This absolutley blew me away! I was surfing the web when i came across the video "the secret" It described the law of attraction and how it alters and changes your world just based off of your thoughts.

Here is a general overview and how to use it (very basic. if you want to learn how to really use it then research it)

The law of attraction states that you attract what you think about, for example if you think of diesease all the time youll end up being in contact with it all the time. If you think of money all the time you will end up being in contact with money all the time... you attract what your mind is saying

How can I use this theory to gain what I want???

Its very simple yet difficult to master

start by thinking of somthing that you want...

Imagine yourself having that thing you want (in the present tense)

keep a feeling of joy within you that will help incubate the emotion and keep the thing you want in your mind...

Note: do not say "I want that" or "I will have it" say I do have that. It is important to have it in the present tense in order to keep your thought in the present tense and henceforth the object that you desire in the present tense

think of things that you are grateful of having (this will increase your joy level and increase the effect of the law of attraction)

repeat the process daily making sure that you want to do it and that it is not a chore

It is important that througout this process that you keep a reasonable timeframe that you BELIEVE it is very important that you believe that this will work (again if you believe that it wont work that is what your brain is attracting from the universe)

If you really want to know how to use this process then type "the law of attraction" into google and you will get some good results

Also I highly recommend the movie "The Secret"

Post what you think/ what I can revise / your experiences

Hey Smileyguy, Congrats on your discovery of the Law of Attraction!

Yep, apparently it's been around for a while. I read a book about it last year (recommended to me by one of our own DVers). The book is called "Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting". It's written in an easy to follow personal account of how the author changed her life. There's an explanation of why this theory is actually tied in with science (which I found interesting).

Long before that book, however, there was a guy who wrote about it (though back before it was called "Law of Attraction"). It's called "As A Man Thinketh" - and it's available online for free (in PDF format).

I'd start with that one if you're really interested in learning about it. It sounds simple, but it's a little more complex than it sounds (though not much). The hardest thing is to stick to it for a long period of time because there's always gonna be them days when we're blue or stressed out. The first book I mention teaches you how to flip that bad feeling around untill you're up again.

Anyway, enjoy.

Maybe it's just me, but I thought this stuff was like, common knowledge. You know, karma, the power of positive thinking, 3 fold law, etc. etc. etc.?

It's one of the ways the affirmations work, and spells in some pagan traditions.

Anyway, welcome to it!

I've also watched this video recently and I've been practicing it for I guess three weeks but the past couple days some doubt has been creeping in. I feel that it's pretty gimicky(i know, not really a word). One of the teachers even withdrew from the film because they felt the marketing campaign was far too aggressive and also admitted they are getting paid a good amount of money.
The way they try to act like there's a huge cover-up and that it really is a scientific law is just misleading. I feel it's more about psychology and believing in yourself and what you can do will allow you to unconsciously set yourself up for success while when you have doubt, you tend to let yourself fail.
I'm not saying it's not helpful but just don't hand people like this money. The way each talked about monetary wealth constantly shows just how money hungry they really are and that they are targeting those who have fallen on hard times.
For the record, likes do not attract likes, opposites do. Fred Alan Wolfe put it better by saying it's more of being at a common frequency.

Ah sorry but I really don't think there is any such thing as the "law of attraction." It's just a simple case of confirmation bias, or gambler's fallacy.

Why do people think that when they simply think of something they'll get it? It's the same reasons that gamblers all think that they will make money in the long run. Gamblers focus on the wins, and every time they lose they consider it an 'exception'. The more time and effort they invest in gambling, the more euphoric and enthusiastic they become when they actually win - they think that luck is somehow better for them, and that they can make a profit in the long run, despite the fact that every single gambling game is skewed towards giving the gambler a loss.

By someone trying to 'attract' something, they are committing exactly the same fallacy. Every time it by chance happens to come true - you wish for money and find a couple of dollars on the ground - it means that the phenomenon works, but every failure is excluded as an exception or reasoned to be because one is not doing it properly.

Sure, wish for money, but most people are going to come into conact with money every day. Try wishing for a brand new Jaguar XJ to turn up on your doorstep and find just how effective "attractive thinking" is.

No - I think there's a lot more to it, but not in mystical terms.

When we think about and focus on our dreams and goals, we become alert to opportunities and are more likely to exploit them.

Also, when we maintain a positive attitude, others are more willing and likely to work with us, because it makes us a lot more enjoyable to be around.

The power of positive thinking is very real. I've turned my life around completely using it - physically and otherwise.

It sounds simple, but it's a little more complex than it sounds (though not much)[/b]
Law of Attraction is not a genie in a bottle - you don't make wishes and wait for them to happen. For starters, you need to ask yourself WHY you want money. Because the money itself is not really what we want - it's what we can acquire WITH money. Money is just paper. The thought of money is not what gets you excited - it's what you can DO with the money that does. And this Law of Attraction stuff is based on feeling, vibrations, etc.

Example: "I want money - why? - so I can do what I want - like what? Go on vacation - why? to spend time in the ocean - why? so I can go scuba diving - why? - because I like it - why? I find it relaxing -why? because I want to relax -etc....

Then sit there and daydream about your trip, being in the water -the Law of Attraction will then work with the feelings you bring up - or the "vibrations" (not to sound too much like a hippie, but...) you put out when you imagine yourself scuba diving. If you don't get that tingly feeling inside, you're not putting out those feelers out there strong enough. Forces will start to get put in place and work behind the scenes so that you may reach your goal. It could be money, it may just be winning a trip in a contest - could be anything. The thing YOU have to do is keep your mind open to the "forces" guiding you in the right direction. Don't expect someone to just show up at your doorstep with a check and tickets to the Bahamas for no reason.

It is as almost as mind blowing as paralleling this to changing time. One minuscule event would change the entire coarse of events of you and many others.
The same goes for this concept.
How many things have an entire different outcome because of a positive response as opposed to a negative one? altering the future far beyond what we really can comprehend.

I agree - continually focussing on goals in such a way will be a great help towards achieving it. There is nothing wrong with being positive, and it certainly helps people to achieve things. Being posotive does not, however, 'attract' certain circumstances.

This is the part that I don't agree with. What kind of forces? Who directs them? How do they read your mind? How do they interfere with everyday life in order for you to reach your goal? Why should they listen to your wish for a higher-paying job and not the wishes of an african child in need of water or a child in a conflict zone who wishes the fighting would only stop?

The more you concentrate on something, the more surprising and meaningful it becomes when it happens. Coincidence happens every day, and a lot more often than people think, an example being thinking of someone and then having them ring. If you start training yourself to look for 'meaningful events' then of course you're going to see them.

Hey man, I didn't make the law, that's just how I understand it works. Shit, if I could answer those questions I wouldn't be sittin here workin' a 9 to 5.

Ah, you're tapping into something different here. There are those who believe these "coincidences" are the same forces I'm talking about. Even more would probably say it's a psychic link thing.

I think it has a lot to do with personal beliefs - there are those who say:
"God brought this my way"
others, "Geez, what luck!"
and others, "Yes, I've willed this good fortune through positive thought!"

Thumbs up Great Thread!

Thanks, SmileyGuy, for starting this thread.

I read "Excuse me, your life is waiting" a couple of years ago, and saw the movie, "The Secret" last year. I've been on a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong journey with this information and so much more - and it's been quite a roller-coaster ride!

I've had similar reservations as the ones posted here - and SO many more!

And I have to say that since around February/March this year, it all came together for me.

This is my conclusion about the Law of Attraction, after everything I've researched and experienced:

Everything in our physical world is energy - vibrating at various rates and frequencies. The rate at which you are vibrating will determine what you bring into your life. The way you feel is your indication of the rate at which you are currently vibrating. It's very simplistic to say "If you are feeling wealthy, you'll attract wealth. If you're feeling healthy, you will be healthy." - because there are so many varients of course. - But it's a start!

One of the many, many varients is: we all have patterns programmed into us - into our very cells, that may sabotage our efforts to attract what we want. For example, through experiences, influences or conditioning, a person may have a subconscious belief that the only way to get affection from a loved one, is to be in crisis. He may be completely unaware of this belief. But the belief may be so ingrained, it is programmed into every cell of this person. This means that no matter how much this person may WANT to have a crisis-free life, and no matter how much he focuses on a crisis-free life, he will be Automatically creating situations that put him in crisis.

This is something that wasn't covered in The Secret or EMYLIW - because they were just an introduction to the Law of Attraction.

There are various ways to clear these beliefs - many many methods, but the most important one is to Recognise that that is what is happening. If you Recognise that there may be limitting beliefs - ones that you may not even be consciously aware of - and that these may take some time to clear, then you will not be quite so devistated when your attempts to manifest what you want, don't happen for a while - or happen sporadically.

Over time, as you develop the new habits of thought and feeling, the information programmed into you will begin to change. And THEN you'll see the results. This is why people have such varying results, and some have none at all.

The basis of it all is how you're feeeeeling. The way you're feeling tells you the nature of what you're attracting/creating at the time. But there will most likely be a delay before you see the result - while the rest of you gets its ducks in a row

I have a Fabulous Interview for you to listen to if you'd like to, Roller. If you're interested in hearing some of the details of the scientific experiments that have been conducted on the subject, this is a really brilliant interview. The links are below - the interview is in 11 parts, each about 10 minutes long.

Having said this, I believe that whatever a person believes, is true for them, so I have no desire to convince anyone of anything - this is only if you're interested

Tornado Joe, I have to tell you about just such an occasion - not as exreme as tickets to the Bahamas, but ......

Around the begining of this year I decided I wanted to train in Karate again, and searched for a club in my area. The only one I could find was a large one that charged a fortune (about £200 per month for my 11 year old son and myself) - and you had to pay 6 months in advance.
The club is about 10 minutes drive from my house. Since it was so expensive, I decided to "file" the idea for the moment.

I decided that I would find a club that was more reasonable at some point in the future, but it wasn't a priority right then. So, although I was aware of it, and it was in the back of my mind, I didn't actively do anything to seek one out.

In May, just a few days before we were due to leave for a holiday to Vegas, one Thursday afternoon, there was a knock on my door (honestly!) and there was a guy from a National Karate club, finding out if local residents would be interested in joining local classes!!! There were a few of them going door-to-door. I've Never heard of such a thing before

Well, he came in and told us about the club and the prices etc. It cost us £60 for lifetime membership and license for three of us, and £3.60 each per class - pay as we go! It's within walking distance of our house. And it's one of the biggest Karate Clubs in the UK. We're absolutely loving it!!

How's that for place your order, then sit back and wait for them to knock on your door

xx

I liked the way Illusions explained the LOA. If anyone reading this thread is interested in further reading on this concept I highly reccomend the Seth books by Jane Roberts. Seth Speaks, or The Nature of the Psyche are both good Seth primers. The cornerstone of his teachings is "You get what you concentrate on, there is no other law." He comes back to this again and again but he also touches upon a huge range of subjects dealing with conciousness, with lots about dreaming.

The thing that I am delving into right now is the exploration of the contents of my own mind. I sounds simple enough - aren't we always aware of our own thoughts? I've found that the answer is yes and no - a very BIG no. Our thoughts ride on a host of unexamined assumptions - like the person who equates crisis with attention - that shape the course of our thoughts like the banks of a river shape the water flowing between them. They are there in plain sight if you bother to look for them, but we usually just don't. It's been a real eye-opener taking an in depth mental inventory.

What prompted me to do this was finally getting fed up with the habitual flow of my thoughts/feelings. I just got sick and tired of being in my own head and wanted to find a way to escape from my own routines. It's been fascinating to mentally step back and catch myself in flagrante as I habitually react to the triggers I've set up for myself.

Some examples;
petty annoyances with other peoples driving
mentally berating every overweight person I see
disgust with ubiquity of fast food joints
attitude about SUVs
etc., etc.

These are just a few of the most obvious and superficial ones, but you get the idea. As you can imagine, every time I step outside my door I'm confronted with all these things, all the time. The LOA sees to it that I have plenty of things to prick my annoyance wherever I go.

By being vigilant and bringing these crappy habits of thought to center stage every time they replay I have stopped reacting to them, and as a consequence, being out in the world is a lot more pleasant and I have much greater authority over my own attention.

It's thrilling to get inside and resculpt my psychic landscape. Indoctrinating myself with the idea that you get what you concentrate on has been key to revolutionizing my own awareness.

Couldn't this just lead to schizophrenia sometime down the road.

I always assumed "the secret" was someone's get rich quick scheme, as I only ever heard about it on late night infomercials trying to sell books that supposedly gave "the secret" that a list of rich people used to, well, get rich. What I figured I'd find was a mostly blank book that just said, "come up with your own get rich quick scheme like I did, sucker" on the first page.

Hi InfinityEcho

Yes, that is the danger of having just an introduction without the rest of the information. I do think it would have been best for them to make it clear in The Secret that there is a lot more to it and that each person needs to find out more, and to not take any dramatic steps until they've really found out about how to clear the patterns.

The thing is, whatever your issue is - the reason it's an issue is mostly due to beliefs that are programmed into you - into every cell. So if you have beliefs about money that you may not even be consciously aware of, programmed into every cell of you, even when you change your conscious thinking, it will take a long time for the message to get to every cell - and then a bit longer to reprogram it.

This is why it's important to take it easy in the begining. And to be aware of what is going on. Your conscious mind is now aware of the change, but the rest of you didn't get the memo yet! And as you continue to entrench the new habits, the message will eveeeentually reach the rest of you, and THEN you will start to see changes. It does take time when it's ingrained issues.

I'm going to post something below that explains it more....
