      Honestly? I really don't know.

I was pondering this a few nights ago and all I could come to was the conclusion that I'm pretty much satisfied in my current place in life. The only thing I could think of that I would *really* love about this would be that I can effectively drop out of college, forget math for the rest of my life, and just live off the billion. I could keep it sustained through investments and essentially never work a day in my life. I'd probably take all that time not spent working and do constructive things, like inventing, creating, exploring. Just really pursue my real dreams that were made unrealistic because of the lack of money or lack of potential to earn money. In particular, pursue being a well-known comedian I'd love to be someday.

      Edit: fuck my web browser.

Or take the easy route: installing Opera

With a billion dollars I'd definitely use some of it for toilet paper and install a water fountain that let's out blue mountain dew.

I'd find somewhere realtively remote and set up my own community. Much like the one evisaged in Island. The money would be used to set up the community, and then import anything we needed from then on until the point that we were self suffiicient. Money wouldn't be used in the community so I would have very little use for whatever I had had left.

I rather it in pounds, but if it's doLOLars then so be it.

I would fly to the moon.
I would keep about 50 million for myself/family
I would donate the rest, a million at a time, on a first come, first served basis to employees at my company, and then see how it copes with no staff LOL

Can't think of much else. Buy a mountain in the alpes just for me to snowboard on.

      Will re-visit later.

I would start off by giving some of my money to some of my family members like my mother, aunt, grandmother, and grandfather. Since my mother is one of the most important person in my life I would give her the most which would probably be around 50 million dollars. I'd give the rest of my family members who I listed each 10 million dollars or so. After that, I'd donate some money towards charities who help people in need and to research that are trying to find a cure for a disease. Next, I would begin to save some money for university/college starting with one million dollars. Then I'd put some money aside for when I turn 18 for a tubal ligation. The rest of the money I would use to make investments with such as one for a house that uses solar power energy, a trip around the world, and my dream cars.
Lucid dreaming makes for a wonderful night's play.

I would probably give about £20,000 to my parents so that they can pay off their mortgage and then give the rest to charity as I want to make a lot of money through starting a business and starting with a billion pounds would feel like cheating.

I would probably invest in green energies like solar plants, water treatment plants and desalination plants in Northern Africa, i would also invest/research in alternative forms of agriculture and water management based on the example of Israel, then after i built an infrastructure similar to Western Europe i would begin investing in the Super Grid which would connect Africa and Europe.

The Super Grid would be my legacy. I would also be a business man basically and invest in projects that i fancy and basically make tons of money but at the same time make a difference in the world. (ideally)

Would you help stimulate the economy in some way? Would you just want to live off of the interest? Would you donate a bunch of the money to charitable causes?

I'd love to hear your thoughts. =D
When I started practicing Creative Visualization, I tried to imagine what I would do with a large sum of money! It was a lot harder than a thought. And while so many of you sound so assure of yourselves, I don't think any of you really fathom just how much money one billion is!!

      With ONE MILLION I can:
-Pay off my student and car loans $30,000
-Buy a new more eco friendly car $20,000
-Get another degree just for the hell of it $50,000
-Design/Build the home of my dream. $300,000
A sustainable-permaculture type home. I can talk about my home for hours!
-Buy a new car for each of my family members - so four more eco friendly cars $80,000
-Pay off any debt in the family $150,000
      - Send both of my parents back to school to keep their minds working $100,000
      - Give each family member (4) play money to spend as they desire $200,000 total
      - That leaves me with about $70,000 of play money

The first million gives me a lot. But it doesn't satisfy all of my selfish desires. My parents are old and have never owned a house. Plus, since they hate each other they each need their own home!

      The Next Few Million

      - A designer-sustainable home for mom, a designer-sustainable home for dad. Nothing too big, as that just might make old folk feel even lonelier. I leave for them a $600,000 budget.

      - My sisters would want their own designer homes too. Again, with sustainability in mind, I can do a lot with a $600,000 budget

      - Who wants to work! No one! I reserve for each family member a $100,000 to live off. And even then, that's a ridiculous amount of money I don't think any of us will know what to do with. That's about $32,000,000 for the entire family. And just for the heck of it, let's throw in a bonus million of play money. So an extra $5 million.

My family now has everything they could ever dream of. Education. Debt-free. Custom designed homes. Eco friendly cars. They never have to work a day in their life. And they have enough play money to travel the world, go shopping, or just continue education if they would like.

I have spent apx. $40,000,000! Or 40 million. I am still 60 million away from reaching the first 100 million!! I have still apx. nine hundred and sixty million to spend!! And the next $960,000,000 is where my imagination gets really interesting!! When I'm no longer concerned about my own finances, or the finances of my family, a whole new world opens up to me. I feel like I can do anything!

When it comes to giving back to the world, I would first start with my own roots. I would start several funds to help pay off debt that art students get into it. I would start an art publication, whose profits are given back to the artists featured in the publication.

I would start an art studio to keep the art and magic of costums and puppeteering alive. This art studio would focus on artistic expression through film, rather than just supporting big hollywood movies. It would support the production of indy movies, and support eager young minds with internships and open studio lessons. This art studio would reap more money and profit for all artists involved. And is for the artists involved.

I would open up several galleries for the surreal and visionary art which always has a harder time getting the love it deserves at higher end galleries. I want to keep their dreams alive.

I would open up several animal shelters - from wild horses to cats and dogs. Each shelter would be state of the art. Rather than cats being shoved in confined cages that drive cats insane, cats would enjoy ROOMS that have both outside and inside spaces. Each facility would be designed for the animal in mind. The employees would be awarded living wages. Creating incomes for animal lovers who find zoos an insult to the animal kingdom.

I believe in donating to emergency relief aid. However, I am remain skeptical to this day to donating to long term relief aid. We can feed the poor forever, but until we create a system where the poor can feed themselves, they will always be hungry. So I can't talk about to who I would donate to. And I can't talk about creating my own, because I know nothing about it. Right now, there just isn't any organization I have total confidence to pour millions into it.

And, I think western medicine has got it entirely wrong in search for cure for diseases and how it treats those diseases.

Rather than pouring my money into the things I don't want to see in this world, I would much rather pour my money into the things I WANT to see in this world!!!

Most of all, I would love to fund an entire school that focuses on the well being of the human rather than just "career training". Imagine a university where you learn every method of meditation, lucid dreaming, energy work, the arts, permaculture to live independently, and a center to discuss the newest advancements of science that support a more holistic and spiritual view of the human being. A university that is meant to serve as a platform to teach self expression, self-EXPLORATION, well-being, and new and creative ways to live and survive as a community to liberate ourselves from an out of touch capitalistic machine.

Thats how I would like to spend my money!

      Wow, very nice juroara!

I on the other hand would not only elp my family out of debt as i'm the "rotten" child in my family and lottery ticket talks usually revolve around doing everything for the other kids and letting me do without, asses, so i would only help them out of debt then wipe myself of them.

With my money i would buy a private island and create my own micronation. Basing it on the serf system, and have no such thing as taxes, nor would there be laws against any personal choices. I would invite most of you there, i would make it self-sustainable.

This is why I would like to keep it simple. I'm not wishing for some big cash, but if it happened I would probably deal with it exactly like you. The thing is, I'm not sure how my brain and any chance for tranquility would survive in a sudden world of annoying brokers who instantly smell your cash and offer their services, new people in my life whose friendly intentions I now need to question, a pressure of doing good things for the world in a world that is so relative and business can turn into a nightmare in a day..... But most importantly the desirable state of mind, cause if I yearn for something NOW, no billion will ever change it.

Exclamation Let me teach you how it's done..

Some of the responses in this thread make me happy that none of you all have 9 zeros to spend. So, let me show you how it's done..

      $1,000,000,000 in 2010

      - Buy a mansion in Atlanta, California, New York, or Florida
      $20,000,000

      - Put $50,000,000 into certificate of deposits. Realistically speaking, factoring the interest in, plus that amount of cash.. if I take the money out during my alloted grace periods (depending upon the CD's interest) I could collect around $2.5 million dollars a year on the accumulated
interest alone.. never touching the original amount I put in.
      $50,000,000

      - Buy an LP640 murcielago lamborghini

      $350,000

      - Spend 20,000,000 to buy shares in stock companies I like so that I own a piece of the company.
      $20,000,000

Total Estimated Expenses - Little to none. The house is payed for, and there are no upkeep expenses on stocks, or CD's.

Funds left at the end of 2010 - $909,650,000

Cashflow Positive - $2.5 million dollars

      ----------------------------------------------

      $909,650,000 in 2011

      - I'd take another 100 million and open up about 20 corporate restaurants such as McDonald's, Sonic's etc. My FICO score and credit history is unaffected since I am paying for all of this without using the Banks aid. So in essence, I'm not using bank debt to amass wealth. Not necessarily a good thing but not necessarily a bad thing. I would profit about 10 grand a month per restaurant by having these and should see around 2.4 million every year.
      $100,000,000

***Since I am not going into debt to make these purchases, I am cash flow positive. I have 20 cash generating assets plus my CD accounts at this point. Therefore, at this point, I now am up 4.9 million dollars every single year.***

      - I would then take 200 million dollars and put a shopping mall down in Orlando Florida or San Fernando Valley California. The mall will be able to hold around 400 stores. Monthly rent for these stores will be around $10,000.00 per store.
      $200,000,000

      - I'd establish a limited liability company (Harper Investments LLC), hm.. perhaps several.. and spread my assets equally over them to minimize my liability and protect my investments. I'd also hire a board room team of about 10 people to handle the oversight and management of my investments. They would be the liaison between me and my investments. Not to say I would be totally hands off, but I would want to travel more at this time.
      $10,000,000

Total Estimated Expenses - Mall utilities, corporate restaurant fees and labor = $20,000,000

Funds left at the end of 2011 - $769,650,000

      Cashflow Positive - $32,900,000

      ----------------------------------------------

      $769,650,000 in 2012

      - I'd take $600,000,000 and build a hotel/resort in Dubai. The hotel will have 1,000 rooms. It will cost about 300 bucks a night to stay in a room. Dubai is the luxury capital of the world so it will not be hard to stay booked year 'round. I would simply hand this over to my investment company's board of directors to do about 95% of the managing as well.
      $600,000,000

      - I work hard so I play hard. I'd then buy a luxurious lear jet as well as another mansion in the fucking Hamptons. Yeah bitch, the Hamptons. Get on my level. I'd throw a welcome me to the neighborhood type party and the celebs would come welcome me. The attire will be all black but I will be the only person wearing white.
      $50,000,000

      - I'd buy a small island for approximately 20 million dollars. Me and Naiya will hang out there whenever we want to get away for a while.
      $20,000,000

      - I'd donate $10 million to setting up a charitable organization and spend the next 3 years traveling abroad, jet-setting all over the world. Taking a passive 5% time management role in my investments. I'd meet the Dali Lami, meet other world-renown figures, meditate on top of the Sphinx's head, amongst other things.
      $10,000,000

Total Estimated Expenses - Mall utilities, corporate restaurant fees and labor, Dubai hotel and resort fees and labor = $50,000,000

Funds left at the end of 2011 - $49,650,000

      Cashflow Positive - $90,000,000

      ----------------------------------------------

$322,350,000 in 2015 - Note: The billion dollars is now gone. I am now solely living off the passive income my assets yield me on a month to month basis.

      - Fall in love and marry a female with superior intellect, beauty, and perfect genes.

      - Take $200,000,000 and put a hotel/casino in Las Vegas. The hotel will be better than the Luxor. The hotel will have 1,000 rooms and a night in this hotel will cost roughly $200/ night. On average, the gaming floor makes around $30,000/ night.
      $200,000,000

      - I enlarge the board of directors from 10 to 30 and elect a chairman of the board. I move the company to New York and purchase a building more apt at accommodating the board and its members.
      $20,000,000

It's been a damn good year.

Total Estimated Expenses - Mall utilities, corporate restaurant fees and labor, Dubai hotel and resort fees and labor, hotel + gaming fees in Las Vegas = $70,000,000

      Cashflow Positive - $149,300,000/year

Funds left at the end of 2015 - $251,650,000

      ----------------------------------------------

      $251,650,000 in 2016

      - Buy a 200 ft. Yacht

      $50,000,000

      - Give 5,000,000 to my wife for her to start a business venture of her own.
      $5,000,000

      - Donate 30,000,000 to Oprah's Angel network, along with other charitable organizations.
      $30,000,000

      - Take 3 years, spending quality time with my wife and work on getting pregnant.

Total Estimated Expenses - Mall utilities, corporate restaurant fees and labor, Dubai hotel and resort fees and labor, hotel + gaming fees in Las Vegas = $70,000,000

      Cashflow Positive - $149,300,000/year

Funds left at the end of 2016 - $245,950,000

      ----------------------------------------------

      $693,850,000 in 2019

      - Spend $300,000,000 on another Hotel in Dubai, adding a casino on the floor this time. Then spend another $300,000,000 on another Hotel/Casino in Las Vegas. This one, I call "The Grandeur". Each hotel has 1,000 rooms. $200/ night's stay. The floors' make $30,000/ night as well.
      $600,000,000

      - Take 5 years off, spending more time with family and allowing my finances to accrue before I make more power moves.

Total Estimated Expenses - Mall utilities, corporate restaurant fees and labor, Dubai hotel and resort fees and labor, hotel + gaming fees in Las Vegas = $111,000,000

      Cashflow Positive - $297,150,000/year

      ----------------------------------------------

      $1,485,750,000 in 2024 - Billionaire Status Regained

According to an article on forbes.com, the Denver Broncos were valued at $975 million.
The 2008 average evaluation for 32 NFL team owners annual earnings was $1.04 billion USD
      - Purchase the Denver Broncos
      $975,000,000

Total Estimated Expenses - Mall utilities, corporate restaurant fees and labor, Dubai hotel and resort fees and labor, hotel + gaming fees in Las Vegas = $111,000,000

      Cashflow Positive - $149,300,000/year

Funds left at the end of 2024 - $399,750,000

      ----------------------------------------------

      $399,750,000 in 2025

      - Put my 9 year old boy and 8 year old girl in the best private school America has to offer.
      $35,000/ child. $70,000/ year.

      - Since most of the time spent managing my plethora of investments have been handed to the board of directors of my companies, - I spend the majority of my time funding the necessary materials to help build schools in Africa. I'd also fund charities, non-profit organizations and occasionally give graduation speeches at universities.

Total Estimated Expenses - Mall utilities, corporate restaurant fees and labor, Dubai hotel and resort fees and labor, hotel + gaming fees in Las Vegas, children's tuition = $111,070,000

      Cashflow Positive - $1,149,300,000/year

Funds left at the end of 2025 - $1,437,980,000.00

So as you can clearly see.. I made the billion back within 15 years, plus an extra 430 million to top it off. My future annual earnings will be roughly $1,149,300,000.

Definitely not clear cut set in stone scenarios here, especially seeing as I don't have 1 billion USD. But if I did.. the above is what I would do. The numbers may fluctuate a bit up or down but I tried to base them off realistic figures. Some figures I researched before applying them within here. Forbes, among other websites were sources I used.

My point is.. make your money make more money. Don't let it accumulate dust and certainly don't blow it like an idiot.

Mine really isnt too complicated.. I would quit my job.. buy a flash house, few cars.. everything material you could want/need.. move my immediate family into said house. get a limo to an airport with no suitcases, hand em my credit card and passport and say " somewhere hot" find somewhere great to stay in said country until im bored.. and buy everything i need when i get there, when im bored.. go back to airport.. and so on, when i miss home..go back to perfect house.. where all my family are.. when they piss me off.. pooff..off i go again.

Id prob have a boob job too.

Oh and lots and lots of shoes.

...you people are putting too much thought into this...>.> Cool plan, though. If I ever get my hands on a billion or so, I'll do something similar.

Also, i change my mind on what i would do as i was not thinking deeply at that moment, first thing first: Hire Jeff as my personal asset administrator!

I found the median monthly salary of a person in Sahara Region of Africa and i calculated how much money i could expect to charge with a price of $0.08/Kw Hr (even though it probably would be higher), and i have determined that adding such infrastructure would currently not be very profitable unless the venture was subsidized in some way by the government of a country. Oh well, there goes my dreams of solar plants and a super grid.

I change my plan, i would invest in apartment buildings, condos and restaurants instead. I actually met a millionaire once and a large part of his revenue comes from him owning several houses and apartment buildings on top of his other activities.

      1. drop out of school
      2. buy a paradise island for friends/family
      3. write poetry(more than i do now), write songs, and philosophize about life
maybe do some fishing, but really just get away from it all. I guess I don't really need a billion dollars....

      scratch that

i'd give it to someone who feels like they need it.
or wants to waste time with it.
probably just give the whole thing to red cross
      fuck money
      its corrupting and degrading

I would place a standing bounty of $10k on human nipples, with the endgame of constructing a dirigible made entirely of human nipples.
If you have a sense of caring for others, you will manifest a kind of inner strength in spite of your own difficulties and problems. With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm.Dalai Lama

      Savings, CDs, and conservative investments

      150,000,000

      A private island for myself.

      48,500,000

This one's for my family & friends.

      48,000,000

      Yacht, of course

      http://www.yachtworld.com/boats/2003...lands-%28US%29

      ~ 100,000,000

20 million for each family member to spend.

      300,000,000

Then I'd give away a million to each of my closest friends. Hell, make it 10 million.

      150,000,000

I would start my own charity organization

      100,000,000

Then I'd use some money to spread awareness of lucid dreaming and other pet projects, write a book or two, possibly produce a film

      3,500,000

Create an independent record label and produce an album featuring yours truly.

      50,000,000

Misc. stuff to fill my mansion: cars, clothes, jewelry, furniture, latest technology, security system of course.
