      Afterlife Idea

Here's an idea for an afterlife that might actually motivate people to enjoy their lives on Earth more: After you die, you get reborn back into your body as a baby and live your life through exactly the same way. This of course woud go on infinitely. I know it isn't a very comforting idea for people, but it would provide an incentive to improve your life and would give everything you do an eternal significance.

Not that I can prove this or anything, but it's an interesting thought.

No, reincarnation is being born in a different body at a different time.

      Damn it! I killed flanders!

I think the 'when' of reincarnation depends on who you ask. Some people say it's at a later time, others say it could be at any point in time, past, present or future.

Not that I believe in reincarnation, but if I did, I think I'd go with the latter idea.

It would be the ultimate irony if we end up being reincarnated as everything that ever lived; this would include everything we've ever harmed.

Negative, life is never lived the same way twice.
This was that cult, and the prisoners said it had always existed and always would exist, hidden in distant wastes and dark places all over the world until the time when the great priest Cthulhu, from his dark house in the mighty city of R'lyeh under the waters, should rise and bring the earth again beneath his sway.

Ok, I must have just had a mis-understanding of recincarnation.

mmk, so, you start out with the exact same living conditions as the first time you were born except with whatever progress was made in your lifetime? ex: first humans born in a cave, make fire, make huts...die and born again but this time in a hut but with the same personality and goals as when they died?

Reincarnation is a superstitious paradox. If reincarnation tells us that when you die, you are born into a different body, a different consciousness. Well, that would mean that you would need to change the definition of "you". So in fact, it's not actually you, it must be a different person. It contradicts itself. Am I the only person that has thought of that? Personally, I think reincarnation is a bunch of shit. If reincarnation were a reality, shouldn't you have memories of before you were born? And if you don't, I think it is safe to say that you won't have any memories of previous lives in ANY life. It's a bunch of superstitious bull. When you die, you simply cease to exist. You have no consciousness to experience anything at all. Personally, I am not afraid of death AT ALL. I was dead for billions of years before I was born and I never suffered the slightest inconvenience from it.

The idea is that your awareness remains, but your memories go. Like amnesia. When people loose their memories, are they a different person? That is open to debate.

Not that this was the idea of this thread, but this is kind of what I view Karma to be. Karma isn't some magical force, it is simply the fact that any harm you do to others you are doing to yourself in a past/future life.

I think the concept of time breaks down when you don't have any memory to reference(after you die). I don't think that lives would have to follow in any particular sequence. I view the lives of all conscious beings as being experienced by the same consciousness. Outside the frames of reference of those lives time really doesn't exist.

No, the original idea in this thread was that when you die you forget everything and are reborn at the beginning of your life and you live it the exact same way as you lived it before. Knowing this, a person knows that whatever action he takes will be repeated over and over again infinitely, giving all of his actions an eternal significance.

Indeed it is. I think this deserves a thread in itself!

      The Real World

When I was about 15 my brother came over to my house and gave me some weed to smoke. It was night time. After smoking I went into the living room were my brother was playing video games. I was standing by the fire stove looking down at the logs and I started to recite lines from what seemed like something I had said many times before. Oh Shit Here We Go Again, from that point on everything seemed like it had happened before. I started acting out a scene from the worst movie I have ever seen and the star was me. All I Could do is watch. The movie was about my choice to smoke pot and how I live my over and over again until I make the right choice. Which is not to smoke pot. It honestly felt like it was the sixteenth time I had lived and that it was my actually hell. I no longer believe in this stuff. And I sure as HELL dont want to think it's really and If you have gone through what I have gone through you wouldn't even have posted your ridiculous idea. I almost killed my self thinking I would start over, and of course I wanted to because the point of the reality was that the longer I waited to do so the harder it would be to remember that I had to change next time and now I can almost gurantee that we never live again. That's how powerful your brain truly is. Don't do Drugs. Thinking you live again controls your brain and will eventually make your life seem dull and pointless take it from someone who has been to the deepest depths of what living again could truly mean. Assuming Karma is real, and not just people thinking too much. I've seen karma work, once this guy grabbed my food from me, then he sat down and missed the chair and fell to the floor as i told him "karma", or it could have happened because it was going to happen in the first place and our actions mean nothing in terms of what happens next.

I have always wondered that. Perhaps you die, then maybe right away or billions of years later you wake up again, but your sight is not of the previous life, because there was no previous life. What you see is as real as everyone else, you are not of the past, you are you of now. The universe recycles everything, but the only part it recycles is "you", not anything else, just you, the one who views this moment. Everything about "you" is changed, you are a brand new person, everything about you is BRAND new. While the universe recycles itself, the only thing it recycles of you, is just your view of everything. There is no previous life, because you are brand new, the only thing that is the same is your view of everything.

The life cycles is an instant, you can die and be reborn a new you right away or billions of years later or more but from the time you close your eyes to the time you open them is an instant, because time does not exist in this process. it's like when you go under the knife for surgery, from when you start counting down, to the point you wake up is not even a second. Time does not exist. it's not even black, it's just like blinking. You are there, then you are here.

      Yeah

Yes it was marijuana and it felt like every moment of my life led to that point in time. I think it is more possible that I thought I was going to die on it and needed to give my life a good ending. I'm now starting to think that I have been in the part of my brain that controls what happens when your about to die. But I'm still alive. And it might have had something to do with killing myself and how horrible that would be. Because if you take your own life your mind will never agree.

Sounds like you have some repressed issues.
