Strange phenomenon with dreaming that I'm lucid

Out of the dreams I had last night, only one seemed really worthy of writing down...

Right off the bat I was "lucid," playing a shared lucid-dream game. I read a thread on this possibility a while ago on DV. Although i was "lucid," I wasn't actually lucid. I dreamed that I was lucid instead of being lucid. The dream itself was pretty epic and interesting, but it's not what this thread is about.

I recall from this dream, multiple times where I attempted to break from the storyline of the dream and carry out my dream goals, which were actually my dream goals in real life. The only difference was the way I went about it. I tried to conjure a dream character magically out of thin air when I would actually have used a phone, had I been lucid. Each time the storyline would pick up where it left off.

I think it's such a mindfuck that how when I wasn't actually lucid in this dream, and even though non-lucid dreams have a very random nature, I was trying to do my REAL lucid goals, when i would think I would have some abstract crazy goals.

Wait, Im confused.
So you dreamed about being lucid, but weren't lucid? Yeah, I talked about that a while back. Its weird, I've done that before. Very unfulfilling.

Ah, these dreams frustrate me, when I have them.

Of course, we should take these things positively, as it means your subconscious is comfortable/excited about lucid dreaming, and authentic ones are sure to follow. :3

I've had lucids before but this was the first "fake" lucid dream i've had.

looking back at my post i didn't really make it clear what my point was. My point was how I thought it was so weird how I wasn't actually lucid in the dream and proceeded to try and carry out my dream goals without being lucid.

When I had this experience, I tried to fly and barely could. My power was crap. It was frustrating.

It's not dreaming that your lucid because you are lucid. There is different degrees of lucidity. In low degrees of lucidity you know you're dreaming but you don't fully understand what a dream is. So you have lack of control. hope this helped.:D

From what I can see, he was lucid in the dream. Control wasn't and isn't a factor. However if he did dream about being lucid, it was only a normal, non-lucid dream.

It's not that difficult of a concept. Have you ever had a dream you were a doctor? Superman? Spiderman? A member of the opposite sex? Someone married, or someone with kids, or somehow more powerful than you are now? Have you ever had a dream where you had to get to class for an exam but couldn't remember the room? Or a dream where you were a person whose teeth kept falling out?

You had a dream that you were a person in a lucid dream.

The fact that your mind directly went from "Ok cool Lucidity" to "Have to accomplish dream goals" is a step in the right direction. You are realizing that when you become lucid, it's time to do the things you want to do in your lucids. You're just missing a couple of things- awareness, and stabilization. You're not providing enough attention- so you're not even catching on to blatant dream signs like the fact that you could be in a lucid dream. Your dream was literally screaming at you "YOU'RE IN A DREAM" but you didn't pick up on the fact. Just keep practicing a bit more awareness and RCing, and try to get into the habit of stabilizing.

I want to make this absolutely perfectly clear. There is NO such thing as a false lucid. The term does NOT exist. It was bred here on DV by someone who didn't think they were lucid but in all actuality.. they were. If you are lucid, you are lucid. While there are various levels of lucidity, none of them are so low to where they are considered "false".

I agree, you are lucid or you aren't. However you can dream about being lucid, which is false lucidity. I didn't think it was possible, but it happened.

It may have seemed like you were only dreaming about lucidity, but the fact of the matter is that your control/awareness/involvement in the dream was so low that it didn't feel like a lucid at all. Which is perfectly alright, not everybody experiences the same level control or awareness, especially not beginners (except for the lucky few who have no trouble whatsoever).

You said it yourself, you're lucid or you aren't. End of discussion.

Not in my case, I was watching from third person as if it was a movie. I wasn't really making any choices.

Whatever, your physical state doesn't matter. Just as long as you are aware that you are dreaming, and no matter how you got to that realization, you are lucid.

But I wasn't aware I was dreaming, even though I was watching myself realize I was in a dream (confusing). Many people on DV have talked about times when they completely missed obvious signs that they were dreaming. This is one of those times.

Okay, that clears things up a little.

So you saw yourself become lucid, and you were watching in third person?

The third-person you is the real you, if that makes sense. The "other you" was just a DC. So, unless the real you came to the realization that it was just a dream, then you were not lucid. It's very strange, but yes, dreaming about OTHER people becoming lucid is a big sign that some of us miss.

Please, do not call such dreams "false lucids". It's only confusing new comers into thinking that lucid dreaming is more difficult than it really is. It can be very discouraging if every other potential lucid turns out to be "false".

Yes actually, I was walking down the street and my teeth started all falling out. Now that I think back on it they were all over sized and way too big for my mouth.

So would last night's dream count as a lucid? I suppose it would, looking back on it... I was a fairy along with some other DC, and since we were fairies we were in a lucid dream. (of course, who hasn't heard of that rule? :P)I thought it was strange that the dream seemed so dreamlike, and not like a real lucid dream at all. I never exactly realized that I was dreaming. I just decided that I was in a dream.

I think I've had some of these. So you know your dreaming but you didn't think like "Hey I'm dreaming awesome, now I can do all this cool stuff"? I have had moments like these in nightmares. I know I'm dreaming and I think "Crap how do I get out of this dream?". So basically you just decide that your dreaming and that the dream is a bit strange, not to go all lucid and shit.

It isn't a Lucid if you didn't realize it was all a dream. You could've told every DC in that dream you were Lucid, but if it never "clicked" that you were dreaming, it was never a Lucid Dream.

Thank you Jeff. Being lucid is just knowing it is a dream. It doesn't mean you'll have control of anything or remember your goals or be able to stabilize the dream before waking or any of that stuff--all those things are separate skills that you need to practice once you are already lucid. Getting lucid is just the first (and hardest) step.
