      which category are you?

All through life we are forced to assume an identity. Since birth we are told "you have to accomplish x thing to be somebody."

I've been noticing recently how I take on different roles in life. When i'm with my friends i become the guy they are friends with. At home I'm the youngest sibling. On youtube i am "that guitarist guy". All those are things i have worked on. however if i wear a woolen sweater to the local pub I am labelled a "fag". If i wear an Iron Maiden shirt to a party I am somehow a metal head, even though i don't have long hair and prance around giving everyone the devil sign as if it's the metal sign for "peace". If i chew gum with my mouth open and a high maintainance woman spots me in those first few seconds of chewing, she labels me a "creep" (that last one i did not make up).

I've been thinking about how fast we label ourselves and other people. I've come to realise tho, that I am none of these things really. Iron maiden may be a band i like, but that doesn't mean I'm a metal freak. I wear a woolen sweater because it keeps me warm, not because i have a metrosexual fashion statement to make. I play guitar for the sheer enjoyment of it not because i want to make it big. And the only reason i chew that gum loud is because I haven't had a smoke all day and the gum i'm chewing just happens to be filled with nicotine, so that doesn't make em an inbred with no etiquette.

on sexuality. if i really wanted to, i could screw guys like no tomorrow. But i don't, Why? because i like women more. That doesn't make me hetero stricly. that just means at the end of the night, if there was a hot guy with a fem bottom trying to drag me to his place and also a super hot japanese chick lying about how old she is with fake id and the like, I'd choose the japanese girl fasho! Does that make me bi? no, eitherwise i'd take em both home. What does that make me then? not a label of bi, gay, or straight. That just makes me a person of choice. I choose what i like here and now until over time when my tastes change. because they do.

Believe me I don't have an identity crisis. they say by your twenties you've already figured out who you are. Who am I then? I have no idea, and frankly i don't care because who i am Is who i choose to be. I am therefore i am. What Am i? the only thing i am 75% sure about is that I am alive and i have a penis.

So don't put me in one of your stupid categories or I will suprise and even challenge your label everytime.

Apparently the generation after us will be much more label-free... and here I thought we were so progressive and shit. Anyway, I was reminded of a book called, "The New Gay Teenager." The essential point was that eventually not only will labels like "gay," "straight," and "bi" be thrown out, but even things such as the Kinsey Scale. I'm 1 on the Kinsey Scale, you are 3. What? Fuck that. No scale. No labels of any kind. Nothing is categorized. You just are.

I don't see why some people have to label themselves 'anti-label' all the time. It's perfectly clear that any label people put on people has no intrinsic value. Labeling is just some high school stuff that hangs with some people. It's human nature, partly.

Well I'm going to hate labels just so I don't conform to the new anti-nonlabeling bandwagon you've started.

I'm known as different labels, because even though I am the same person, I fit into many different spots. I am labeled by what is different between me and the rest of the people in the surrounding group.

I am tall, so people think of me as a tall guy. If I joined a group where everyone was as tall or taller than me, I would be known by another distinction, because that is how we identify people in a group.

technically i'm not jumping on any band wagon. This is a conclusion i have come to based on my own experience. In fact no one has ever told me to not conform or to not label. Some labels are appropriate. but why do people go to such extremism with them?

It pisses me off when people think I'm stupid just becouse I can act like a child soemtimes. It seems like only my friends & family understand. I'm NOT a idiot just becouse of the way I express myself. I may act like a child in some cases, but that is because I live life on impulse. I have a lively soul, but that does not make me stupid. People judge me just beouse I'm funny.
They don't understand that I'm actully very smart. I'm on the A-B honor roll right now.

Why can’t life be like in the fairy tales? It’s always happily ever after, and entirely black and white. There are no unresolved characters because, in the end, the bad guy is defeated and the hero and heroine live happily ever after.

The only label I have is my name.

And if labels had any affect, approximately every man on Earth is homosexual.

There is no such thing as a straight man...

      But anyways.

Categories are necessary for everyone really.

You brought up homosexuality in the OP. Imagine if no one labeled themselves that way. Perhaps you think homosexual means "wearing a sweater" or whatever to everyone else, but in reality homosexual merely means liking the same sex only. If no one labeled themselves bi, straight, or homosexual how would we know who is available? Back in the old days before Internet and open gay groups homosexuals had to communicate via secret ways just to let others know they were gay without going to freaking jail. My grandfather used to attack homosexuals and steal their money and they "couldn't do anything." As my grandfather said. Fucking asshole.

There is nothing that corresponds to being gay aside from liking the same sex. There are a quite a few things that only gay people might admit to liking because of the stigma (plays for example, which don't get me wrong there are some nice plays but I usually hate them, or musicals Erk.) but there is nothing inherently gay about wanting to be a male ballerina or whatever it is called and wanting to be I dunno...a female carpenter.

I would say I were bi if I could even get an errection looking at a woman...but I can't...so I'm not. lol. I've never tried being intimate with one though...maybe I could do it physically with them and just seeing them isn't enough, I dunno.

I pondered that about guys once or twice, but thinking about being intimate makes me even more turned off so yeah, it just ain't happening tonight Charlie. I don't know what'd I do if I went to prison. Probably exactly what I do now, actually, which is just masturbate a lot.

But there's something I innately need in women that I don't in men, and that about solves the equation for me. I feel nothing for the majority of girls but every few days I'll see one that I just have to have and that's never happened with a guy.

Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.

that's great. I have the same dilemma. people think I'm dumb because I don't act exactly like a smart person MUST act.

People usually think I'm smart until they get to know me. It pisses me off, I'm a total fucking idiot in reality but I come off like I know what I'm talking about just because I have some words. Then, it's like there's expectations of myself imposed by others that I can't reach. I don't know, everyone sees so much more potential in me than I do.

Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.

I'm the exact opposite. People think I'm retarded or something and look at me like I'm an idiot until they actually talk to me. then they run around the bar going "hey this guy is smart. he's so great" and i just smile like an idiot.

And keep in mind om, You are the one who LABELED me a non conforming conformist. I just simply stated i am who i am.

It is funny how we attempt to sum people up in categories like we do everything else in life. Essentially none of it works except to familiarize ourselves with commonalities and likely outcomes. This is not a bad thing until we forget WHY we are labeling. When the label becomes the object in our mind, there is a problem, and truth is lost.

It is natural to assume and to categorize, but one must be aware of ones own thoughts so that they may control them rather then the reverse. This awareness is the issue.

I am still trying to figure out who I am, and still realizing how pointless it all is. In society's eyes I am nobody. I know different of course.
