The ocean

Ok, I love the ocean. Just saying for right now so you won't get annoyed in the future when I mention it every 5 seconds... :roll: I have been drawn to the ocean all my life. When I stare out at the sea or even pictures of it, it washes clear all thoughts, all confusion. Even when I am far from it, during those quiet, hours when I can feel my heartbeat- I can feel the currents flow within me. So I visit oceans in dreams. Like I have this ocean I go to with mermaids and sea serpents in it (with the aid of lucid dreaming) :lol: I walk into the waves, I wade till my feet cannot feel the ground, then I dive - deep down. I feel satisfaction-profound and as intense as anticipation. My body changes as I develop fins, and gills. Slowly as I explore the world beneath the waters - the other world that I love. I change into dolphins and orcas (note the name) in dreams a lot. Anyone else change to animals or love the ocean like me? :movingmrgreen:

Your post both frightens and intrigues me. At first I thought it was a FRIEND (that I told I was, in actuality, a mermaid) playing a joke on me but now I'm not so sure. This was taken from a previous post of mine

Well I was joking around with someone on the forum that I was a mermaid so I thought they might have registered a fake user name and post this to mess with me. Because as you can see, in one of my previous posts I pretty much say the same exact thing as you about the sea. ;) Make sense now?

I must say, there is a special peacefulness about the ocean. I guess it may be due to the fact that there are so few humans on the ocean as compared to the land. I have been fortunate enough to go swimming in the Persian Gulf and consequently I have actually remembered a few dreams where I was just floating in the ocean. Just floating there with this feeling of absolute happiness and acceptance of the world. That's a pretty amazing effect that a crapload of water can have on a person.

Hey that's awesome. I went to visit family back in Palestine...err...I mean...Israel :roll: Anyway...I swam in Lake Tiberius, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Dead Sea (floating in there was cool as hell). I've also been in the Pacific in Cali, and several times in the Caribbean (Jamaica, Bahamas, Mexico). I must say, the Caribbean Sea is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen or swam in. I want to move somewhere in the Caribbean and be a beach bum hehe. It's so amazing the things you see/experience underwater while exploring those reefs. I really want to go to Australia too eventually...

Funny Story:
Actually while I was on a little snorkeling excursion in Playa Del Carmen I almost got left behind! There were 4 boats and about 30 people all out there snorkeling...I was there with my bf at the time and 2 other friends and I became so enthralled with this underwater cave where these incredible looking fish kept poking in and out of...I floated above it forever and when I finally looked up I realized that everyone around me was gone! I freaked out...they were already on the boats and everyone had to wait like 10 minutes for me to swim back to the boat lol...it was quite embarassing. They surely would have left me if my ex hadn't noticed I wasn't on it and said something. Though, I probably wouldn't have minded being left there for a few more hours or so. :D

I have a deep connection with the ocean. I always seem to live right beside the ocean. At the moment i can see it from my bedroom window. I literally live across the road.

I constantly seem to dream of water in some form. Lots about the ocean too. My best ocean dream off the top of my head was riding the top of a tidal wave while doing a pirouette. It was amazing.

I can not seem to get my head around breathing underwater tho and it really annoys me as i know i would love it and it would be a whole new world for me to explore. I just keep panicking and swimming to the surface or drowning and waking up. All one can do is keep trying I guess.

yeah, floating in the dead sea rocks!! its crazy, but if you have a cut on your finger or something all that salt fuckin stings man, ouch!! Israel was one of the best trips I've ever been on. I've always just wanted to win the lottery and buy a huge houseboat on the ocean and just fish all day :)

Playa Del Carmen is quite nice. I often vacation in Cozumel across the way. I havn't been back there for a number of years. I know the last few times I went it really started to get built up on the island. I usually stay at Plaza las Glorias. It has some awsome snorkling right out the back of the hotel. Feed the fish in the day and swim, and watch the baracuda at night and not swim.

I've been to playa del carmen on a few occasions, very nice snorkeling, the ocean rocks!! One time I was snorkeling off the coast of key west and I dove under to take an underwater picture of this one cool looking fish, and as I pulled the camera away I saw this shark swimming right at me, as soon as it saw me look at it, it veered away and swam about 10ft in front of me and I snapped a couple quick pictures and then it was gone, fuckin freaked me out man... Upon looking at the pictures it was probably a reef shark or nurse shark, which aren't that dangerous, but still, it was a shark! yeah i think i hate the baracudas more than the sharks, cause they just float their in the water, not moving and looking all scary and shit, just waiting to bite your toes off when you turn around.

i haven't had the chance yet to visit outside of the US so the only ocean i've seen has been the east coast in delaware, ocean city, north carolina...but defintly the most moving visual experience with nature i've ever had was at the beach during winter. There had just been this big snow storm and the beach was completely covered in either white snow or ice, the storm had passed and it was extremely windy, blowing clouds by very fast near the horizon. There was a huge full moon and a bunch of stars (at least as many as you expect to see with all the light pollution of ocean city). It was absolutely beautiful. The light from the moon was reflecting over the water, and continued along the beach from all the snow and ice. I was almost totally convinced the whole thing was a dream and was actually doing reality checks becuase i was so blown away. I tried to take pictures with my friends digital camera but it wasnt working, i ran to a gas station and got a disposable one but it didnt have a flash, so i just decided to sit outside on the snow and ice listening to some radiohead/sigur ros for like an hour and try to make a mental image id never forget, it was probably like 10 degrees, plus the windchill from the ocean...i dont even wanna think about how cold it felt out there right now. For the next few days whenever i tried to WILD i would begin to see the ocean and feel the wind, but i never could make it completely into the dream...now i cant dream about it anymore so i have to go back one day and actually get some pictures.

It was extra crazy because me and my friends had just finished watching eternal sunshine of the spotless mind...so i was already in a kind of freaked out state..but then we opened the blinds on the window of our apartment and saw all the snow on the beach too which looked just like the scenes in the movie...ahhhhhh!!!

Hey lucidnina - yeah it is pretty cool to see the ocean or swim when ever I want, its something i do not take for granted. If you do make it to Australia I’m sure you will love it esp up around Cairns, the ocean is so warm and the coral reefs are amazing. NZ is real close too I think you would probably like it here as well.

Ok...now all this talk is making me REALLY REALLY nostalgic. I think I might have to plan a trip to the Caribbean soon or something :( I agree with you about the baracudas though, man when I was snorkeling in Cancun there was this spot they took us to where the baracudas like to hang out...ew they are so ugly and freakish the way they just float there like zombies with huge razor teeth. I would love to swim with sharks, I think that would be awesome. And I'm one of those stupid people who thinks that I have SUCH a great connection with nature that they would let me pet them and not try to bite me haha. Swimming with dolphins is really amazing though too...some of the coolest creatures on earth.

I had a similar experience when I was in Aruba (Baby Beach - for those who are familiar with it). I was swiming underwater and I noticed something floating halfway between the waterline and seafloor. I slowly came towards it, and slowly as it came into focus the first thing I noticed was that it was a fish. "cool" I thought. As I got closer, I saw huge teeth "umm... what the-". I was a few feet away from it, but the thing never moved. I figured, with those teeth, if HE isn't gonna move - I will!

I later saw a chart that was hanging with all different kinds of fish from the area. I saw a picture of what I saw and it was a baracuda. :shock:

I live in Mississippi, which borders the Gulf of Mexico. My city, Jackson, is about a three hour drive from Biloxi, a coastal city. Biloxi is very close to Gulf Shores, Alabama and the Florida panhandle, where Pensacola, Destin, and Panama City are. I go to that area very often. I have been obsessed with the ocean ever since my parents started taking me to Pensacola in my very early childhood. As a result, the ocean has been a common dreamscape for me for a very long time. One of my most common dreamscapes is a beach that is simultaneously Destin, Pensacola, and Biloxi Beaches. Sometimes it is others too. It is as if Destin's and Pensacola's beaches are the same beach, but they are in Biloxi. I am always there with my parents, and sometimes other family members and friends are there. Bizarre stuff happens every time I am there. There are often small islands all over my view of the water. The water at Biloxi Beach is very dark and still, but the water at the Florida panhandle is beautiful. I might be dreaming partly about how cool it would be if the beautiful beaches of Florida's panhandle could be in Mississippi, although it's only about an hour and a half's drive from Biloxi to Pensacola Beach.

Just before I woke up today, as a matter of fact, I dreamed that I was on that beach and the beach was right by a forest that is a common dreamscape of mine. I was looking for a woman who was the girl of my dreams when I was a teenager. I don't see her that way now when I am awake, but I do when I dream. There were alligators on the beach, and one of them chased me. I got away from it and woke up. Last summer, I wrote on this site about a lucid dream I had on that beach. I spent what seemed to be a whole afternoon on pills on the beach. I was so messed up in the dream that it didn't seem too different from being messed up and awake. It was cool to know that I was dreaming, but I was so wacked out that the awareness didn't change much. I was just in an extreme stupor on a beach. I remember swimming, sitting on the beach, walking on the beach, and all kinds of stuff. It is the one lucid dream I have had so far that makes me think I might have experienced a major time perception alteration. It was as if I had experienced hours of stuff in a matter of minutes.

Near the common beach in my dreams is a common city landscape. Last summer, I actually went to one of the islands in the water and went to the other side of the island and saw the water of the Atlantic Ocean. I think the island might have been some dream conceptualization of Florida.

I need to train myself to recognize this dreamscape as what it is and use it to induce lucidity every time. For some reason, every time I go to that beach except the day on pills, I think I am awake. When I learn to recognize it for what it is, I will be having a lot more lucid dreams.
