Red face RC worked...IN REAL LIFE

Ok, so this was very embarrassing.

I had woken up very early the day after my birthday, because I heard some random family member who doesn't live with me screaming my name at the top of the stairs (I live in the basement) and I went upstairs very sleepily and tired, and found peanut butter smeared all over the doorknob.

I thought, "This is weird, I must be dreaming!" So I tried the finger through hand, I just poked my hand. Then I pinched my nose, and I COULD BREATHE!

I was so amazed at how vivid everything was and got excited. The first thing I tried was to run right through the door. I ran right at the door, closed my eyes and......SMACK!

I almost fell back down the stairs, but grabbed myself. Suddenly my aunt opened the door and asked if was alright.

I pinched my nose again, and noticed I was only pinching the top half and I could breath through the small opening I was leaving. I tried it the right way, and guess what...I wasn't dreaming and the peanut butter was a birthday prank from my aunt.

Has anything like this happened to anyone before?

That's one for the history books. Looks like her prank worked beyond what she could have hoped for.

      No similar experiences, though.
      Thankfully, I might add.

      Haha! That's hilarious.

I can't say I've had anything like that happen to me. I really hope it doesn't. The last thing I want to do is go jumping out my window, or down a flight of stairs, because I think I can fly.

Lol! Well things could be much worse if she was in the room with you while you were trying to run through the door

      Haaaahaha

Always a good idea to have a second RC ready (or a third I guess, in your case) when the first one works.

The exact thing happened with me yesterday!

I was with closed eyes trying to WILD...But i was having Closed Eyes Visuals [a little HPPD from LSD] and one time was like i could see [dark] everything around me with closed eyes... [maybe was HI]...So i pinched my nose...And....

I WAS BREATHING...But i was so fucking tired, but i've done the clock test...It was normal...

      I got angry.

And i haven't slept well this night 'cuz i was angry with myself

Longest lucid dream was something over one hour.

for who can know those distant stars? like a life we have not lived, within the twinkle. like a universe we've not known, so far away.

makes you get a whole new understanding of people with mental and psychotic conditions where they see hallucinations and dream-like things that nobody else can in real life. Maybe for them their whole life makes about as much sense as a really messed up lucid.

Which is why I'm never telling her the real reason I ran into the door!

I've done that in a dream before, so I might have done that if I actually got out of the house...it's kind of a scary thought.

I can see this thread easily becoming a "What if" topic. haha

That's a very interesting point. It's scary not being able to tell reality from illusion.

      Failed RC

I used to count my fingers and try to poke my finger through my hand as an RC and got really good at doing so the instant I woke up to check for false awakenings. After a while it became so automatic that I would physically do my reality check before I was fully awake and totally lost touch with reality. I've since switched to holding my nose and breathing, which seems to be more effective for me anyway.

This whole topic shows you one very important thing you have to know before learning lucid dreaming:

Always make sure you are dreaming in more than just one way or you might end up killing yourself

I had a high school teacher who was moved to a bottom floor classroom after he had something like that happen to him at school one year. He tried to fly out a 3rd floor window. luckily he only managed to fall flat on his face on the roof of part of the school which doesn't have a 3rd floor.

I counted my fingers wrong once. It wasn't a dream, yet I've still got 6 somehow.

not exactly off-topic but there have been times where I'll dream something, then later on (be it a day or even a year) I'll do something that will be exactly the same! 100% dejavu, but dream-dejavu if that makes sense...

Ha ha! Hilarious story luigi! I've never run at a closed door or anything but yeah sometimes so much weird stuff will be happening around me that I have a hard time convincing myself I'm not dreaming and will have to do like about ten reality tests!

      Drunk?!

Yeah it starts to seem like a bad idea to jump out of windows in dreams. After all, what if you decide to do an RC when drunk

I have two favorite reality checks that I haven't used in years, but that always used to work for me. Do a backflip, or stick my head in water and try to breathe. Both of them were things I would only actually consider doing if I was dreaming. lol.

I can remember my fourth grade teacher telling my class about this one time when she was younger, and she and her sister jumped off the roof with umbrellas trying to be like Mary Poppins. She was just a little bit bruised but her sister shattered her leg.
      This night whispers my name...
