      The question of fate.

I didnt know if this belonged in the self help section or not, but it felt like a philosophical question to me. First, some back ground.

I am currently in my third year of college and when Im not busy doing school work (electrical engineering major) or practicing martial arts I seem to find myself deep in thought. After the past few months there has been a growing feeling inside of me of not feeling fulfilled in what I do. I set goals for myself and most people think its great that I succeed in them, such as staying on the dean's list every semester of school or getting better at a particular skill set in mixed martial arts..but, whenever I achieve these goals sure I may feel a little happy, but for some reason I dont feel like I have accomplished anything shortly after. I feel like Im just kind of floating from one goal to the next, not really doing anything.

I first noticed this when my parents were so proud of me graduating high school and getting my college acceptance letter...but I didnt feel very excited or like I really did anything spectacular, it was just another phase of life to me.

So, that brings me to the question of fate. A lot of times this feeling translates in to the feeling of waiting for something to come, although I never sit stagnant or always try to keep moving, on the inside it still feels like Im waiting for something. I have always been a big believer in free will and making your life what you want it to be, but it seems like what I think I want it to be doesnt make me feel accomplished.

Have you had the same kind of feelings as me? If so, what did you do about it? Or, in a broader sense is there a way to simply make one feel like they have found their calling instead of believe fate has something in store?

I can relate. I feel like this all the time.

But I have decided that my calling is not to accomplish a certain task but rather in the accomplishing itself. To not only find my limits, but to push them. No, I probably can't do everything, but I'll be damned if I don't spend the rest of my life trying to become better.

To find joy in the act of accomplishing makes you great.

To find joy in what you have accomplished makes you nostalgic.

I have thought of this as well, but it doesnt really bring me much comfort. In the scheme of things life too is an accomplishment in progress where someone doesnt want to reach the accomplishment...death. So, I should enjoy the progress of goals just as I enjoy life, but for some reason for me its easier said than done, though it could just be a mental training of some kind perhaps.

My answer to the question of fate: There is no question. Think about it. If fate did exist, free will would not exist, meaning you're not really choosing the ask the question.

The other angle, and probably closer to what you meant, was an external meaning of life. You seem open minded enough to watch these videos without having a temper tantrum, which is what happens to most sheeple when they're faced with the truth.

actually, I have been through the whole thought process presented in those videos already. Ive rejected those kind of lables, in fact I really hate them. The problem that I face is, now what? how can I find what makes me happy enough to not want to question life?

What's with the fixation on being happy? (Must your goal be total happiness? Can you not feel happy without completing some expected goal?) Why not question life?

So, I should enjoy the progress of goals just as I enjoy life.
      You should.

Find a purpose. Something to fight for. Something that you can work towards but have no hope of accomplishing in your life time. Something to pass down to the next generation.

see that's one of the whole reasons I started this thread. For some people, searching for meaning may in fact be a deficiency of being happy. But honestly, I really enjoy such things as nature walks or reading a good book. The problem comes with not feeling like Im going any place with all the work Im doing I guess, and it makes me second guess if what Im doing is what I should be doing.
