Do you believe in "doomsday"?
I believe in astronomy. Galactic planes aligning with the sun and this rock planet doesn't mean shit to me, though.
Anymore 2012 threads result in a ban. This is my will.

Wrong forum ?
sorry :( You can just delete this thread.
I think your thread would be equally at home here or in Extended Discussion. Please excuse Omicron.
Guys, the Philosophy forum is a place for intellectual discussion. If you don't have something relevant and useful to contribute, then don't post. Those of you taking the OP's question seriously, carry on.
According to the Hopi, Inca, Maya, Kabbalist, Iroquois, Dogon's, and tens of other cultures...we are currently in the time of "Great forgetting" where mankind goes through an "amnesia" about who they are and where they come from and their relationship to nature. From this amnesia springs forth fear, and the desire to dominate and control others. The ancient (and no so ancient) cultures above all have their predictions regarding 2012, all of them ironically are quite similar. To sum it up, in the years leading up to 2012, they see economies crumbling as the petty mind of dominating men tries to keep what little thoughts of "control" they have. They also believe that this is a time of great transfiguration within the earth. It just so happens that this rare galactic alignment that will happen on 12/21/2012 happens ever 26,000 years. Interestingly enough, 26,000 years is a higher octave of 260. 260 being the days of the human gestation cycle. The Mayans called their time scale "Natural time". The Mayan's were gifted with their knowledge of the stars and constellations...there is no disagreement among star gazers today that the Mayans were incredibly ahead of their time. Afterall, we have giant telescopes...to the best of our knowledge...they didn't. Anyway, to sum it up, these cultures foresee a time of great transformation upon the Earth. A purification process, if you will. Some see this as a spiritual transformation and others see it as us (homo-sapiens) dying out in mass with signs showing it. Signs like our ever increasing barrier around the earth is weakening while the each summer we're having is recorded to be severely hotter than the last. Another doom and gloom argument that some hardcore 2012'ers believe is that another race of humans will spring up, much much smarter than homo-sapiens...humans v.2 :P Because about 26,000 years ago, the neanderthals disappeared and cro-magnon man sprang up. I hope this helps.
Population control?
I would like to see the physical explanation of how an alignment of the Earth, sun, and galactic centre will cause damage to the Earth. Keep in mind, I have studied physics and already know that tidal forces at the distance we're talking about have zero effect. Good luck.
By the way, I expect to see MATH. Wordy word vomit won't cut it.
http://www.intomobile.com/2007/03/22...ar-storms.html is one thing.

hmmm... It is definitely NOT Armageddon as explained in the Bible ( if you are Christian or believe in it ) Because it says "Christ will come as a thief in the night" and no one can predict it.
This is true, of course, about the solar cycles. It has nothing to do with the calendar year; it happens from time to time. And it also has nothing to do with the galactic centre.
If you don't want to be affected by the MAGNETIC STORM OF DEATH!!! then I would suggest wrapping your sensitive electronics (and your head) in tin foil. This will create a Faraday cage that completely cancels out all external energy.
Why come on a lucid dreaming forum asking for proof and the mathematical connection between the 2012 alignment and the earth? You'd be better off going to a 2012 website (there are a ton of them) and asking them to present to you hardcore evidence in terms of math and physics. Not a lucid dreaming website. After all, they vehemently believe in it.
Another bit of information concerning the 2012 ordeal:
I've heard a few times about something called a "polar inversion", which is when the north and south magnetic poles swap places. It's an event that appears to have happened before and from the looks of it we may be due for a new one. Now, I've also heard that the Earth's magnetic field has slowly been weakening, and I wonder if that's the prelude to the inversion.
The effects of an inversion technologically would be immense. Airplanes getting lost in air as GPS goes heywire, all electronic devices being affected negatively. And from what I remember (courtesy of History Channel, if that's of any authority), that could cause the crust of the Earth to likewise flip, causing natural disasters like crazy.
It does happen, but the magnetic record has many ups and downs. Saying that a recent down indicates a near future flip is like checking the humidity outside your house to predict a hurricane.
Airplanes navigate by compass and radio for the most part, and important radio equipment is shielded. Some electronic devices may arc, but that's only if the sun decides to send out a flare at the exact same time. Otherwise, nothing would happen. There's also evidence that during every pole shift, the atmosphere naturally sets up its own magnetic field for the interim.
As for the crust of the Earth, that is complete and utter bullshit. You gotta be the dumbest person alive to believe that magnetic fields have ANY effect whatsoever on the tectonic plates. For god's sake, the Earth's normal magnetic field is 100 times weaker than a fridge magnet...
Such decimal chauvinism is about as bad as the oppressive Catholics with their radical geocentricism.
They were wrong then, you are wrong now.
PS. I will place bets on this for unlimited sums of money.
Let's see that, then. How much are we talking?
I bet Xei £5
i agree with him
but its funny.
Take your pick. I'll bet any sum at any odds. Note that the product of your odds and your sum will be taken to be indicative of your faith.Quote:

Done. :DQuote:

Fantastiche.
So you'd be willing to bet upwards of 50 000 pounds + your college education?Quote:

Yes.
Imo, 2012 is a self-fulfilling prophecy. The more people who believe in it, the more likely it will become true.
