Nightmare inducing for content in my game.

I'm an experienced lucid dreamer, and have been for about 2.5 years, so I don't need to know too much.

But anyways, I'm wondering if anyone knows any ways to induce non-lucid nightmares. I'm currently working on a game (More info here: http://www.dreamviews.com/entertainm...velopment.html) and I need nightmare inspired ideas to add into it, but I'm not getting enough surreal nightmares to get any decent ideas.

For example, I had a nightmare about a Japanese ghost woman with a twisted neck. I added her as a supporting role in my game.

Sounds like a cool game. Perhaps watching scary movies will give you some ideas. Maybe you can add a invisible or black shadow character that paralyses the gamer for a decent amount of time or a monster that appears when you open the wrong door or a envelope. Like put fun/scary surprises you wouldn't expect

Maybe watching a huge load of horror movies? I am horror movie-proof and you might be... if so, then no clue hehe.

Btw, I am a big Zelda fan :)

This might be a little too much of a commitment for you, but when I need brainstorming for horror ideas I will put myself into a mindset where I'm constantly thinking about horror things and it'll rub off into dreams and everything else.

Only thing is that it could get pretty dark being like that for a while.

That's exactly what I need, I'll definitely try doing this.

One thing I like to do is go and sit out in the forest at night. I can't see anything but a little bit of the night sky above, and the only noise is the ambiance. It's an amazing atmosphere to be in, but I guess my positive feelings towards it doesn't make it very scary, therefore ruining the idea of me wanting nightmares.

Also I'm not really a fan of horror movies, I don't enjoy watching any movie really. Finally, my game doesn't really rely much on jump scares, 90% fridge horror and atmosphere :)

Tell me how it goes, I never heard of anyone else trying it other then me, most people don;t like to have those kinds of thoughts though.

That comic with the automated scrolling and animation gave you nightmares; didn't it? When her head turns you can actually hear her neck turn and crack. I have seen it myself and it was pretty disturbing. You think its a normal comic and BAM live animation unexpectedly comes up. I thought it was worse then a pop up. Quiet frankly I call those kind of things "cheap shot scares". Kind of like when you are talking to someone and they randomly punch you.

This seems really interesting.
