    The Family Gathering

by TheElusiveHobo on 06-20-2012 at 06:16 AM
My extended family was together at my grandparents' house, which in waking life was sold shortly after their passing nearly ten years ago. The atmosphere was very casual, and felt as though it was Christmas. My grandparents were there, and their being present is a common dream sign, so as I stood in their kitchen, I became lucid.

I can't remember very much about this dream, I think because my recall wasn't very good that night and my ad-hoc self-prompt to remember it only covered the dream very generally, which was much longer than my last lucid. I recall thinking that it had been ten minutes. I also don't think the dream was very vivid to begin with. It seemed to vague in retrospect that I questioned whether I had been truly lucid.

After becoming lucid, all that I remember of the dream was communing with my imagined family and at one point gathering in close in conversation, all facing in one general direction as if posing for a picture that was not being taken. That is literally all the detail I can recall, other than the layout of the house, which I know by heart. I couldn't even tell you who else was there or what they said to me, only that they were family.

I tried to recall some kind of information from the waking world after basking in the atmosphere for a while, thinking, "Now this is really nice." and the connection I made with the waking world destabilized the dream. All I can remember recalling from the waking world involves an isolated vision of a piece of paper with a coloured in cartoon drawing of a piece of bacon.

I really don't know what to make of this one, to be honest.

    My First Lucid Dream

by TheElusiveHobo on 06-16-2012 at 11:22 PM
Last night, I had my first lucid dream as an adult. I was on a hiking trail in one of the prairies of my home province, crossing a newish, unpainted wooden bridge across a small stream, alone. Other than the bridge and the stream behind me, the only feature of the landscape was a field of the tall, dry grass common in Alberta, stretching as far in front of me as I could see. It was a very sunny day with the very pale blue sky we have around here, though I can't recall whether there were any clouds. I was in a generally good mood, because of some kind of interaction with a DC earlier in the dream that I can't remember, but I was a bit embarrassed because I was out walking in my socks. Not having shoes is one of my dream signs, and a part of me recognized this. I was next to lucid at this point. I decided to experiment, and attempted to generate shoes onto my feet. I succeeded, though the shoes only remained for a few seconds. The transition is a little fuzzy. I can recall doing a fingerpalm RC last night, and it was either at this point, or in another dream. In any case, I realized fully that I was dreaming, and thought to myself, "Isn't something supposed to happen now? Oh! That's right! I become lucid!" At this point I can remember feeling a rush of awareness of my environment. Everything seemed far more vivid, and I decided to test my newfound lucidity. I picked up and flew. I was every close to the ground for a second or so, and then began to fly directly upward beyond my control, though my body was still parallel to the ground. I realized that the dream was destabilizing and I decided to let it, simply wanting to get this first experience under my belt. I made I mental note to remember what had happened, and the dream ended.

The Gym and the Low-Budget Movie

by TheElusiveHobo on 06-08-2012 at 02:51 AM
I was accompanying my brother to the gym, and trying to figure out whether he wanted to lose fat or build muscle (even though he's skinny as a rail). The gym was at my local mall and was very large and mostly black and grey with a intense atmosphere, tinged with black rubber on the walls and had what seemed to be a hot mist up near the very high ceiling. My brother was in a very bad mood about his probable success with his goal here (being doubtful about his own ability to do something is not like him, though being confrontational and rude is) and after he bought a bucket of protein powder, he tromps off to some kind of personal locker room and takes a shower. The whole area fogs up from the hot water, and I try to cheer him up, to no avail. I give up and hopes he doesn't hear me using his smaller restroom right next to the door to the larger gym. He doesn't seem to, and emerges in a much better mood.

The next thing I know, seemingly because my brother wanted to do it after his shower, we're making some kind of sci-fi / action /disaster movie on an extremely low budget, filmed with plastic dolls and playsets, supplemented with cardboard props made by my brother. There's one shot in particular I remember of some kind of US government war room, with me doing the voice of the "general" doll, which isn't moving. Nothing in the shot is moving except for the viewscreen shield in the background, made of corrugated cardboard and half the size of playing card, sliding up to reveal the big TV. The alien villain is just some Venetian window blinds on the ground with incandescent light bulbs taped to it, with someone off-screen shaking it when in talks. Then the truck that the alien is attached to for some reason drives off, swerving left and right, smashing our villain into fenceposts, and shattering the light bulbs everywhere. the camera follows this as it happens and I, my brother and the entire movie crew laugh hysterically.

    The DVD Ad

by TheElusiveHobo on 06-04-2012 at 09:58 PM
    May 30th, 2012

I can only recall a few seconds of this one. I'm in the entrance to my local Best Buy, with a casual friend whose identity I can't remember (seems similar to a friend from university), and I'm looking at an ad that seems to shift between a poster on the wall and a flyer in my hand. The ad for this one product takes up my entire field of vision for my entire memory of the dream. It's for a DVD of the first 8 episodes of 'Legend of Korra', an animated show I've been enjoying in my waking life. The ink of the image of the cover is out of alignment, and I think to myself, "Is this a bootleg?" It features the protagonist, Korra, waterbending stylishly on a blue background, offset by subtle red borders in the surrounding text. The rest of the ad is in the Best Buy colors of bright yellow, with a mellow, deep blue mixed in. I'm always looking up at the image, and it seems to be perpendicular to the ground, even when I seem to be holding it. I'm standing in the right side of a sharply diagonal entrance to the store. It's the middle of the day, and I'm there with some kind of purpose. I'm on my way out, friend in tow, either having accomplished my task with minimal effort, or having failed to no real consequence.
