I read an article in the New York Times a few months back that just came to mind. It was about a tribe (dont rememebr where) that had jsut come in contact with the outside world. While the scientists etc where trying to decipher their language and translate words they found that they had a different and perhapse much more accurate view of time.

When we say that somthing happened we say that the time has passes and it is behind us. And that the futre is ahead of us. This tribe looked at it in the opposite direction. The past was in front of them and the future is behind them. It makes a good amoutof sense.

Think of it this way. When you are looking at your computer screen right now you can see it. It is not behind you. If it were you wouldnt be able to see the screen. Such is true with the past. You know what happened in your own past, you have seen it in front of you. If somthing has not happened yet you cannot see it, so how can it be in front of you? this would imply that the future is withing your view.

      Ha, yeah nice point...

However you could say we are all looking at the past, but walking backwards

Oh no, you've got me thinking.

      This could take a while.

in a sense the future is in front of us. look at it this way. lets do some role playing. lets say that the past is playing the role of your house and the future is playing the role of your destination. your current location is the present. your going on a trip:

once you've left your house you can't see it anymore, its behind you. your future is now ahead of you. you can't see it yet but you know its there and you know its coming up sooner or later.

Then BAM you get hit by a car and never make it to your destination. How could you see that coming? If it was right in front of you why wouldnt you get out of the way? ... I just made my own brain hurt.

The past doesn't exist, only some images accumulated in our brain. The future also doesn't exist, only some images accumulated that we project in our mind in advance. There is only presence.
      I'm tired being sorry.
