Half Asleep, Or four fifths I should say.

I was recently on a backpacking trip and encountered a strange phenomenon that I've never heard of before. I was transitioning out of a dream and found myself in a zone that was entirely white. Nothing too special about that, however, I was able to hear everything that going on outside my tent. I hear birds chirping and frogs croaking. I was able to think consciously, but with the influence of my groggy state, the thoughts were ridiculous.

I was trying to wake my friend up and ask for his slingshot so I could kill the frogs and eat them for breakfast (Not something I've ever done, or plan on doing. I was in a weird state). The problem was that I was stuck in this plane of white, unable to move or make a sound. I couldn't wake myself up.

I went through an absurd dream that must have been how I imagined it was outside, where I was attacked by a frog (which was more like a Lizard or something) that would leap and me and then I kept punching it away. I was able to feel everything, but what bothered me was that I could hear what was really going on and I knew it was a dream.

Anyone familiar with this sort of experience, where one or more senses are awake while the body is still asleep?

Yes I'm familiar with such experiences, for me too the sense that is awake is hearing.

They say that we routinely hear sounds from the real world in our dreams and unconsciously transform them into dream images. It makes sense that while half-awake we can discern better what belongs to the dream world and what doesn't.

Yes, I'm quite annoyed by those kinds of dreams. I don't like any senses to be present. I want them all turned off and remodeled to dream senses. Hehe..

But that can only happen in a nice, restful sleep early in the morning, for me.

The partial-sleep dreams occur when I've overslept or it's late-morning, probably because of those sounds going on in the house. Because you're like 4/5ths asleep, you are essentially asleep... but that 1/5 makes it a really annoying experience.

Oh, also, something that bleeds through is a partial sense of feeling. I get these itches on my legs, or perhaps a sort of tingling, and it's quite distracting from the dream.
