...To get outside a smaller building in an LD last night. It was a good dream in terms of control, and I even thought of the building being a liquid that I would just displace and it'd move around me. But I couldn't - it was solid and I couldn't even stick a finger through it. Help?
When I first tried phasing through walls, I ran head first, eyes closed, and as fast as possible at a big wall. It didn't work the first time, but the second time I ended up running through several walls.

Many lucid dreamers find this hard at first attempts at walking through solid walls.
some have found they had success with walking though something solid by going backwards.
keep working on it, you may find your wall phasing more challenging - that's all.

Maybe the problem is I haven't practiced enough. This was my first attempt at phasing, period. ^^;
I find passing through walls kind of natural for me. Reminds me of passing through walls in games with poor collision detection.
Try not to acknowledge that walls standing in your way could stop you. In a dream if you move forward while forgetting there's supposed to be an obstacle ahead it won't stop you. It's the same if you don't forget it's there yet "forget" that it's an obstacle.
In the end it comes down to your expectations again.

I had some advice from a DC once, about this. She suggested that I imagine myself already on the other side of the wall. For example, you are in a building and want to go outside, imagine what lies beyond the wall.. blue skies, perhaps trees and birds, people walking, cars.. a street, etc... focus more on what is beyond the wall.. than the wall itself. Remember it is in your mind. The object is not solid.. and neither are you.
Honestly, though, this technique doesn't always work for me.. I'd guess it works two out of five times.. I'm still working on it, though.

Yeah! Last night I was faced with some walls. I take walls and doors and windows very "seriously" in my dreams. I tend to think they will protect me from harm as well as that they keep me inside unless theres an opening. I think I need to let go of this. In a dream I feel I should be able to walk through walls at will. I just have to expect whatever would be there if I went through a door to be there if I phase. I've had many instances of getting stuck though. I had some success with phasing through but it isn't totally at will. I usually find myself being chased and wanting to phase through a wall. In those cases its just a dream so what I really wanna do is face whatever my fear is anyways.
