The Delay in Seeing Results ...

When making changes within yourself in order to change outside yourself, it's important to accept that there is usually a time delay between your conscious decision to make the changes (for example, self love, or changing beliefs about money etc.).......... and the results you see in your life. And this time delay will depend on the particular issue, and how engrained the belief/pattern is.

You may, for example, have a belief that the only way to get support from a loved one, is to be struggling and in crisis - and this belief will be programmed into all your cells. It will be a part of you. It may have been programmed from childhood experiences..... this will probably take quite a while to change.

When you decide to change something about yourself, 90% of you didn't get the memo yet! It takes a while to filter through, depending on the subject and how strong it is programmed in you.

There's no way of knowing how long it will take for anyone's unconscious to catch up with the conscious decisions. The only time you'll know, is when you see some kind of result - then you'll know, ah, more of me has now caught up

But the good news is, it won't be a case of all 90% all the time. Different aspects will change at different times and it will probably be gradual. And it will be different for different changes.....

For example, imagine a coffee shop. Every day for the last twenty years, a particular customer has come in at 11am and ordered a black coffee with four sugars. All the staff know him, and he no longer needs to order. As soon as the staff see him, they make a black coffee with four sugars, and serve it to him. Then one day, he changes his order. When they bring him the coffee, he tells them he no longer wants sugar in it.

Now, the next time he comes in, one of two things happen: either, the same staff member serves him, but is so in the habit of putting four sugars in the coffee, she goes ahead and does it automatically and has to be reminded by the customer - no sugar. Or..... a different staff member - who hasn't been told about the change, will automatically make the coffee - black with four sugars.

So, it depends on how many staff members there are, and what kind of communication exists between them. It will also depend on each individual staff member, and their own individual ability to get out of the habit, as to how long it will be before it becomes automatic for the customer to receive a black coffee with NO sugar.

During this transition, he may sometimes get black coffee without sugar, and then get four sugars again. Sometimes he may get two sugars, because the staff member caught herself half-way through putting sugar in, and stopped. But each time he comes in, he's getting closer to what he wants, because each time he comes in and the coffee is made - even when they accidently put sugar in it, the message is getting more and more ingrained. And then one day, he'll walk in and his coffee will be automatically served without sugar, and the next day, it will happen again..... and so it will become the norm.

Now.... here's another example - and this explains the difference between the subject matter...

Imagine a Railway Junction. There are two workers who control the signals at this railway junction. Both have been doing this for twenty years. Every day for twenty years, two trains come from opposite directions at 4pm. And every day for twenty years, the controller on duty has set the signal for the East-bound train to stop, in order to allow the West-bound train through, before then giving the green signal to the East-bound one.

One day, both controllers receive a message to say there's a new addition to the track, and from now on, you don't need to stop the East-bound train - there is a new track for it. Now, imagine how long it's going to take for those controllers to trust that new instruction - considering that if it's not true, or if it's an error, the trains will crash and people will be killed.

So in this senario, unlike the coffee shop where it was just a case of everyone getting the message and getting into the new habit - in this senario you've got the Danger element as well!!
And THAT will take longer. These controllers may need to receive that message many times before they believe and trust it.

And one of the controllers may be more trusting than the other, so he may one day allow the train through - and that will work fine. But the other controller may not hear about it, so he may continue to hang onto the old instructions for a while longer - "just in case". But no matter how long it takes, if he continues to get the message, he will eventually trust that it is true and not a mistake, and/or he will hear about the success from the other controller. And he too will then make the change.

We have no idea of what our cells consider "dangerous" - for example, trusting may feel dangerous - that may be the equivilant to some of our cells, of changing the train signals after all these years.
After allllll these years of not trusting, now suddenly they're told they can trust, well it will take a while for that to get through. Whereas, getting into the habit of noticing the good stuff day-to-day would be more like the coffee shop - a habit change.

So the best thing we can do is to remind ourselves that this is what is happening behind the scenes, and to be patient . Knowing that the message is getting through, and that the results will begin to show as each part of you receives, and trusts the message. The more understanding and patient you are, the easier and faster the changes will happen because the less stress, the less resistance to the changes.

And as the rest of the 90% of you catches up with your conscious mind, you'll THEN start to see the results of those changes reflected in your physical world (your mirrors) - money/ relationships/ health/ career etc.

So, if it feels like you're doing everything right, and you're changing your vibrations by focusing on feeling good, and you're out of the habit of negative beliefs, but you're not seeing the results in the physical world, remember that the majority of you hasn't got the memo yet, but if you keep going, it will!

      I hope this makes sense.

      Why is this in philosophy?

The Law of Attraction is probably one of the most idiotic form of New Age bullshit intended to squeeze money out of people's insecurities with things that make absolutely no sense whatsoever. If I got to be in charge, I'd hang these suckers.

I've been sick for a friggin 2 months now so forgive me for having a bit of a negative edge. The Law of Attraction still doesn't make any sense. I just feel kinda bad for putting it out without any further ado.

Trying it, one assumes that failure means they are 'doing it wrong' until something good happens, hence the "it needs to filter down" claim. People tend to assume that the 'secret' is true because it really can't be disproven, though it can't be proven either, regardless of the smattering of anecdotes attesting to its effectiveness.

There's no harm in trying it, but I suspect a more consistently successful approach will be to work toward an outcome instead of expecting it to happen on its own.

That's also what I would criticize about it. If I claim that the secret is to screw a hole in your knee because - by some miraculous means I couldn't care less to elaborate on - it will lead to endless happiness, it doesn't really make any sense either. Actually I think I'll start writing a book on screwing knees right now and if any of you bastards steal my idea I will sue the shit out of you.

Sorry to hear of your illness, Korittke

There are many beliefs and theories and philosophies, and to be honest, unless I've completely missed something really obvious, as far as I know there is not one shred of Obvious proof that any of them is true.

I therefore believe that whatever a person believes, is true for them. So I don't try and convince anyone of what I believe, but I am happy to answer questions if someone is interested and wants to know more, in order to find out if it suits them.

I understand what you're saying, R.D, but I have to say that I don't assume it's true because it can't be disproven. When I first read about it, it made sense to me based on my own life experience, and so I researched it further It works for me, just as certain other beliefs or philosophies or ways of life work for others.

I don't believe in certain other beliefs or philosophies, but I certainly would never say they're not true because, to my knowledge, until we check out of the physical world, we don't reeeeeally know for certain what is true - everything can be explained away in some way or another so it's a matter of choosing what makes sense for you, and feels right to you.

What is true and what is not is not a matter of choice. Antibiotics work even if you don't believe in them.

The Secret is that "The Secret" works because of the phenomenon of selective perception and the unexplained assumption of causality between intention and "stuff" in the universe.

That is one explanation, Korittke, and to be perfectly honest, I don't really care how or why it works for me, only that is does.

... so does the Law of Attraction as far as I know

I was referring to non-physical things. For example, I believe that if a person believes in God and the devil, and heaven and hell, then as far as that person is concerned, that is the truth, and they live their life according to that. And whatever happens in their life, they will percieve within that context.

If someone believes there is nothing beyond the physical world and that we are life forms without spirituality and that spirituality is simply an effect caused by a chemical in the brain, or the stimulation of a particular part of the brain, then that is the truth for them - and whatever they experience, they will perceive within that context. For example, if they experience what appears to be a visit from an angel, they would KNOW it was an illusion caused by brain activity and nothing spiritual at all. The religious person would KNOW that it was a real angel.

Someone else may KNOW it was the bottle of wine they drank at lunchtime

As far as I'm aware, we won't really know what the truth is until we get to step outside it. (or not, depending on what you believe lol ) Presumably, when we "check out", we either cease to exist completely (one possibility), or we will gain perspective and be able to look at the fish bowl from the outside - and THEN be able to see what colour it is, where the food comes from, who is responsible for maintaining it - and indeed whether there even is a fish bowl.

Everything (including selective perception) seems to have more than one explanation depending on your beliefs.

So, therefore, I would say the only thing to do is to choose what makes the most sense to you, and what works for you

Amen to that. I actually tried three different ones, so now I got 30 days of antibiotics on me and actually it looks like I have infectious mononucleosis which is viral.

      To boil it down:

      - If you DON'T have a good, positive attitude, nothing good will ever happen to you
      - ...so, having a positive attitude means you open up the chance of there being good things happening to you.
      - Chicks dig confidence, etc.

...but it's not some magical, mystical force (I have yet to watch those videos from the other thread though hehe - internet's too slow for streaming right now... will have to think positive thoughts about my cable fixing itself first).

I think the buddhist approach is much better. instead of focusing on your desires, train yourself to become detached from everything. it's all subject to change, it can all let you down. and someday you will die. so it's better to ingrain that into your mind, to make it the way you think, then you'll always be happy. that doesn't mean you can never enjoy the things in life, or save up for a vacation or something...but if you don't get it right away or something comes up and you can't have what you want as soon as you thought, you won't be dissapointed, and your constant positive attitude will surely get you what you want faster.

there's also the satanic approach, it's not bad either.

I can't think of a single approach that's not better than the Law of Attraction. Satanism is definitely better than "The Secret". I actually have a Satanic Bible right here, and at least it's funny because it mocks Christianity. The Law of Attraction is just stupid fucking bullshit.

Well, and Buddhism is a whole different can of juice because it actually makes sense. It's derogatory to even mention Buddhism in a thread about The Secret.

      HAHA, seriously.

I like to consider myself a satanist but really only because it's the "opposite" of christianity. I'm not a LaVeyan Satanist (though I like his book). I guess I'd call it "Philosophical Satanist", I saw that somewhere, but couldn't find a definition. sounds about right, but whatever, who the fuck cares.

I'm just beginning to study buddhism, it's wonderful. it makes me sick when I hear about christians going over to countries where buddhism is prominent and trying to "save" them.

I'm into psychology, existentialism and what is perhaps known as scientific/humanistic/atheistic spirituality or transpersonal psychology as well as integral thought. I am very much interested in the overlapping parts of psychology and philosophy. I especially like to see Zen Buddhism from a Western psychology perspective since I consider it one of the most interesting and deepest religions known today.

All of these interests carry the problem of having to read books (not only one), having to think and align different concepts, make them match up with natural sciences and never being absolutely certain about what's true and what's not. I prefer it to supernatural stuff though. It actually gets you somewhere while all that supernatural stuff is going to get you into is the loony bin.

Also, if you're on the skeptic's side you have funny people like Brown, Penn, Dawkins and Randi, magicians, scientists and entertainers while the supernatural side has what... a bunch of lunatic college drop-outs, people with not the slightest understanding of science and greedy leeches who try to play into your insecurities all the time to fill their sorry ass pockets.

One time I went to a bike shop and there were books about ESP, conspiracy theories, aliens and shamanism all over the place. Soon the shop owner, a mid-30s lady, came out and looked at me with her huge, glazing yet empty eyes - the kind you only see in esoterics. From that point on I decided never to get involved with the esoterics business again. Damn, maybe she would have had a flying bicycle for me, like the one in E.T.

      That would have been awesome.

"The Secret" is presenting a message that inadvertently aligns with the negative, or left-handed path… by inspiring you to approach your Higher Self as if it were a prostitute.

"The Secret" teaches you to approach your Higher Self and tell it what you want, how you want it, where you want it, how much you're willing to pay for it and what you expect to do when it's over.

This philosophy elevates the 'ego,' and it's own demands, to a Godlike level… as if you should go forth and seek whatever your heart desires, no matter how big the price tag, because the Universe is basically built to satisfy you… like a giant "cosmic gumball machine".

The opposite approach — that of the positive path — is to approach your Higher Self as if it were a maiden.

Let's say you're the guy, and you want to 'get lucky'. With the prostitute you go, pay the fee, and get exactly what you want from her… but since it is illegal, you may end up getting hit with a few arrows as well.

If you want to connect with the maiden, it's not so simple. You have to LISTEN to her.

You have to dance with her… explore her needs… find out what she wants… and be willing to move with her own free will, so that the two of you can COMBINE your visions into a MUTUAL view of what you want. Only then do you consummate the relationship.

The problem with philosophies like those in "The Secret" is they assume the 'ego' IS the Higher Self. There is no other authority to look to. You know what you want, and therefore that is what God wants. End of story!

This error in judgment is a classic mistake. This materialistic oversight is an experience that we are all intended to have, as it is written into the mind of the Galaxy. It is a growth experience we ALL must go through.

The Secret is at least teaching people to get to the point where they are aware of their power, and even though it nudges you towards the negative, I know for a fact that this film has had a positive impact on many people… namely because they read their pre-existing positive biases into it, though messages of service-to-others are strongly diminished, if not nearly eliminated in the actual finished product.
