Which chair will you sit on? why?

Which chair will you sit on? why?
If you have on a pair of shorts on and enter a room with two chairs and It’s only 60 degrees temperature (cool) in the room. One chair is a metal fold up type of chair and the other is a padded cloth chair.
      I. 1.Which chair will you sit on?
      II. 2.Why?

It depends -- if I'm wearing long pants, I'll probably sit on the metal chair. If I'm wearing shorts or skirt, I'd want to sit on the padded chair.

Why? 'Cuz in jeans, I'd feel "stuck" to the cushioned chair, and in shorts/a skirt, I'd get colder quicker with my skin against the metal.

Er...why are you asking this again now?

Yea the question is with shorts. Actually that answer is ok because you said feel colder. A lot of people say the metal chair is colder when actually the two chairs in the same room within a small window of time will be and are the same temperature. If you take a thermometer and test the temperature the two will be the same temperature. What happens is the metal conducts the heat out of your body faster not because it’s any different in temp.

Why am I wearing shorts if it is only 60°?

Where am I at that they could not afford enough regular chairs and had to bring in some metal folding ones?

Why do I have to sit down when entering? Am I waiting for something? What am I waiting for?

Ah well, I guess I'll just play along.

The answer, regardless to any of the above questions and regardless to any of the situational factors imposed by the original question, other than the type of chair, and assuming both chairs are empty and nobody else is entering or deciding where to sit, I would most certainly sit in the padded chair? Why? Because nobody really likes to sit on a chunk of metal for very long... at least I sure don't... Things that are more solid than skin tend to break one's ass.

My answer would only change if someone else was entering or deciding where to sit. In that case, which has nothing to do with the original question of this I am aware, I would take the low road and sit on the metal chair and give the padded chair to the other person, yes even if it means having a cold, broken ass.

If you study thermodynamics you will understand that there is no such thing as cold. It is a less degree of heat or the absence of it. Similarly there is no such thing as darkness. It’s only a word that describes the absence of light. The wormer body and the less wormer chair causes a thing called a heat gradient and heat travels from a greater to a lesser heated substance. Thus the metal chair is not cold, it absorbs heat at a faster rate then the cloth.

Yea I thought about that. But there is no topic for science. And looking at some of the answers I see why.

Well first of all you asked which chair one would sit on and why. This is a matter of personal preference. You did not ask which chair was colder and why.

If you were not interested in people's opinions and thoughts on the matter, but just wanted to see if anyone would answer the way you wanted with some scientific babble about both being the same temperature, which I might add was not even the question, then you should not have even asked in the first place, or better yet, constructed the question in a manner to get the answer you wanted.

"constructed the answer to get what you wanted"

And there is the problem with pseudo-science.

His query was reasonably well-formed in that it didn't try to skew the answer.

He might have asked "if you wanted to stay warmer would you sit on the metal or padded" but that might be skewed in itself.

Padded. It's warmer and softer in the cool room.
Now, is it just me, is isn't there any philosophy in this question *scrolls back and checks for something he missed*

even at 60 degrees, that's freakin warm to me

give me a 30-40 degree room anyday and I'll STILL be in shorts

      Epistemology. Love it.

I can definitely group his question into epistemology.

In fact, maybe even specifically exploring pragmatic or even constructivistic epistemology.

I don't want to hear about the brain from someone that doesn't have one.
Nor do I want to hear about evolution from someone that hasn't evolved.

Let's say you we're at the temperature oyu were comfortable at and all the common controls you were fine. And lets say the room was 60 degrees and there was a padded chair and a metal chair you hjad to sit on one. Now you asked which we wanted to sit on, and you said there was an answer, but I think your answer isn't the answer to your question. Anyone would have chose the padded chair. Which is what you asked us, because the padded chair would retain our body heat better. Now if you asked us which chair is warmer or something like that, that would make more sense, but you asked which chair we would want to sit on(this making us feel more comfortable and warmer), and any person who wanted to retain their body heat would have picked the padded chair, just because hty are both the same temperature doesn't mean that one wouldn't keep you warmer.

Not necessarily true. Nagahyde would likely be more conductive than the metal.

Further, not *everyone* will invariably choose a padded chair. I tend not to as I prefer the metal chair as an enhancement to attentiveness.

      Razorback you get a B+
You answer it with the right idea. You just missed that it was a two-part question.
1.Which chair will you sit on?
      2.Why?
Of course most would choose the cloth
2.Why Razorback answered the metal will conduct the heat faster. Correct!
Now class, one questions at a time
      Answer to
1.take your preference. Everyone gets that one right
2.The conducting of heat threw the two are not the same? Any answer to that respect would be correct..
Another analogy would be to ask.
Technically what does a refrigerator do?
      A make it colder
      Or
B Remove the heat from inside.

I really like that question. The answer is remove the heat from the inside because cold is the absence of heat. Wait, it's the technically the same thing. If something is getting colder it means it is losing heat. And if it's removing heat from the inside it means that it is losing heat. So the answer would be C All of the above.
