It's a recurring DC which gives you advice and protects you. It's not created by you, although it may be summoned, and they help you without being commanded or consciously controlled.
It's almost like talking to your conscious.
Though technically, everything in your dreams is created by you.
Also, I'm pretty sure that if you've never heard the term "dream guide", you aren't going to have a random dream character come up to you and say "Hi! I'm your dream guide!":|
If you can fly, throw skyscraper like darts, summon anyone or anything you can imagine, and change gender, I don't see any reason why you couldn't create character to be your dream guide.
But you would need to have it reoccur in most of your dreams. And you would need to search for it. Well, most of the times.
They can be quite fun, actually. And sometimes they say some pretty cool stuff and can teach you LD skills and give you powers. In a world where everyone is an idiot, having a rational and sensible person by your side that can teach you and protect you is quite an amazing experience. Feels like shared dreaming, as dream guides tend to be logical. Maybe even more so than you. :P
When I was young I had a recurring DG but as I've gotten older I don't see that character any more. One of my future goals will be to have a nice long talk with him on the roof like we used to.
Any person, place, or thing could potentially be converted into our dream guide/dream guru.
Well, no one's really sure where they come from. The most common explantion is that they are a menifestation of or link to your subconcious, or they are a spirit guide manifesting in a dream. What can be said for sure is they are a recurring DC that gives you help and advice, on matters dream-related and otherwise. I've heard it said about them that they "know more about you than you do".
If you need to search for it, then that means you need to already know what a dream guide is, which is what I was saying.
They come from you. Everything in your dreams come from you and your expectations. If you expect a dream guide, you'll get one. If you want a dream guide, you can make one. Remember, a dream guide is still a dream character, and, as a part of your dream, can be manipulated as you see fit. They are not a real person, and the only rules that apply to your dreams are the ones you create.
Now I'm unsure if I really found mine. I always though my DC was Freddy Krueger. Since I was a kid, whenever I had a nightmare, Freddy appeared and finished with my issue and saved me. In my lucid nightmares, I remember summoning Freddy if I could not deal with my fear. He would come and protect me. However, on lucid and non lucid non nightmares I've never seen him. Maybe I did not need his advice or something, I'm unsure, what I know for sure is that he always protects me.
I watched the Nightmare on Elm Street series when I was five (all 6 movies)... my dad did watch it so I did... yeah... I have a weird that I know  (I wonder if thanks to that I'm a natural lucid dreamer... as they abuse lucidity, false awakening and dream control in those movies  Could my subconscious learn somehow from the movies?)
@ PercyLucid : Did you see the video on youtube, "Wet Nightmares"?
@Yarbskoo : Well, I knew what a dream guide was, but I didn't need to search for her, rather, she came to me and all that. :cheeky: Wonder if it's normal?
O_O thats exactly what I thought! We'll call it Supernova paradox!
My DG started coming to me before I knew they had a "term." She hasn't come around in a really long time, so, like waving, I want to summon her and have a nice long chat as well :) Usually, when I was younger, she gave me lessons. I was fully lucid, but she had all the control. And she would take me around and show me things. I don't know what she looks like, I just know her name is Margaret.
Unfortunately, due to the levels of violence in my dreams my dream guides never seem to last that long. But they are useful. They kind of look out for you, show you how to do stuff, things like that. I've never sought out a dream guide, they always come to me, and they always have a different personality. The strange thing for me is that dreams are based on our experiences in waking life - therefore a recurring DC should look familiar in some way to someone in waking life or at least an amalgamation. Mine never does.
At the same time though, our dreams, as well as our worldview, are influenced not only by our environment, but how we perceive it. So you could say that your dreams are created by your perception of reality. If you want to get real picky about it. :D
@Serenity
It could be possible that a "dream guide" is a name given to a dream character that is not so much based on a real person, but is all of our teachers and parents all rolled into one. Also, it appears that dream guides, as well as everything else in our dreams, differ from person to person. lucidmax15895 says a dream guide must be searched for, you said she came to you. PercyLucid said his dream guide might have been Freddy Krueger, but MisterHyde doesn't recognize his. I've never had any such character in my dreams, but MisterHyde's had a lot of different ones.
^_^
Agreed. I assume that every DC is a lucid DC. So anyone/anything can answer questions about my dreams. So far, it has not been anything like the dog or a clock radio.
When I have encountered dream guides, or what I think of as lucid DC's, they rarely offer any memorable advise. Only vague remarks like "If you really believe this a dream, our relationship will end."
I usually become so fascinated with flying and exploring I rarely make time to talk with DC's at length... One of my new lucid goals is to seriously question a DC about dreaming.
lmao! This could lead to a larger discussion. Because most DCs are dumb, but once in a great while, there is one that (at least) appears to be knowledgeable.Quote:
Yeah, I've never had a lucid discussion of any kind with my DCs. Mostly because they're even dumber than I am during non-lucids.
Not necessarily. There are DC that are very smart, other than your dream guide. You just have to pick the right person.
You shouldn't really have to "pick" anyone. Remember DCs are not real people. They have the same basic properties as any other dream entity. Plants, animals, inanimate objects, and even yourself, can all be modified as you see fit, provided you're lucid. You could create an entire room full of DC's fit to be your dream guide.
Maybe one of my goals should be to create a crowd of people who are self-aware, and therefore bow to me as their god.:bowdown::evil:
Wow, I have issues.
Thats correct, though I find most of my DCs stupid, even if I try to rationalize with them.
Still, dream guides are a real mystery. The re-occur in many dreams, retain certain characteristics, have a mind of themselves, and can be smarter than you. The real phenomenon and it's cause is still unclear. I mean, what the hell is our subconscious trying to do? Or maybe they are that way because we expect them to be like that. Come to think of, what would happen if you tried to turn your DG into a stupid DC? Probably you would have control over them. What if you could erase them, and create a new DG? What happens to the smart subconscious then? Would that mean, with a little training, you could perhaps use the full potential of your brain, with the DG acting as a link?
Dreams are one heck of mysterious thing.
I know, isn't it awesome?:D
I think part of the reason my DC's are so dumb is that I tend to think of other people as less intelligent than myself. Particularly people on imageboards. I think it started in high school. Go figure. :P It's a subconscious thing, and it annoys me as much as it does other people, and if I ever start over-explaining something, I apologize in advance.
Actually, that could be the reason I don't have a DG. Next time I'm lucid, I'm going to make one and see what happens. Now what should I make them look like?
:uhm:
Such a benevolent entity. O_OQuote:
she's gonna kill me first and take over my body. O_O
Actually, that motivation would explain one of my Dream Stalkers...
I'm new to lucid dreaming(I started one month ago) and I've already had a few lucids. In my second lucid dream (the first one faded although I wasn't really excited maybe shocked) at the end of the dream I wanted to find mu friends to tell them we are in a dream (I knew they were not real I was just curios about their answers). So I said this out loud and then there's this dream character behind me sitting on a chair and told me ''I don't think that's such a good idea'' and I ask''Why?Because I might wake up?''And he confirmed. After that I kind of start wondering and then the dream starts fading.
The weird thing about this is that during the day I realized that in one of my hypnagogic hallucinations earlier that night there was just fog king of like there were clouds everywhere and then I saw the face of this guy who was in a position like he was lying in bed and then turns around and just stares at me.
Also these were different dreams. So now I'd really like to have a lucid with him and ask him all sort of questions :D
