My Philosophy: The World Is Done For.

OK, I believe that the world as we know it will probably end, at latest, with the coming of the great-grandchildren of the modern times. While the reasons I believe this are not great in number, the implication of these becoming facts of life, as they quickly are, bother me and leave a bleak outlook for the 21st and maybe 22nd centuries.

If there is one thing I cannot go a day without being immersed around is sex and perversion. If one cares to listen carefully to many of the rap songs that people like, and even hip-hop if one so cares, then the person will notice the sexually-based words that these stars, worshipped my many for their singing capabilities. One of the staples of conversation amongst my teenage peers is their sexual adventures in life. Honestly, if they want to talk about it, the First Amendment gives them that right. The problem is, that does not protect future social and moral standards, just the right to speak your mind. Sex is becoming ever so common in younger and younger ages and it scares me to think that 20 years from now there will be 10-year-olds getting intimate with each other, as is likely in my opinion. People are becoming active at younger and younger ages, more teen girls are becoming pregnant, and this pattern sees no end in sight.

Consider this: Jamie Lynne Spears, the beloved actor that playes the main character of Nickelodean's "Zoey 101", is pregnant at 16 years of age. I understand this may happen on accident, but really now. Her fan base is 6 to 12 years of age. When she comes out with this kind of information, kids start to get curious about how this happened, and eventually, if they can do it too.

Perversion must be at record highs. I have so many friends that have minds permanently lodged in the gutter (though I cannot say I am perfect either) and it continues to expand. Someday, I tell you, there shall be eight year olds like this. Wait, there are!

Another thing that bothers me is drug usage. Yes, we've all heard about it and we all either care deeply or not at all. Referring to my teenage friends, I know a dozen smokers, a half-dozen potheads and probably people that use things like cocaine and LSD. These are teenagers. This means that as they grow and have children of their own, the new youth will be immersed in drug usage and join in, thus increasing the numbers and influence.

Again with the media, how often do you see a movie where someone smokes? In mainstream music, how often do you hear something about drug usage? Refer to the preferred logo for now-dead Tupac - a marajuana leaf. These are the people that the young people of our world look to as idols.

Alcohol seems so tempting, and there's a reason. It's because, in many nations, people aren't allowed to drink until they are 18 or 21 or whatever the number is. Of course, the rebellious teenage years makes us want to do this forbidden activity even more, and people indulge quite well in it. Car accidents are the results, unnessecary deaths. I am lucky in that none of my friends have been lost due to drunk driving but that could change at any moment.

Obesity. What can I say? In the modern world, people want things now, not caring for the future. Myers-Briggs, a group that researches psychology, has something of an explanation for this, though it may not be understood here. Let's just say that it's natural for roughly 25% of the American population to think far enough ahead to realize the food may kill them. In the USA, where I reside, most adults are overweight/obese, and I beleive the number of children has exceeded more than a third. What this means is that when my generation grows and takes its place in the world scheme, there will be many numbers of heart attacks and heart and lung diseases. These eating habits will be passed on to the next generations, making the world truly larger - in waist line, that is.

I hope nobody was offended by reading this. Should anyone have a differing opinion, please make it known because I am open to your ideas. These are my thoughts, my philosophy, and the reason I really do worry for the future.

I worry about the future too...but all the stuff you mentioned is not at the top of my priority list...

People killing each other because they are told to, humans who destroy their own planet, etc are a little more important if you ask me.

I don't think teenage mothers, drunks and obese people are going to be the death of us all.

Indeed I am. Not ferociously, mind you. Yes, people that are wasteful, murderous and whatnot are dangerous, though for me, the things that I see more often kind of worry me.

I sometimes worry about the same things, but I think that, first of all, those tend to be local or national issues, not global ones. For all the loose morals you will find in parts of the U.S., there are very traditional and puritanical moral systems elsewhere.

There is something to be said about the economic, social, and cultural changes that such behaviors cause, though. Encouragement of waste, ignorance, and callousness isn't something that's easy to tolerate. Combating just those issues of morality--ensuring a good future for our children, for example--are at the heart of the movement for action to prevent climate change and promote sustainable living.

I'm optimistic that the things that seem most worrying will, in general, be short-lived, and will change as new social movements replace the old.

Sorry, but I couldn't disagree more.

First off, your argument about sex. It is NOT anything new!! A few hundred years ago, you were supposed TO BE MARRIED BY AGE 12! It isn't anything new. People are overreacting to all of this. And because of that, the real issues slip by us easily.

Also, your argument about drug use doesn't make to much sense. People will always use drugs. People always have. There have been young smokers for hundreds of years. I'm not saying its good, but the problem isn't getting some much worse that the world will end because of it. If it were up to me, all drugs would be legal, just regulated by the government.

I do agree with what you say about obesity. It will get better though. The sad thing is, while were so fat, kids in third world countries are starving to death. Every couple hours a kid dies of starvation. When our education systems get better though, (the US system sucks lol) people will begin to understand.

The world may be close to ending, but not for any of the reasons you stated. I'd be more worried about our country becoming a dictatorship or nuclear war.

The world isn't done for in the ways you've mentioned. Sex isn't too dangerous. It feels good for a reason. It's natural. If proper contraceptives are used, it's fine and dandy. Overpopulation is bad. Of course, America's growth rate is very slow (despite all the media's messages). In third world countries, nobody can really afford a television to view this suggestive media, yet their populations skyrocket.

Drugs. Those who use them, die. Those who don't, live. Six billion people aren't going to snort crack. A majority knows better, and so their governments. It's the lesser drugs that really bite. But considering the increasing bans and taxes on legal drugs, I see a brighter future here.

Obesity is a good one. Although with current medical technologies (and intervention from awareness groups), we're actually realizing that fat=/=well adaptable. Fat was good when the polar ice caps were thrice as large, but not anymore. I agree that the source of the obesity problem is our "want now, pay later" attitude. This is by far the most dangerous of the points you've mentioned. Each year, we consume the earth's resources an additional three times faster than they can replenish. We're driving thousands of species to extinction (this is the sixth mass extinction). What the hell is life supposed to do when our solar system passes that same rocky patch it passed 65 million years ago? We don't know the meaning of the word "sustainability."

Widespread drug orgies will never be the end of humanity. Sex causes the creation of humans, not their destruction, except in cases where people catch AIDS or do nothing to treat other sexually transmitted diseases, which is rare. The more serious AIDS gets, the more careful people get. It is a threat to each individual, but not to human existence itself. Most people are afraid of the drugs that can kill, and it will always be that way. Obesity is a problem, but there is no way it will ever wipe out all of us. Not even close. I don't even fear an asteroid hitting Earth and wiping out all life. We can blast asteroids before they ever get here. The only two things that actually have me worried about the death of the human race are surprise plagues and nuclear terrorism. I think we are on the edge of being able to kill viruses and bacteria in any form immediately. We will probably see that day in our lifetimes, so chances are that a crazy plague is not going to come out of nowhere and kill us all. But it is a worry for the time being.

Nuclear holocaust is my biggest worry. It was not such a threat from the Soviet Union, and it is not one from China. They want to live. The nightmare the world is facing is Islamofascism. Those nut cases want to kill for highly irrational reasons, and they are perfectly okay with dying to kill innocents in the name of insane relgious ideology. They want to kill people not only for not being Muslims, but for not being their versions of what Muslims are supposed to be. They are never going to stop until the entire world is exactly what they demand. If they ever figure out how to make nukes in mass quantities or get a government to do that for them, we are flat out fucked. That is a world threat if there ever was one. The only solution I know of is to do everything we can to clean up the Middle East so it will stop being a shit hole as soon as possible.

I wouldn't worry too much about drugs, sex, and food. People usually try to use them in a way that doesn't damage their lives and they usually do a pretty good job of it. Try not to let people sell you a message of fear and your life will be much less stressfull.

Smoking some reefer wouldn't hurt either.
