Question What if you were currently a billionaire?

In our present economic situation, what if you were a billionaire (not one that's known) but just standardly having a little over $1,000,000,000.00 total in your accounts and total equity - What would you do with your resources at hand? Would you help stimulate the economy in some way? Would you just want to live off of the interest? Would you donate a bunch of the money to charitable causes?

I'd love to hear your thoughts. =D

I would slowly start buying gold, until I own 50 million dollars worth. I would buy a large track of land, with its own water supply that is good for farming on. I would hire someone to farm that land for me, with efforts on sustaining the land and food out put and not really on profit. I would build a site for long term food storage. I would covert 50 million dollars into the currency of other countries. I would build a strong under ground bunker. I would invest 100 million in stocks and bonds that I personally believe will be profitable long term. I would buy up a lot of cheap housing, then rent them out for long term profit. I would build a decent sized house on my land. I would set up the house to run on renewable energy, likely either wind or solar power. I would hire some bodyguards, and buy up a lot of guns. I would run for public office on a local level, then move up to state, and finally federal level. I would set up a bank, that is based around safe and reliable banking practices, instead of what we got today. I would help out my family, so they don't have to worry so much about money.

I'd be inclined to donate at least half (if not 75%+) of it to spinal cord
injury research. The rest I'd use to make sure my family could live comfortably.
I'd continue with university and make my own personal money with an appropriate
      career afterwards.

I would never donate anything to a charity if I had that much. Instead I would start my own charity, so that I could have oversight over where the money is spent. So that I know the millions are not being wasted in pointless bureaucracy.

My brother has a friend who has a friend who is a billionaire. He likes to take fast food jobs here and there just to amuse himself with the irony of it. He knows he can quit at any time without consequences.

That sounds a lot like what I would do, Alric. I just probably wouldn't go into elections. I'd just get the appropriate people to run for me. The flashiest people can also be the weakest when you make yourself known to the other corrupted and evil puppeteers out there in the world. But very good thinking. I like your style. =D

first i would tithe (church). I know the Bible says only 10% but I would tithe quite a bit more of course. i would donate to a few charities, I would set up my friends and family so they wouldn't have to worry about finances ever again. I would buy quite a bit of land (at least 200 acres) for building a house on and also hunting. I would buy a brand new Ranger Bass boat fully loaded straight from the factory with a 101 pound thrust motor guide trolling motor and 300 HP optimax on the back. I would buy a Hummer... not the H2 or H3 but the origional to tow my boat and also play with. For my daily driver, I would buy a '71 super bee with a 440 6-pack (which I am in the process of doing now ).
When it all comes down to it, all of that is just stuff. I am happy with the way my life is right now. my wife and I have great jobs. We make more then enough money to live off of. We have everything we need and want and we are both in great health. Who could ask for more?

Meh. Probably just get a nice car, a nice girl, live in a nice apartment that overlooks the city, and and have a room full of the best strains of cannabis in the back room. And just chill and enjoy life and dream. I'd give my mother some money give the rest to charity or to the economy, I don't know, i would give it to where ever it would help humanity. But now I'm starting to see money doesn't help humanity. I DON'T want to be rich, I'd just want to be comfortable. Money really goes to your head. Money only gives you happiness for a while. Lucid dreaming is the key to eternal happiness.

Well first I would indulge myself. Buy real estate in about 3 states, better car. Then I'd buy out a corporation and be one of those big-shots. Get a hot wife have a few kids (heirs). In the end I'd probably realize the having a billion dollars isn't everything, and donate a large portion of the money, and go back to some of my old values.

I would get it all in bill form.

      Cover it with gasoline.

Pile it up in an intersection.

      Light a match.

      Set it a flame.

I would buy things I want, such as a house, a car, illegal things, etc. I probably wouldn't change the donations I already give( I give my grandma 5 dollars to donate in church or I donate when I go to church) Invest in stocks, and probably have enough left over to get into whatever fucking college I want.

After a bit of frivolous spending, I would invest it wisely, turn the billion into multi-billions, turn those into trillions, and finally save the world in whatever way I see fit.

I'd keep $100,000, use 10 million for toilet paper for the rest of my life, give some money to my mother and give the rest to charity or something

I'd put enough in trust to provide me a yearly cash flow around 60k (not enough to really get myself in trouble). I'd establish a woodland retreat center near my hometown, both as a personal and family compound and to put some people to work with retreat business, weddings, and cabin rentals, and set up associated writers' fellowships and scholarships for Buddhist study.

I'd likely throw some capital at other business opportunities in my hometown. I've always thought about setting up some kind of beverage company drawing on the town's history as a mineral springs resort, and would likely take a certain bar off the hands of a family friend. Beyond that, I'd likely pick up rental properties in a few cities where I have people or would otherwise like to have a homebase (keeping one unit free for personal use) and spend a lot of time traveling and seeing performances.

With the remainder, I'd set up a microbanking and community restoration nonprofit, starting in my hometown and spreading out from there.

True but if you took the money invested it into something like gold you could have millions more to donate to Spinal Cord this would benifit both even more.

I'd donate a lot of it to grassroots marijuana legalization groups.

Then, I'd plant a shitload of trees with the rest.

With 1 billion dollars, I would keep about 2 or 4 million of it, and the rest towards the economy thingy, which would cover roughly a 600th of the debt the world is in.

Hmm, in fact, now that I look at it that way, I would fund some physics research. I don't know what, but something.

And the money left (the 4 million) I would use to lead a happy life and make sure my family does too. And of course some charities too.

And I would probably invest in quite a lot of stuff.

Why give all the money away if it wouldn't even put a dent into helping the econ? Sorry, I have a very anti-commie outlook towards sharing, lol

      So... one bill smackers

I think I'd donate some to some of the better charities that I believe in

Mostly a So Cal thing, but get a desert race truck built and race it

Buy a decent houes and things (I'm not materialistic. I wouldn't buy a freakin' mansion... that's just stupid)

Maybe go on a world tour... visit, Japan, Aussi, then go to Euro and take a Rail Pass and travel around there. S Africa maybe?

However, before all that... I would prob put 1/4 to 1/2 in stocks
