    1. I lie on my back and get as comfortable as possible. Relax you muscles. I usually go head to toe: scalp, forehead, ears, cheeks, chest, back, abdomen, etc. Relaxing gets easier with practice. In the beginning, I could spend almost 20 minutes just relaxing. Now I'm usually so relaxed that it is difficult to move and my body is numb after about 5 minutes. Once my body is relaxed I begin letting my thoughts flow through my head. The key here is to not hold on to any thoughts. A good way to let your thoughts flow without focusing on them is by realizing that your thoughts come to you without any effort, so you should be able to let them pass by with no effort. Do not ignore your thoughts. Instead be aware of how aware you are. If you let your thoughts flow in and out of your mind this way, your mind eventually will become quiet. When I become aware of this, I usually will practice my visualization technique.
