      Is God a god?

Is God a god? Like Zues or Dionysus?

It seems like a lot of the discussions of God here are based on two people with two different views of what God even is. One person(the theist) doesn't exactly know what God is, but they know God must exist. The atheist has his own dogma, which is that God is a sky dude. So basically two people are talking about 2 different things and thus talking to themselves basically.

To me, the idea of a God is not completely absurd, but sky dudes definitely are. I think that many theists woujld even agree.

This is directed towards, but not exclusive to christians. I'm mainly wondering if the christian God is a deity with a personality, a mind, a will. Is it like a person or is it just a non-personal force?
157 is a prime number. The next prime is 163 and the previous prime is 151, which with 157 form a sexy prime triplet. Taking the arithmetic mean of those primes yields 157, thus it is a balanced prime.

Not all gods are sky dudes. Hades was a ground dude and Poseidon was a sea dude. I think Atlas was some kind of space dude.

My aplogies, I did not mean to offend them. May they accept my offering of 40 virgins.

Sky fairy with a fantastic white beard is some of the first imagery to come to my mind, but few Christians likely believe this stereotype. It's amusing watching people to try and define what god is without any sort of evidence. The Christian notion is absurdly specific, assuming that there's a god that a) cares about human moral choices, b) punishes or rewards those choices with what are further assumptions of eternal heaven and hell, c) created the universe and potentially the earth and life, d) sent his son to die on the cross for man's original sins, and so on. It's one thing to make one baseless assumption, but this endless stack just seems to follow the reasoning of "well, if I'm going to jail anyway, I might as well kill the hooker and rob a bank." New agers go the opposite direction and become as vague as humanly possible (e.g. god is energy, the universe, etc) until you aren't really sure where god ends and inanimate matter and energy begins, or what their god even is.

Is it possible there's a god or gods? Sure. Is it even remotely likely that we've been able to come close to defining any one of them, should they exist? Nope.

I'm an atheist and have noticed that's a cheap method many atheists use while arguing with theists to make their god seem rediculous. Most theists probably consider their god to be a bodiless, spiritual entity, not some white-bearded-man-in-the-sky. I'm sure some consider that to be God, particularly children, but I too would like to know what exactly they consider their god to be.

I remember in the private Jewish elementary school, as early as grade 2 or so, they were telling us about God and trying to make it very clear that he isn't a physical entity, that he's everywhere and nowhere and doesn't have a physical form.

Christians, Jews, etc. believe man was "made in God's image", and I guess different theists will take that to different levels. Does it imply God has a physical body? I've heard different answers from different theists, and wouldn't be surprised if the general opinion was that they don't know, that it's a mystery.

I'm guessing most people believe God is a spiritual genderless entity. That's why it annoys me when I hear atheists straw-manning theists with the claim that they believe in "some bearded pervert who watches you masturbate" or something along those lines.

And then there are those people who claim to believe in God and have 'spiritual' beliefs which turn out to be some new-aged Bhuddisty one-with-the-universe nonsense. What they're calling God usually turns out to be some mindless energy, or 'oneness', or consciousness.

Actually we have plenty of definitions, we just have no way of knowing if they are true.

I've always like the Jewish concept of God much more than the Christian. Like that God is a verb.

I think many young sketch artists are looking for gods and goddesses to pose in the nude. One can then see exactly what they look like. However, I am not sure if one can tell their religious preferences with their cloths off.

I think the more difficult question is, Is A an A? Or is a turtle a turtle? Much more difficult questions.

For some reason i think the original hebrew jews had it right. They knew that and when they found out about some guy named Jesus they killed him because they thought he was a threat to the truth. Not realizing that jesus was actually speaking about the same thing.
Fast-forwarding someone provoked hitler into killing all the living jews to stop the truth movement and set in movement their final plan to discredit the jews by having corrupt people pose themselves as jews while the true jews are voiceless people not heared by the masses.

Poor old Atlas. He definitely drew the short straw.
