night) and I stepped out of the exit and onto the sidewalk. I looked down at the plaza, and it was ABANDONED. Absolutely NO ONE there. This is when I said "I'm fucking dreaming!" and then, all of a sudden, I got an INTENSE tingling sensation and I felt like i was almost FALLING into the dream. I felt like I was there for a second....I got really excited and woke up...but the tingling sensation was still there for just a second.

Now, my question is, when you guys and girls lucid dream, or enter a lucid, do you consciously say "i'm dreaming!" or is that still a part of the unconscious dream state, resulting in you BECOMING conscious? because when I said i was "fucking dreaming" I was unconscious...almost as if my dream self said it but then triggered my consciousness in my REAL self.

I guess I just can't tell if this was just a rather odd dream, or an actual lucid. I know a lucid dream is just simply "knowing you are dreaming" regardless of if you can control them or not, but I dunno, this just confused me!

      anybody?

In one of the few lucid dreams I had some years ago (which happened to be the most vivid), I remember randomly saying out loud in the dream, "Hey, I'm dreaming!" It was weird; like you, I don't know if I knew it was a dream before or after I made the declaration. How convenient would that be if your dream sign was you saying "I'm dreaming!"?

I really think you've had a lucid dream cause first, you look down at the plaza, you saw it was abandonated and THEN you deduced that you were dreaming, it's a very typical reasoning of a conscious person. In fact, a lot of people get excited when thay're starting a LD and they wake up suddenly due to it. Your problem, I think, was that you couldn't stay conscious enough time to recognize clearly your dream and because of it you are confused.

A trick to stay up in the dreams is stick to something of the dream (f.ex.: a lamppost, a mailbox, a fence, a ring etc). I hope you get it the next time, greetings!!

Yeah, thats what I figured. The only thing I'm still a little confused about it is still just the fact of when you Lucid, do you consciously say "im dreaming" and THEN become lucid, or are you conscious and lucid when you say "im dreaming"? because in this case, i DEFINITELY was NOT lucid until AFTER i claimed i was dreaming.

Oh yeah; welcome to DV both of you =]

You can't become lucid in an instant, it's a gradual process. It isn't a question of before or after; WHILE you are saying "I'm dreaming" you are becoming lucid. And into the lucid dream you can continue developing your conscious level. You need more practise and concentration and you'll get the LDs.
