      sad times with a DILD

I had my second ever false awakening today. I woke up in my grandparents house. walking out of the room I sleep in while there I came to the living room and it suddenly occurred to me to have a reality check. I plugged my nose and could breath. Usually this sends a strong wave of vividness in to my dream, but it didnt this time. possibly because I know my grandparents house so well that it was already very vivid. I decided to test if I was dreaming by attempting to make my hand go through the couch next to me. To my surprise...my hand didnt go through. When I touched the couch, I was even expecting it to go through. But instead I felt very vividly the texture of the couch...I then realized that if I walk back through the house to where I had woke up it should be different..at least a little bit...but it wasnt.

Everything had stayed exactly the same. At that point, I fell out of control and the dream took me over again. Im gonna write the rest in my dream journal...but I want to know why this happened, so I put it here.

      hmm

seems like to me that you are another victim of the false awakening! haha.

but seriously. You shoulda been lucid after the first 'nose plug' RC.

because you didn't get a 'shock' from the nose plug RC that 'sent a wave of vividness through your dream' and from the fact that you did another RC after your first one passed seems like you weren't totally lucid.
if you were disappointed in the clarity you should have instantly started working on making your dream more clear and detailed; not another RC.

It seems like you approached the couch with a sense of awe and wonderment.
Why'd you try to put your hand through the couch anyway?
That kinda stuff just wakes me up. What you should have focused on was looking around the room, gathering details and meditating on your lucidity. Maybe do some cooler things than putting your hand through stuff

My current goal is working on my visualization skills and dream clarity post-lucidity. It's kinda tricky. Good luck to you.

Btw: TIP: Don't ever contemplate why something happened in a dream. The logic part of your brain is turned off while you sleep. That's why. If something doesn't go the way you wanted to, meditate on it and "try, try again"

thats the thing, I WAS lucid after the rcs, I just decided that a simple test would be to put my hand through the couch...then it didnt work lol.

I think I am confused on your question then. Are you wondering why this fluke 'hand didn't go through the couch' thing happened even though you 'think' you were 'totally convinced' that your hand was going to go through the couch? If that's the case...

*shrug* who knows. those kinda things are common. flying, telekinesis, teleporting, morphing, every dream power you can ever think of. Almost all of us have troubles doing these things at some point.

The thing I would be asking myself is 'What should I have -really- done the instant I became lucid?'
Unless of course, putting your hand through a couch just seems fantastic.
Perhaps it was your not knowing of how the couch was going to "feel" on the inside...
Have you achieved this feat before in a dream?

yeah, thats more to what I meant. because Ive never not been able to do something once I went lucid before. Although this is like my 5th one. before my feats were flying, fast running, and making wolverine type claws come out of my hands. I suppose what I really should have done was go outside and see if I could fly.
