If there is life after death, I can tell you now, it isn't going that stupid heaven/hell thing. That is just too....hmm......"Fairytaleish". I mean, where are the unicorns? I don't think the Bible was supposed to be taken literally. As far as I'm concerned, the Bible is just about as true as the book of "Asop's Fables". It has a few good lessons, but I would never take it as the honest, 100% truth. Anyway, I think that as far as "God", I am God. Only I can rule my life, and only I can change it. When I do something bad, I ask forgiveness of myself, and I punish myself for those bad things. You and I, and everyone else is God.....Look around you. That is God. That connection bettween everything, people, and life itself. That is what this "God" figure is.
The form of life after death I believe in, is Reincarnation. The reason I believe in this is, I have snipets of (could you call them memories?) things that haven't happened to "me"....But that have happened to others, in other times and places I could never have been. I know it's crazy, but that's what I interpret these things as. If I found that it was something else, I probably wouldn't believe in Reincarnation, but as it is, It the most reasonable explaination.
But as long as we respect ourselves, and the beliefs of everyone else, who cares who believes in what? It isn't going to change the fact that none of us are immortal. We will all die. Who knows what happens next? Nobody. So, lets just take it from there....

I have nothing against religious people, and i do respect their believes and such, but sometimes it can go to far.

By that i mean when people are killing 'cause of their religion.
Or a more harmless thing as when they lay their lives in the hands of god and trust him/her/whatever to guide and help them. If there is a god im sure that him/her/whatever doesn't bother so much about our every day lives here on earth. But that's just my opinion.

And if there is an after life, maybe paradise, I'm sure that all of us would like to go. But why waste your whole life just sitting around and looking forward to glorious times after you've died. I'm not saying that everyone is like this, but my mother is and it's kinda scary.
      hey

Actually when you think about it, reincarnation doesn't make much sense either. Our population has grown by a factor of about 5,000 in the last 10,000 years and by a factor of 5 or 6 in just the last 50 years.

So, if reinicarnation is true, only 1 in every many thousand souls is on its second round through life, and many less than that have experienced more than one previous life. The vast majority (nearly 100%) of us would be first round humans.

The alternative to this scenario is that there are a certain number of "original souls" and they "break up" into pieces of souls as our population grows. In this case, you and many, many other people would have had the same past like (you were both parts of a "parent soul" which is a descendant of an "original soul").

Make sense? Ethan Hawke explains it much better in Before Sunrise and Waking Life.

Reincarnation, like all other concepts of afterlife is a clear example of humanity denying its biggest fear.

You're absolutely right ronso. I was talking about Trinity Broadcasting Network before which is a Christian TV station. From what I've seen from it, people turn to God to make their lives more comfortable. To ease their financial burdons or ease their suffering. And gold-clad preachers will attest that through a relationship with God (which often times seems to involve conversation), He has made them prosperous.

I'm fully aware that the concept of Reincarnation is pretty crazy, and actually I'm still in the process of assesing myself in my beliefs. Perhaps I should read the book, Before Sunrise and Waking Life. Still, I think it makes a lot more sense to me than the "Almighty, omnipotent being who sends you straight to the fiery depths of hell" for having an individualistic style of life. I am aware that I'll never know the answers...It is pretty silly of me to believe in reincarnation, but as of now, it just seems to make the most sense to me.I'll read the book you've mentioned and see if what you've explained makes more sense to me.

Personally I am Jewish and I believe that there is a higher being. I'm one to go towards intelligent design ideas.I just believe we all die and go our separate paths into different existences.

I do not believe in a hell. I don't think that my God would do that to his beloved child

      Person: You're going to hell.
Me: God loves me too much to do that. He may have told you you're going to hell, but he promised me a great place to rest.
      Person: Yea right you non-believer.
Me: You're just jealous because you have to go to this hell place you keep talking about. The fact that you keep whining about it obviously shows you deserve to go there. Stop complaining and maybe just maybe you can be happy for once.

I do accept the fact I could be wrong, but I think this is the most logical answer. May my future be bright whether it be in existence or not.

I think whatever happens when I die I will deal with it. If I go to hell I will incourage the people there to become good If I reincarnate I will do the same. If I go to heaven I dont exactly know what I'll do. maybe a job like a gaurdien angel or something. I dont want to go too sleep forever, But maybe thats best.

Humans have more free will and are often seen as supirior to other animals, maybe because we have proven ourselves worthy of it. The more power and free will we have the more efficiently we can complete the goals of God. But also the more dangerous we are. So maybe when we die we either go back a species or go up to a more powerful intelligent being if we prove are selves worthy.

Whoever said that a human is the highest form? If reincarnation were true, how would we know that a dung beetle would be a bad thing?

goes back to the fact that we only know a thing is so because somebody told us.

Yeah...like in Ancient Greece, they said if you were really horrible, you'd come back as a woman! Now personally, I'd consider being reincarnated as a man a step down -- but that's just me. It's all relative.

Props to the D for turning ITM's comment into part of this big, happy, meaningful discussion!

I think humans are a 'higher' (I hate the word, but oh well) form of reincarnation than lets say, beetles. I think our potential is much much higher, the human body and mind offers us the ability to reason at high levels, and to feel large amounts of love and compassion (something a beetle cannot, at least not up to our level). On the other hand we have much greater responsibilties and are capable of alot of negative things aswell, like hate and anger. I think the more love one is capable of feeling, the 'higher' developed the being is. Thats why you could say 'angels' are one step above us (they are less pestered by things such as hate) (if you believe in angels anyway)

Haha. Not a book. Movies. Both directed by Richard Linklater. That'd be a good name for a book though.

Yeah, I know..thats why I don't like the word higher, but I just lack a better word =P But I suppose what you want to say with the above is a little different from what I want to say..but, you are right.

I do think we have more potential though, than beetles. Even though we are all part of this same thing and everything big and small has an important role, we just have more potential (body & mind) than a beetle (but the difference between the beetle and us, in my eyes, is time..but I dont know if animal souls and human souls experience the same..who knows, I don't). Does having more potential make you 'higher'? No..it doesn't, nothing makes you 'higher' (its just a stupid word that is so hard to get around ).
But if you believe love and compassion are the 'most evolved' emotions than you would automatically conclude that a human (not saying they love more by default, but they could) has more potential. But also more potential to live up to the 'lower emotions' . Thats just how I feel

Unless you have been told by God Himself that you are going to heaven, I find this assumption to be quite audacious no matter how devout you may be to your religion. Personally, I do believe the Bible to be true as well, but I don't see how any of us are in a position to say that.

The death experience is a very complex one, and in most accounts results in reincarnation. Not many will return to their true state (some call enlightenment). It's entirely down to the individual. After many lifetimes everyone shall fully return to this state. Like you experience a dream, and although in the dream you don't know it, you are always in the bed. You never left it. Life is that dream, and in between dreams is a chance to wake up, but most of the time souls choose to return to the dream state, mainly because they don't understand. They have forgotten their true state. From time to time, however, one will escape the dreams, and this occures as a result of realising you are dreaming (much like LD). They may choose to remain out of the dream, or return and help others to escape. Many are ignorant, though.

Forgive them, and be at peace.

Personally, as a cradle Catholic who has examined other religions, I always come back to Catholocism. This is not to impose my views on someone else; it is simply an answer to the original question. Even if Everlasting Life does not exist, I find immense comfort in the thought that it does. As for God, I believe He is an ever-watching and caring being. Having experienced my share of deaths, it is incredible to believe I will see the people I love most again. So maybe I'm a wuss for beliving in this to take comfort in the fact that my soul is not mortal. Well, it keeps me sane and it helps me keep going every day. Whatever works, people.
