When you pray to god, have u ever heared anything back? Have u ever had any results atleast?
Why is this only directed to Christians????
Nope. Not a single time... as a "voice".
But relevant Scriptures will pop through my mind in answer to questions. A lot of times, I'll think I had forgotten the Scripture or that it had been a really long time since I read it. Christians believe that's God's holy spirit, giving you answers you need.
That's why it's so important to read the Bible. It's the only "direct" way God has to communicate with us. He can help us "call to mind" those things when we need guidance.
You seem to think that God is different from any other life form, that whatever it is exists for the sake of man. Very ego centric, don't you think?
If you have even bothered to read the text, whatever it is plainly states it will do its own will. And have I ever got evidence of its existence? whatever it is, most certainly have.
But my question is, what difference does it make? Does it change what you are? What you are suppose to strive for? What you are suppose to accomplish? When I started to see things that would and did happen, I responded the same way--it was not my vision, so why pursue it? I am responsible for what I see.
I look at it this way; whatever it is is like a very rich man. If it steps in and changes my life, I am rather powerless to stop it. I simply proceed on my path as best as I can.
Have you ever noticed that the majority of rants and raves against this "God" employ ego centric arguments? The same arguements a child would use.
lol so true.Quote:

What is the evidence you have witnessed?
I don't really understand what you mean. But the point of this thread was to see if people actually get results from praying and what similarities they share with results from meditating.
Because praying and meditating are much alike.
Again, what did you see and how did it happen?
I think that has to do with the shifting viewpoint of life here on earth. What these people mean with that the god concept is ur ego they mean individualistic thinking. Some people stopped seeing themselves as individuals but more as a Collective here on earth, Much like a lot of different bacterie move around together even tho they are all individual.
That's how they start seeing humans, all the people here on earth together as one life form.
You see , they don't mean you are a selfish person. They mean you think as an individualist.
And thank you Zhaylin that was useful information. Keep those coming guys.
Some of it is in my Language and Experience on the archive. Suffice it to say, I would be quite dead without what men call divine intervention a long time ago. When it happened, I got really, really angry. Why save my life when so many are let die? It is a difficult thing to go through.
As far as what you call prayer and meditation, I would either agree or disagree depending on what you meant by those terms.
Often a man's prayer is answered, but he simply attributes it to blind luck. However, I don't think it was answered for the sake of the man, but for the Plan.
Every one has a reason, every single person. It is their own definition. No man nor god can change that. And it is the same reason for everyone--a wise man once said it--to have life and to have it more abundantly. It is a biologically based fact.
I prayed to God that there were some oreos left in the cupboard, and Lo! There was a full box of the delicious cookies!
^
O praise the LAWD!
why didn't you say "any religion that includes prayer"
The rants and raves for god are just as bad, if not worse. Let's take your own post, for example. You think there's some sort of great plan that this god of yours has in store. You think you were saved by divine intervention. These are some of the most childish thoughts I've ever heard.Quote:

Your brain?
K I'munna edit this, you do realize that you retain an extremely powerful system that is the most advanced biological structure ever to be observed? Of course it is going to RECALL relevant scriptures that you've read before. Don't accredit this to some magical god-man, its your f'in brain!
I agree, for the most part.
I'm always amazed, for instance, when I dream about someone I haven't seen since I was a kid. My brain stored all the info so I'm able to recall everything about that person in the dream, even though I've forgotten in waking life.
I don't think God's "mainlining" or zapping the info into my head. It's been there the whole time. I think Holy Spirit can nudge your thoughts, but I mostly feel it's the persons subconscious calling the words forefront to mind.
Whether or not God is directly involved matters not at all to me. He had the Bible written, the Bible gives me strength and answers, prayer connects me to those answers and that strength. They compliment one another.
And because God says "read the Bible", the whole process works because he initiated it.
So help me understand something.
Reading the bible is the only way that god has to communicate with us but god is the one that told us to read the bible in the first place?
How does that work exactly?
Let's see, I'm struggling with my art and I think "Damn, show me something awesome!". I wait a few moments and bang! I see something I've never seen before in my minds eye. But it doesn't last long, maybe like two seconds and if I'm not paying to attention to my own head I miss it completely.
It works every time, does that count? :bigteeth:
But no, seriously. If ever there is an all encompassing consciousness communicating with my daily waking consciousness, its always in the form of imagery - not sound or words. Sometimes the imagery can get really vivid, an entire scene, but unlike a hallucination it always has a meaning for me.
One time I felt life was squeezing me, so I listened to some music. And all the chatter and useless worry thoughts just melted away. Instead all I could see was a blue man dancing all by himself in desert. A storm raged over head and as he danced the rain poured and the desert bloomed. And after that trance I'll start to remember things I forgot. Maybe it was something I wanted to do, put I said "later", when really now is as good as anytime.
I can't say that it was the music. Because I've heard the same tracks a dozen times before and nothing ever happened. All the music did was shut-up the mind chatter and let something else through.
I don't offer this as evidence and it really doesn't matter what you or I believe. Regardless of what you or I believe, if you can just shut-up your head you'll see, hear, feel exactly what you need to see, hear or feel right now in your life.
