Thread: What If We're Somebody's Science Experiment?

Ha, I've thought about this before as well. It's totally possible that we are just an experiment. And that wouldn't bother me if it was true.

This idea is called the Brain In A Vat. It's perfectly possible, of course.

An even more mind-blowing idea for you: what would you do if you were immortal? Wouldn't you get bored, eventually? Wouldn't you get the most out of life if you inflicted amnesia on yourself and repeatedly underwent the experience of growth, of learning, of discovery, and of new experiences?

Yes, amnesia would probably be the only way that I or anyone else would not get bored of life.

It's scary though, well for me anyways. The thought that I might become another person - that I won't be myself the next time around. Or maybe I will be. It's also kind of saddening that I might not remember all that happened here. We live to experience, so for that to be lost... well what's the point then?

But then, maybe there isn't another life beyond death. Maybe it's just nothing. And that's kind of scary too, because I can't comprehend how we can just not feel or be.

Or, maybe, I will just wake up in someone else's test tube. Maybe it'll be the same, maybe different. Who the hell knows. I think I'm rambling lmao.

I considered adding the postscript; wouldn't you give yourself a few years after each life to reflect on the experiences you had in the past one, and remember all of the ones before it? Seems natural you'd want to revert to your true state every once in a while.

That would make sense. Though obviously we wouldn't know, 'cause we've forgotten all of it.

That's kind of funny though. We might be just that powerful, but have no idea about it.

It makes me think though, what would have influenced me to be human? Was it a choice? Or did someone else pick for me? Was it random? Was there a reason why? If I chose it why would I have picked that?

What if aliens designed us to prepare the earth for them. We evolve, and build huge cities, and lots of plastic, and then they kill us all off without damaging any of the structures, and move in. Happy ever after.

No, because amnesia doesn't just erase all your past memories like the cartoons would tell you, amnesia just prevents you from getting new memories, for the most part. That's the easiest way to put it.

On the topic of the thread, you're all my experiment. Deal with it.
