This phenomenon is known by some people as a pattern trance. It often occurs when a person is engaged in an activity that is routine or very familiar to them.A perfect example is driving. I drive the same rout to work and back every day. It's a 15-20 minute drive. On occasion, I drive this without even realizing it. Before I know it, I'm at my desk in my office, or I'm at home sitting down. Exactly as Xei said, I remember going through the motions of the activity, I just wasn't necessarily conscious while doing it.

This also happens with Cashiers. They are in a routine. A pattern. It is interesting to think that we are not aware most of our lives, and that's true I think. Well I don't know about most of our lives, but certainly a large portion of it. This is also how social engineers do their work. Find someone who is in a trance, snap them out of it, and speak to their subconscious mind in the one or 2 second window when it will be attentive. Scary how unaware we really are.

It's like being in the zone, right? Something talked about before in another thread, in connection with sports. Getting into a trance with a certain rutine. It's like in "The last samurai", when they tell Cruise to have "No mind" when fighting .

I can't quite explain it but it feels very similar to being on LSD, when I did that about 3 years ago, this 1 moment during the 'trip' I felt like I just flipped an auto-pilot switch and just let myself go.

I had a wonderful time in acid-induced-autopilot, but this also happens when sober as a judge, or a priest (w/e your preference).

Anyone else get this sensation? If I just let my mind wander and relax my muscles, my mind takes me to such strange places with interesting feelings and emotions.

Wow I sure am in a thoughtful mood today, quite contrast to my ranting angry mood from yesterday.
yeah this happens to me sometimes. i don't know why.

I feel like I'm on autopilot all the time, except when I'm talking to people or doing something interesting like gaming or reading..

Are you serious? You see this in dreams or irl?

You'd be in deep trouble if you weren't on autopilot.

I feel like notice when im on auto-pilot when in track, during warm-up and stretching. I realize im just doing the same thing over again and over again. luckly tracks over and now have 2 more hours of free time. its interesting though how so many people get caught up in this. maybe every day you should do something differant.
