What thread?
I see a thread, but in reality it's just a bunch of 0s and 1s put together in such a way as to form the illusion of a thread. This illusion has been placed in a collective reality known as the internet so that multiple people can share in this illusion like some sort of toy. However, eventually it will fall into the depths of the archives and exist only as a memory. And furthermore, it will be such a minute, unimportant memory that it will probbaly rarely be remembered again, and those who do remember it will be called crazy and asked to prove it existed in tnhe first place. They will search for this thread to ressurect it, without realizing a Mod actually deleted it because Wanted's newest account posted some child pornography and thus won't be able to prove it's existence, proving it doesn't exist.
Does an idea exist?
An idea exists as electrons firing between neurons, according to the current conclusion by the scientific community. Therefore, as a person who's particles are constantly flickering in and out of existence, I exist as much as an idea, but in a more solidified vibration, and for a longer period of time. But if time is endless, then lengths of time are meaningless, and if the universe is infinite, then size is meaningless too.
It exists as it is. It doesn't need any justification of what it is made up of or why it is here. This thread is its own identity, part of the whole forum. There's no argument over virtual, physical or visual existence. Thread, by its self-definition, exists as it is.
What if the processor took the same bit data that makes up this thread and used it to generate a different program? Then does it still exist? This other program would function differently and doesn't look anything like this thread.
It's not about the code. It's about us percieving the thread. The moment you stop doing that for one reason or the other - it stops existing.
Hmm, in a way you're right too. There are different kinds of existence. This thread can exist mentally or physically.
The thread exists physically in the database, but also mentally in our minds.
Well yes. Either objectively, where this thread is actualy a code which creates a specific pattern of pixels to light up. Or subjectively, where this thread has a virtual existence.
It's the same with chairs or whatever humans actually detect. That's why I oppose the "intelligent design thing" as a scientific theory.
For all practical purposes in my life, this thread exists.
I haven't read anything in here, but I assume that people have already had fun toying with the definition of thread.
What thread?
Nothing is self-evident for me.

And, as Bonsay noted- it will no longer exist once I finish posting and leave. The MEMORY of it will give me the impression of it ever existing at all from then on... until I come back. Which I probably won't do :P
I have faith that this thread exists...so I guess that means it exists! I love reality!
Does internet porn exist? I think you all know the answer to that question.
took me a while but i got there.
What you are really challenging is your own existence. I know in my mind that I posted this thread, 'I think therefore i am.'
Think - thought - is - was
It is all wide-open gaps of misinterpretation and fact.
It's a bunch of elektrons. An elektron is energy. The universe is energy.
If the universe exists, this thread exists.
Does the universe exist? And what if it doesn't?
reality and existance is relative.
theres no way to prove is real and theres no way to prove we are real
