Mind is a very precious thing, but what to do with it, and how.
Feed it information
Use it to guide you to happiness
Survival! We did develop to intelegent being to survive better!
Most important(to me): Use creativity and passion, get obsessed in something very emotional, passionate; our mind does have that ability, doesn't it!? Then, fulfil it!
I like to see the world as action-reaction(only a single point of view of my several points of view):
You need positive and passionate emotions, so study what envokes them! Do the action that gives you these reactions. View at as simple as that(generally), and you would have used your mind to a great purpose: pleasure in life.
Of course there are much more aspects on how to use the mind, but we'll discuss that seperatly in this thread.
Great thread BTW, can't wait untill it expands :D
Through your very existence, you already fulfill your purpose. Whenever possible, rather than think about what I ought to be doing, I focus on space instead. It keeps my mind clear, and thus sharper. Chasing a means of not feeling like I'm wasting my mind only clouds it. Whatever the future brings, surely we'll have the tools to deal with it then.
In a nut shell, I use my mind to remain present.
Well shit.
Whatever you deem important to do. However there is one thing that I find to be of utmost importance. People work out in many different ways, there's bodybuilders, kickboxers, joggers, you name it. But besides that people forget to train their mind, so they are actually separating their body from their mind. Even though both are one until you die, so treat yourself like you're 'one'. One is all, all is one. Meditation is the answer for everyone. Besides that you can cultivate other personal interest such as drawing, making music or sports.
Interesting vieuw presence, it is what I try to do when I meditate. Slowly but surely things will come into your mind that matter.
Whatever you do do NOT buy into the current brain-fitness craze. I just read an article about studies done on products such as Lumosity, which advertise that they can improve your brain performance through games.
The only thing that is actually improved is your ability to play Lumosity games.
I found meditation is much more beneficial than a sudoku.
That being said, anything that requires focus and concentration helps combat dementia and senility.
Feed it mushrooms until you no longer need em, then close yourself off from the rest of the world and get to know yourself. After that, have a child and spend the rest of your life with the same person trying not to blow your brains out. Upon natural death, meet your first self and slap it right across the face. Don't worry, it's used to it.
