Lucid Dream During Nap At College (question inside)

Hey All

I recently went back to school and am going for Electrical Linemen. 16 week course, 8 hours a day M-Thursday. ARGH!

Anyways, we had like a 2 hour break between classes and I was tired as hell so I decided to go lay down on the couch in the library.

I ended up laying down with about an hour left of my break.. I just closed my eyes and I started to see HI after a few minutes... The next thing I knew I was standing in my bedroom at home trying to figure out what was going on. I remember feeling this static feeling (like the hairs on your body stand up) and i became really light and felt my dream body floating.. That's when I realized I was dreaming... While this is all going on, I can still hear the voices and noises of the people in the Library...The LD wasn't much, I tried to call for my DG Anna (and there was a female voice that said "Yes?") and I asked for whomever it was to come here so I can see who it was.. Well I woke up before that!

My question is, was this a WILD? I know the basics of It, but the reason why I ask is because everybody says that it takes a while for a WILD to happen, when this happened in a matter of minutes???

Anyways, just hit me back.

Ahhh you sound exactly like me. I swear I've made this same thread/post a hundred times now (several years back). :)

I call them unintentional WILDs. Keeps it simple.

I wrote about these hundreds of times on the forum. If you want more info...I'll go look up some old threads for you.

Just a question, are you sure the "Yes?" you heard wasn't just a voice in the library?

well everyone was fairly quiet, pretty much no talking--i mean its a library, most of the people in there were just studying their books to themselves... it has happened to me before when I call out to her, just haven't had the time to see who is communicating back at me lol

Were you sleep deprived? If I fell into a lucid dream in a public place I'd be terrified to say anything weird in case I spoke in my sleep!

wasn't sleep deprived, just really freaking tired.. I have to get up at 5:30 in the morning everyday except for Wednesday, so I can leave the house by 6:30 drive to the school which is an hour a way, and be there by 8 when class starts! lol

I am just curious if it was a WILD or not? but despite that, i had a LD! HECK YES! haha

Its a type of WILD. Some call it a Nap-Induced LD. NILD? But like I said, I just call it unintentional WILD. Because, that's really more like what it is.

People call it Nap-WILD, though this was unintentional. So like a DILD, kinda. I would just call it a DILD.

I don't go to UNC, I attend school in Rocky Mount at Nash Community College.. I use to drive to Fayetteville all the time to pick up my older brother at BRAGG when he came back from Germany (where he is stationed); he's a Special Forces Green Beret :)

I saw that someone asked a question about this thread in the DVA so I would like to add some clarification on why I referred to this as an unintentional WILD and not a DILD.

Let me present three scenarios...

1. You are intending to have a WILD. You lay down to nap, intending to stay completely conscious during the various stages: SP, HI...and eventually find yourself in a lucid dream.

2. You lay down to take a nap, intending to get some sleep. You find yourself sorting out rotten flubberworms from fresh ones into a barrel and suddenly realize, wow this isn't right, I must be dreaming! You become lucid.

3. You lay down to take a nap, intending to get some sleep. However due to the fact that it is daytime, or that you had some caffeine in the morning, or that it is just a much lighter level of sleep (for whatever reason)...you snap back to consciousness when the vibrations and/or the HI sets in...and soon after find yourself inside a lucid dream.

Scenario 1 depicts your typical WILD. Scenario 2 is obviously a DILD. But what is Scenario 3?

That is a question I've had to ask myself many times because I have literally had hundreds of those sorts of experiences. I have taken naps with the intention of lucid dreaming, but without attempting to actually WILD. Meaning I would just let myself fall asleep, not attempting to stay conscious...and I would usually snap back to consciousness during either the vibrational state, during HI, immediately or soon after entering a lucid dream. This is why I refer to them as unintentional WILDs...because it is a much more passive induction technique than WILD itself. In fact, I suppose the induction method is more so "nap induced" because that is all you are doing to actually induce anything...taking a nap.

I used to experience these most often in my dorm room when I would nap in between classes usually between 12am-2pm. To me these lucid dreams are very different from DILDs. Even if I did not snap back to consciousness during the SP/HI stage and it took me a few seconds inside the dream to realize what just happened...I was never actually fooled into thinking I was in a dream. There is always a level of conscious awareness that is never really quite lost, unlike typical DILDs. Notice how the OP states that they were in HI and suddenly found themself standing somewhere wondering how they got there, and quickly realized they were dreaming. To me, that is distinguishable from DILD. There is no real acceptance of the dream world without questioning and conscious awareness. There is no actual absence of lucidity, they were questioning the dream from the beginning, and were consciously aware even before the dream started.

I would lay down to nap, suddenly find myself in the vibrational stage not knowing how I got there, and would ride it out into the lucid dream. Then the lucid dream would end, and I would find myself in SP or HI, and again...follow it into another lucid dream. I would chain these dreams back to back to back sometimes for up to 2 hours, when it eventually became to exhausting to continue. (I guess you kids call this a DEILD, I refer to them as marathon lucid naps, because it just keeps going and you continue to re-enter LDs, wait through SP, wait through HI, etc. etc.) I was at such a light level of sleep too that I could literally open my eyes, look around my dorm room, watch what my roommates were doing, and close them again...never even interrupting the lucid dream taking place inside my own head.

Anyways, hopefully that clears up somewhat why I did not call it a DILD. Someone else may very well think it is a DILD though. This is a very subjective thing so opinions will vary. :)

Naps are lucid gold mines, for me. I think it has a lot to do with the timing of the nap. If my nap happens to fall in a time where I am destined to get some REM, there is a good chance I will be lucid, no matter what. I love nap WILDs, because they come on so fast, and I am so hyper aware of the process. It is like I drop directly into the vivid dream without any drawn out, groggy, transitional stage.

Yes I have.. and its allllllllllllllllllllllllll for you hahahahahahahahaha

i was training LDing in school bus and succeeded though i had to cut it short because
i wasnt too far away from my stop. :(

I say they are very real. I almost always (if not always) have a vivid dream while napping, and I can remember them extremely easily.

Also, I've had 2 lucid dreams napping since joining Dream Views. Guess how much times I've napped since joining Dream Views? :) Just twice.
