What happened before you were born?

If there is an after-life, was there a pre-life? If I don't remember that one, will I remember this life when I die and go to the after-life? I find it hard to believe that I simpily did not exist, spiritually, physically, at all. Where did myself come from, my ideas and thoughts?

By far, Mothra (in all of it's forms) is the worst kaiju of all time.

Truthfully, I just thought about this, then my brain started to hurt and all I did was end up confusing myself...

I guess I could say that all your ideas and thoughts are made up as you grow up from the things you see and learn...but other than that, I've got nothing.

I always tend to tie this into free will, but I don't know how. Let my write down my thoughts and see where I go.

Let's say nothing happened before I was born.

That means I am a purely physical being.

'Spiritual' is just the product of thought, which is the product of the mind, which is mental, which is a 'sub genre' of physical.

So all I do is the end result, with 'physical' being the first domino. So I have no soul, and this is the by-product of physical settings playing out.

So I can think, but it is physical and thus not spiritual, which doesn't exist.

I think I fucked up somewhere in there, that last part did not make sense.

I think about this all the time, for awhile I couldn't imagine not existing, but I convinced myself it is possible because of what happened before I was born.

The answer is simply nothing, and even if you believe in a before life, you have to go even further back to before life came about.

It's clear that your consciousness and hence your 'soul' as you know it was mostly formed through childhood, so to say that it existed in any form before you were born would require some ludicrous explanation involving time travel.

      Noodly appendages.

      1. Too bad. You didn't exist.

      2. You came from Mommy and Daddy.

      3. They come from your mind, inside your cerebellum.

It is not possible to exist as nothing, so there are two options
      - existence is still possible, just in another "world" (heaven)
      - existence is just not possible

Many people are convinced the first choice is the only valid option.

Interestingly many religions don't address the idea of a "pre-life." Hinduism is one that does.

From a subjective perspective, to speak of a time before you were born makes no sense. Time is an attribute of conscious experience. If we were not conscious, time would have no meaning for us as we would have no changing experiences to reference. Even if we had past and future lives we would not be able to say that they followed in any particular sequence unless we retained some memory or character of being from one life to another which is apparently not the case. So instead of talking about past lives and future lives we should talk about "other lives".

The issue I'm struggling with is whether saying that other people have conscious experiences like yourself is any different from saying that those other people are "other lives" in the sense that a past life is an "other life". I really don't see any difference there. Another way of stating the question would be: Are there multiple consciousnesses or just one? Assuming the single consciousness doesn't retain memories from other lives, those two positions don't have any phenomenal differences. That is, whether there is one consciousness or a multiplicity of consciousnesses, any single consciousness will experience things the same way. The distinction is essentially meaningless as they both describe the same thing: a collection of experiences some connected by memory to one another(one life) and others connected by memory to others(a different life). Given this situation I think it's better to say there is one consciousness because you avoid the problem of having to delineate one consciousness from another. You could say that each memory-connected "cluster" of experiences is one consciousness, but it seems to be an arbitrary place to draw the line and it certainly doesn't jibe with our common-sense notion of identity. When we forget something we did we don't assume that another consciousness was inhabiting our body. It would make more sense to say that there is one consciousness that experiences all real experiences.

It's quite late and this is a difficult subject to write about so forgive me if it's hard to understand.

      Reincarnation...

Where we came from originally is like a worldwind, i believe i was already here before i was born and i will still be here after my physical body dies...your soul/spirit carries on forever and is the one with all the information, some of it it keeps hidden, your subconscience...who are you, what is real? Did you just start living or...is it all in your head...think where that can take you.

Sadly, you'll only know when you die.
& if it does turn out that we are just decomposing cells & nothing more after that, then no one will ever know.

I believe that since theres no way to prove anything, my mind is open to all sorts of ideas (but I'll never be so cocky as to say an afterlife theory definetely without a doubt is or isn't true)

One of my theories is that we're just energy that excapes from our bodies and goes elsewhere afterwards. It would explain ghosts and a lot of other odd phenominon.

I certainly hope there isn't such a thing as re-incarnation, because that would mean every life is such a waste.

Almost like a Lucid Dream that you can't remember, no?

I like to think I have a limited amount of life, therefore the moments I spend are more meaningful and precious...

Also, I've been into existentialism & things about dimensions (like 4th dimension time travel, and the tenth dimension as our figurative "God") Basically, the conclusion I've deducted (but dont put entire faith into) is that nothing is real, this is all an illusion. Technically the past does not exist because its only in our memories, a bunch of other loopholes and things like that. Its hard to explain exactly how "we dont exist but we're concious" makes sense without going in depth with all the research I've been doing... In a way though, that can be comparible to lucid dreaming as well.

Who the hell knows. Maybe life is just one long dream -_-

Everything seems to connect so easily with the theory that consciousness is the source of energy and matter.

Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.

      Where did myself come from?
Your dad blew his load in your mother and 8 months later you came out.

Where did my ideas and thoughts come from?

I don't think life was designed so that we could concern ourselves with the afterlife while living life. And if you want a Christian answer, even Jesus said "Don't worry about tomorrow

if you are interested, there are many people today talking about pre-life

even going so far as to say you choose when to be born, what country to be apart of, and what family to be born into. you even choose who your friends, lovers and even future children will be

your life review at death is a review of what you accomplished in life, in comparison to what you wanted to accomplish - and not what some other heavenly being wanted of you

Wait, if we lived "other" lives before our current one, then what about going to heaven and whatching over the ones you love. Would'nt you be in your next life or something.

Pre-life and after-life alike, are both superstitious, pretentious bull. You and I were both dead for trillions and trillions of years before you were born, and vica-versa, you will be dead for trillions and trillions of years after you die. Do you remember experiencing anything before you were born? Did you ever suffer from any inconveniences? No. You didn't. You need a conscience to experience things, and the only way to have a conscience is if you are living. Your consciousness is a product of your brain activity. When you die, you will have no consciousness. It will cease to exist and you will cease to exist, also.

And the only time we return to consciousness is in a x amount of years when our particles reassimilate into something with a consciousness?

While not in this mind, you are not apart of time. Afterlife and prelife are one and the same.

Yea on the same note, I'd like to add something. I too believe all is consciousness. Scientists have been trying to find the building block of all matter, and it just keeps changing and they keep moving towards that final answer that no one wants to believe. WHy?

Because consciousness is the building block of matter.....thoughts and ideas.

Now according to science, and a theory that states, everything in our reality is an illusion. The whole universe, all matter, etc, is an illusion. Just our brains projecting what we all "perceive" is there. We're all just one big consciousness and we built our own universe. We defined our own reality.

I think the key is is interconnection. We all heard of the big bang...so we ALL...EVERYTHING..all of us, came from one little single particle. We're all really interconnected......LIKE ONE BIG HUGE MIND.

So you can guess what that would mean if that theory is true. We create our own reality. All of this, everything we perceive, is a result of minds thinking alike.

As far as where do we go when we die, it really believe in the astral plane. It just seems so possible. You guys see how powerful thoughts are, like lucid dreaming.

Scientists have that theory saying everything is made up of vibrating energy frequencies. Just as there are different frequencies for sound 16hz, 32hz, etc. energy has different frequencies. And when we die, whatever frequency your inner self is tuned at, that's where your consciousness goes.

      Well hello there outspoken atheist!

I shake my head at everyone here who came out with the typical 'you came from ma and pa' and 'yurr thoughts n ideas come from yurr braaaainn' response. Clever as hell, guys, do some real thinking.

Why are you you? Why isn't your body actually the host to another conscious person/entity/being? How come everyone here is so fortunate to actually be living their life? I find it perplexing how I am who I am where I am and what I am... and why my mind is the mind I control (or vice-versa). Why do I think and create and learn and talk the way I do?

Before the smartasses keep coming back with the response I'm expecting to see, keep asking why.

Before people are born they wake up in super satanic personalities within personalities and show up to give form within others. There's no such thing as life before death because the conception is purely unphysical to our very own eye lids. You cannot see it, therefore it doesn't exist.

So your really talking about nothing.
