Clairvoyance/Psychic Powers - Is it a curse or a gift?

I personally have been to several psychics over the last five years or so. I did run into a few scammers, but I also met three psychics who were able to tell me things that have happened to me, and one was even able to tell me the names of a few of my friends, and they were not typical names to guess either. The few that were true psychics astounded me with their predictions which came to reality later on and about what they told me about my past - the type of information nobody could ever have known or simply guessed. I know many people think psychics are B.S, and I'm not out here to impose my views on anyone - I just reccomment going to one who actually knows what she's doing, and see for yourself before making any judgments.

But anyway...many people have various pre concieved notions about the power of clairvoyance... some say it's a gift from God/Higher power... while others say it's a curse because people are not supposed to know their own fate/future. Some say the way psychics obtain information is by witchcraft/black magic, etc... What do you guys think? Another aspect of this topic I've been wondering about is - if clairvoyance is given to a selected few of the population... what makes them "special" to be granted this gift?... And if it's given to just them... why does it then transfer to their children... a good example of this is Sylvia Browne (world famous psychic) she said that she got her psychic abilities passed down to her from her grandmother, and she then herself also passed it down to her son, who is also a well respected psychic. Is this power limited to a few lucky individuals for whatever reason, and maybe to a few family blood lines... or is it something we all can tap into and develop?

I have worked with Tarot cards for over 10 years and that isn't long in the psychists world,lol... However this is what I can tell you from my own experience (note that I said "my own experience" coz others will definitely have another take on this :P)

Every psychist that is not a charlatan can give you an explenation of how they do it and where their gift comes from, but deep down inside none of them is sure of that. They just do what they do and try to explain it with whatever fits their belief system...

I realized very early that I could tell peoples past very accurate and I could tell them how their past moved into their present circomstances. That's where the accuracy ends. I don't know why, but when I open a book of tarot cards for someone, the past is just there.

I've worked on this with a psychologist who worked for the army and we sort off came with a logical explenation that shows that all the rest of prediction comes down to simple psychology:
Once you told people their past they are suprised and start to give away information, weather they realize it or not.
Everything we do or did, everything that happens to us and in the world is dominated by the natural rule of cause and effect, depending on the choices we each make.
When you look at a persons past there are several clues about the kind of choices he/she makes... and most people tend to repeat making the same kind of choices or habbits, which makes the futur 'predictible'. It's only when a person makes a concious sudden change, that they will have a majure shift in future events... but most won't do that because it gives them a chaotic and insecure feeling (change and chaos go hand in hand)
A good psychist is a good psychologist who can get in the head of his clients, he knows their habbits and behaviour patterns and he can predict how they will act in their current situations by looking at their past behaviour patterns... from there he starts predicting the outcomes by looking at the cause and effect factor...

Some psychist have the gift of empathy (which I think is also a natural thing that everyone can learn), meaning they "feel" their clients emotional state, and this give good tips of where the client is in the present...

I'm not saying that they are all charaltans coz most don't even realize that they are doing this, it's like the psychology is the gift itself...
The only question left is: how do they see the past? And I don't have an answer on that...

One thing I know is that you don't need a psychist to tell you your future, if you take a close enough look at yourself, your behaviour patterns and the choices you make/made...then take a look at the cause and effect factor in your life, and you will know what changes you have to make to get the desired future effects... even if it means changing your world upsidedown...
IMO this is also how most magic works....
It sounds difficult but everyone can learn this...

I would absolutely have to say its a gift.....to be special - to be different. To be able to see and feel things that the MAJOR majority can not....now thats a gift.

The only thing close to myself having any type of "gift" is -in all seriousness- i can sense that my phone line will ring about 5 seconds before it actually starts ringing. Is that a "gift"? hmmm...take that a bit further and give me internal 'Caller I.D. ' ---NOW thats a "gift". <those damn telemarketers wouldnt know what hit 'em :lol: > For some reason it only works with land line phones and not cell phones.

Talents and Abilities are still distributed throughout the Public in the same proportions as they were within the Primitive Tribal Communities from which Humanity largely evolved. The optimum size of these tribal units was from one hundred to several hundred individuals. This would indicate that there would only need to be one psychic per every several hundred individuals. If Christianity ever decides to re-formulate itself without the nefarious influences of that scoundrel Paul, then we should see something of a rehabilitation in the reputations of these Honest Psychics.

We are still evolving. ESP could be a trait that humans will eventually develope fully.

I've never actually tried it so I don't know if its valid.

Such a talent hasn't even been proven to exist. If anyone can prove it's existence, I would love to see it, so that I could start developing my own psychic skill.

Some talents are not made to be used in public. That is because we understand there are some people after those who do so possess these talents, and won't hesitate to trap them in an experiment lab.
Except...I did manage to do something in a little exam earlier (not the EEG, which FLIP!! They have not given me any results yet!!), but one that I had to take in order to become an official member of this special group:

I think everyone is born with some psychic/clairvoyant potential. I'm sure everyone has experienced lurches of intuition that nudges you in a certain direction, but you don't understand why. Some people call it a "gut feeling." So how do you explain this? There's no proof that it exists but yet most of us has experienced this at some point or another. People who are psychic just have more of this "intuitive" ability. There are born psychics like Sylvia Browne, and there are other people who have to work at it. Not everyone has the potential for full-blown psychic abilities, but everyone has some potential for growth.

Personally, if I hadn't experienced this phenomenon myself, I wouldn't have believed it. I'm a very fact and science-based person - but I know this exists. Sometimes I have a thought streak through my mind, and within a few seconds it happens.

For example, I was driving on the expressway and there was an 18 wheeler truck in the lane next to me. I had this morbid thought of one of his tires blowing out and the truck start to lose control. Within barely 10 seconds, one of the tires on the side toward me blew out with a loud bang and pieces of tire were ripping away and flying everywhere. I sped up to avoid the debris, but watched the truck in my rearview. He got safely to the shoulder, but I was shaken up. I saw this happen just before it actually did. There was proof that intuition/clairvoyance/psychic abilities - whatever the hell you like to call it - EXISTS.

Though do think people have some 'psychic' tendencies, all of the 'proof' anyone has been able to bring to the table has been coincidental. I have even experienced things such as burns has experienced, yet this could be purely a result of coincedence.

It could be a mere coincidence, but it has seemed to happen more than what would be a likely coincidence. I'm not saying that every single time something happens like that, it's got to be psychic powers, because that would probably be false. I can say, though, that coincidences happen on a random basis - and some of these experiences are anything but random.

I truly hope you are right. If people do in fact posess these types of powers, if we could master it, sciences and technology in general would be taken to a whole other level.

As I said b4, there might be a few that have them, but they do not want to reveal them...
Why spend life trapped in an experiment center when to make money, they can just enter lotteries, and have their bosses enter lotteries (so they can get raises!!) :wink:

Well, nes, though I do think some of them might stay hidden, there are some who would most certainly not. Come on.... Anyone who could prove the existance of psychich power would be an instant millionaire and an internationally recognized personality. Not all people have a sense of nobility. Some people would be like, "I can prove this power exists. Cha ching!".

Anyway, if this 'power' did exist, this means that anyone would be able to develop it. This would change technology and society as we know it.

Actually, anyone CAN develop it. Just some people have more likelihood of being better than others. But all humans have the capacity for it. However, some people who are close-minded will never be able to develop it because they are too skeptical.

Yeah, well we can become millionaires anyways. Michelle, my friend, totally aced a Lottery, so it is as easy as that! We just guess at lotteries, and we're rich!! No need to be a lab rat!!

Yes, but there is a difference between being the kind of rich that comes from scientific and international acclaim and the lottery. A big difference. With knowledge, comes power. Presenting proof of such a thing would probably be the biggest thing since sliced bread, thus affording great power to that person. Why would anyone choose the lesser of those?

Oh, and burns, that sounds like an interesting book. I might pick it up. Perhaps there should be a thread on the research team about who can develop psychich powers after so long, as in a few years. The outcome might be cool.

And there is also a difference between Freedom, and being a lab rat (with knowledge). I would much rather be free, and using the lotteries to do that, than have science know about it, and be trapped 4ever inside an experiment center

A lab rat? You don't have to do anything you don't want to do, as far as scientific research goes. At least, not in the USA. Your constitutional rights afford you the right to your privacy, and freedom, unless by "lab rat" you mean mental patient, and by "experiement center" you mean mental hospital if you couldn't really prove you were psychic and someone misinterpreted your belief in your ability as insanity. That could possibly happen, if you couldn't absolutely prove it.

Well, what I mean is that experiment centers are places where they test people and objects (like lab rats). Not exactly a mental hospital here. I mean, if it was to really turn out correctly, they might trap me in there (like a rat!!).

The constitution forbids them to do anything like that. If you participated in any tests, it would be purely by your own free will. Nobody can force you to participate in anything you would not want to participate in. Unless of course, you have committed a crime. Nobody has the right to hold anyone else prisionor for any reason (except if they violate the law), here in the US. I would think you would know that since you are in fact from the United States. I understood what you meant about the experimenting lab, and such. I was trying to infer that perhaps if someone thought you were crazy because you couldn't back up your claims, they'd put you in an institution. There is no other possible way anyone could trap you as you have described without your own consent. Plus, if psychic power is such as prevalant as people make it out to be, I am sure someone else would be more than willing to help further science in exchange for a whole lot of money.

I think I would prefer to just hang out w/my friends...and go to the group for the specially enhanced (and I just passed the exam there). They do not study you for science, but better yet, study you, so they can get to know you. It is hosted by the mormon church, and people from any religion can go (Michelle is Catholic, and I am Crescent Viewan). Since both the mentally impaired and the mentally enhanced go at the same time, usually, they have us participate a little, but mostly, tell them what they are going to do b4 hand, or playing Telephone the game w/my Buddy, Michelle.

Yes, but you are not every other so called 'psychic' in the world, nes. There are some who would sell their talent out (if they could in fact prove it) as soon they could.

Yeah, many would forfeit their freedom to score some cash.
Michelle and I are not like that though. We like to live in our community in peace, and just hang out w/that group. And I am not that abnormal either...it isn't that bad to be able to guess at stuff like that, or to play games like Telephone w/others like that. Not that crazy in the least. It's just like someone who is talented at VGs, LDs, and maybe even a sport.

To stay on topic, I think in a way, it is both. A gift that allows you to avoid danger, and be able to figure out stuff a lot easier. A curse, b/c skeptics like that Randi guy I had in my sig (I drew all over his face) will not let it go and leave me alone!!
