Absolutely disturbing non-lucid nightmare

I had the worst nightmare last night. It had people in it who are extremely close to me...the closest. It wasnt lucid. The events running up to the disturbing part are vague now but I know that while this THING was happening I was observing it and then all of a sudden I was in control and said stop what are you doing and this person stopped what they were doing. Sorry I am vague but I still cant wrap my head around the dream so one step at a time before I can be really specific. I do know deep down that this isnt a reflection totally on me and isnt something that would be interpreted literally but the fact that I am capable of dreaming this up is traumatizing. I am currently in treatment for trauma...bad trauma although not like this so it makes sense that I would dream terrible stuff but all the same this is the worst I have ever felt after a dream because as I said it had people in it who are close to me.

Luckily LDs are good at combating nightmares, so that's at least one reason to learn it.

I would suggest to you to start taking some time out each day to practice relaxation and breathing techniques and/or some meditation time. Think about things that fill you with an overwhelming joy, see them, feel them, smell and hear them... picture yourself anywhere that makes you feel at ease, and if you can't think of such a place than daydream one up that has things in it that you enjoy and are pleasing for you to see.

Just remember to replace negative with positive... recovery from anything traumatic is never easy, but is possible with patience and time.

Remember that it's just a dream. Take some breaths, and think that tonight, you're gonna have a good dream. It will not harm you. Work on getting lucid, and just forget about it.

I guess I'm lucky I don't get nightmares often.
