      no ALIEN???

      I read the topic about aliens by Andromeda and i thought this deserves an own topic. I do think there is some cool alien people out there and I hope that we will find them some day. But now to my question: what if there is no aliens out there in our little universe? What if we in the distant future, say 10 000 years from now, still are looking for some alien dudes to have a cup of tee with? What if when we have learned to travel the universe still cant find any foregin races? What if we are doomed to search for them til the end of time??
      I think it is a really depressing thought...

      It's extremely unlikely that there is no other intelligent life out there.

      There are billions of galaxies each containing billions of stars. Recent estimates are that about 5-10% of stars have a solar system around them. Thats a heck of a lot of planets. Even if only 0.001% of them have life, thats still a ton of life.

      Not necessarily christianity...you still got islamics for example who will be completely content with no other forms of alien life.

      It will be depressing to find no other forms of life. But if here's a radical thought.

      If we have the technology, as you mentioned, to travel the depths of space and actually be able to look for other life, and we dont find it...then we'll be able to start habitating other nice planets similar to earth.

      Then with a little change in culture, we'll start to have evolution of people since they start to adjust to the new gravities and other things. And then, eventually, humans will essentially create aliens since the evolved races of humans are living on other planets.

      What if there are aliens and this is how it started...I really don't believe it, but I think it's very possible.

      thats a cool thought thomaselen. what if a colony was lost or forgotten and then thousands of years later, when they have evolved to somethin complete different, were to be found by the real human race. anything could happen. its almost like that movie planet of the apes.

      or aliens landed on our planet exploring it, deeming it unfit for their purposes, leaving a couple of germs behind that barely survived and WHAMMO life started on earth.

      Maybe their home planets and shit are all behind the galactic core so we cant detect their signals and other stuff... Sadly it'd take a couple of thousand years i think before we can zoom around our galaxy. .

      i think that too... just imaging, we are the masters of the universe, able to control stars, to create worlds, to travel where we want to...

      My dad keeps mentioning "the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy" and he says I should read it because parts of it could be true...

      Maybe we are the ones to travel space and invade other races just because they sent out a signal wanting to meet up with some aliens. That would be ironic.

      Hey CT, even though you were joking, your theory has actually been suggested in the form of Panspermia.

      That theory suggests that space debris from planets that contain life somehow made it to earth and crashed. Bacteria mostly. Most don't believe in the above mode of life creation, but it has gathered some support. Mainly, bacteria has been known to survive in the harshest of conditions of cold and heat. In addition, scientists just recently revived a twenty five million or so old piece of bacteria that was imbedded in a salt crystal. The flaws in the theory include the destructive nature of comsic radiation that is concentrated throughout space, as well as the distance between earth and some other inhabited planet. It may have taken billions of years for a piece of bacteria to have survived it's journey through space, came in at the correct angle and position, and crashed into the earth. Given the estimates of the age of our sun and the age of life on earth, this is highly unlikely.

      And life have great conditions to be created here on earth so why would it come from somewhere else..?

      Interesting. We could be the spawns of another alien species, that have been here much longer, and can come back from time to time and check on us (abductions, ect.) Because they will have the technology to do so.

      Another theory is that the stereotypical "alien" with big eyes, large head, etc is actually humans from far into the future. What we have evolved into (as predicted by scientists) coming back to do research (historians, etc.) Time travellers from the very far future, possibly post-earth. Aliens on other planets would evolve through natural selection to where they are built to survive their environment the best, so more than likely, they will look nothing like us.
