Sidenote: 'Unique' means that there is only one of it in existence, not simply that it's rare, which is the definition the word is often misapplied as.

Well there are many attributes about me that few people have. I have a scar, my eyes are blue, I don't wear makeup, I hate the sound of paper rubbing against carpet, I hate shopping, ... I could go on and on listing them.

I guess there are a few main ones that I feel distinguish me from others significantly, that kind of shape my perception of myself I suppose. The main one is that I'm thoughtful and often depressed. I think a lot about topics that are philosophical or just strange. My thoughts tend to veer off in odd directions and then fixate on something that most people probably wouldn't care about for a long time. It would surprise me to find out that most people's trains of thought tend to go in the same directions. I also think I have extremely good critical thinking skills. It often won't be obvious, since I lack a lot of factual knowledge and can't comprehend information as quickly as most people, but once I do, I'm able to solve problems much better than most people. A personality trait that distinguishes me is that I don't act like the majority of females do. It's hard to explain what I mean, there's just a quality about most females that I think I lack, and it's completely in the personality, not the appearance. About my life, I guess there are two main things that are odd about me. One is that I'm an atheist and have been in an online relationship with a Catholic for 8 years (met many times, plan to get married). The other is that I spent 5 months at an attitudinal healing center in Costa Rica. Anyone who's been aware of my presence on this forum has probably heard both of those already. I need to stop mentioning them so much. Oh, and I've been skydiving. That one's so recent I keep forgetting about it.

Ultimately, the main thing that I feel distinguishes me is closer to the first thing I mentioned. It's my way of thinking, the patterns of my mind, its way of coming to conclusions and of making decisions. That, I think, is how everyone really distinguishes themselves as unique.

You know what grinds my gears?

People that think they're better than other people

      In other words... everyone.

Who does not think they're special in some way? Who does not think their information is more valuable than their peers' information? Who does not act like their shit is the one flavor of shit on earth that does not smell like foulness?

It's practically a natural cognitive manifestation, this idea that this separate person which is the Us we think is Us deserves... anything.

If you have a sense of caring for others, you will manifest a kind of inner strength in spite of your own difficulties and problems. With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm.Dalai Lama

It makes sense for everyone to think that their way of doing things is generally better than the average person's. If someone were to think that someone else was better at thinking, acting, etc. they would just begin to emulate the other person and again consider themselves superior.

I think I would suicide if I didn't think I was better than most people.
Although, I was just wondering after reading this before.... I wonder what it would be like if everyone didn't feel this way.
I think the world would be a lot better. You gotta wonder why we developed the ego in the first place.
One could argue it is good because you want to survive. But it also stops you from co-operating above a superficial level in a limited way.

I wish "moot" were a more common word. It's rather fun to say. It would make a rather fine name.

"The boy? Why, that's my son, Moot. No, no, don't trouble yourself. Pretend he's not even here."

My appreciation of "moot" makes me special.

At this rate, we'll need a second short bus. Or a full sized one, but then how would everyone know we're special?

When you get down to it, ever single aspect of a human being is completely unique in size and shape. Hair color, eyes color, nothing runs exactly the same. Even identical twins bear differences on an untraceable level. But technology is capable is reading your electromagnetic signature and identifying you with GPS.

Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.

Your electromagnetic field is a unique and readable imprint. The technology was originally intended for more accurate heart measurements but is now being used to ID people and track them via GPS.

They can measure your heartbeat from space?

I didn't know it was possible to identify individuals via their electromagnetic field; I didn't know they were that distinguishable. Sounds interesting, please link to the technology.

I heard about this through a share-holder in the company developing it. I can't even remember the name of the company but I'll ask him next time I talk to him. If you use google you may find something specific to what I'm talking about but most of the results I'm finding are related to tracking people using their brainwaves, which are also unique. They say it's to replace passwords but once they get your imprint they can triangulate your location the same way as a radio signal.

Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.

Einstein's brain was differently structured from most humans. Uniqueness exists, it's just rare because it's unique.

Plus self-promotion is so common in humans that thinking self is unique just helps blend that person into the rest of the crowd. Perhaps the truly unique ones are the ones who don't care about uniqueness and sees things for how they are.
