So I had my first LD last night...

But it was rather gloomy compared to what I've read from others' experiences.
Everything was a dull brown/black. Maybe it was due to the fact that the dream was about an outbreak of Avian Flu, it possibly had the general theme of death and it was simply out of my ability so early to change.

I didn't get that "wonderful feeling" that everyone seems to get during LDs. Is it going to always be like this for me, or was it just a one time thing?

It was still pretty sick to summon objects and lift objects with the thought of doing so. :D

Well, a first is a first! So congrats, I'm glad that all your invested time paid off!

As you have more lucid dreams, you'll want to read the Dream Stabilization and Vividness Tutorial, which has loads of ways to strengthen and help your dream. Focus.

The wonderful feeling is called being excited and it's like a natural high. You did not get this while summoning objects etc?

Then what does give you a good feeling? lol

I felt good, but it wasn't that glorious feeling that everyone says they get.

I've had around 6 lucids in the last month or so. Mostly for me, they are exciting. It depends how long you can stay lucid for. if its for like an hour dream time then hell yeah your gonna have some fun cause u get to mess around and what not. lucids that only last a minute or so are obviously less exciting. And to answer your question no I've never got a real euphoric feeling in an LD. It is thrilling none the less when you wake up with an unbroken stream of conciousness. yeah! wooot go me :)

I had two really crappy LD's before I had an amazing one.

Hi, I find it hard to believe that your dream whas very lucid or vivid.
because what happends most of the time(and with my first time I realized.)
really thinking, OMG I am dreaming, and I know! and people get to exited and wake up, it just needs some training.

Congratulations on your first lucid. Now, just try again :D Like any other dream, they can start out spooky or gloomy. The trick is learning how to turn it around with positive thinking. That is what makes lucid dreams so much better than regular dreams. You can be aware enough to try and influence the direction things go.

The think the rush and feeling of awe is usually associated with highly vivid lucid dreams, which you said yours was not. Don't worry, there are many levels of clarity and vividness in LDs. Some of mine are hardly better than having a really intense daydream, while others I have to constantly reasure myself by doing reality checks that it is a dream because it is so lifelike. It seems random, but it may be due to what stage of REM sleep you are in. A good tip is before you do anything engage all your senses: look at your body, notice what clothes you are wearing, feel texture, listen for sound, focus on your immediate environment etc. Then once it is stabilized go off and have fun.
