So which religion or belief are you?
I'm an atheist but I follow certain aspects of LaVeyan Satanism, Buddhism and Pantheism.
Kaballah.
In order to stir up a debate, I take issue with the dichotomy between atheism and agnosticism!
Just kidding. We need at least one sane thread around here.
I am Jewish, raised catholic and find panentheism, Buddhism, Taoism, and many other religions fascinating but I usually don't try to label myself as anything.
I believe that whatever god is... is so vast and big that it's too incomprehensible to be put down into a single religion. I just sort of look at all the religions and spiritual beliefs and take what i like and leave the rest. My fundamental believe is that all creation IS god and expressions of god. that not only is every human part of god or god's image but everything else also, even the flies I swat in the summer time :P
Weak Atheist, I don't believe their in a god or any sort of higher power. However when I am on my deathbed I will still pray for forgiveness :P just in-case I was wrong,

And that should kill the budding debate. Next issue?
That poster explained nothing, it just bitched in a very indirect manner. I've always preferred agnosticism over atheism. Could you explain some more specific points?
I could best describe myself as an agnostic in the sense that I don't believe in certainty, only degrees of probability. Scientific/Naturalistic Pantheism would best fit my view, but I don't subscribe to the label, it just happened to be the closest. Basically I think Nature=Universe=Everything=God and science is the best tool for us to understand "God", but since we are a part of "God" maybe clearing our head of our personal life and meditating on our pure being gets us closer too.
Oh hell, here we go again. Very well.
The vast majority of atheists are agnostic.
"What? How is that possible?!" you may think to yourself.
It's true. Theism is the belief in a god or gods. Atheism is the lack of that belief. It is NOT the assertion that no gods exist. It CAN be...this is called strong atheism, or gnostic atheism. Few people hold this stance. Most opt for agnostic atheism, which is the lack in belief of a deity but not the certainty that none exists. This is weak atheism.
the same applies to theism. A person who is certain there is a god is a gnostic theist. One who believes in a god in any form but is uncertain that god exists, is an agnostic theist. There is no such thing as just an agnostic. Agnosticism is a measure of certainty, not a stand-alone belief system. You can't be an "agnostic." If you genuinely don't have any clue whether or not a god exists, you still don't believe in one, and that makes you a weak atheist.
I think he is just trying to say that the label agnostic is superfluous and they are pretty much atheists. I personally think that strong atheism is as untenable a position as strong theism. We can be 100% certain of very few things already but being 100% certain that a deity does not exist is overconfident. I'm not saying possibility=actuality but I just cannot be absolutely certain of the nonexistence of something that I cannot experience.
@mario92- Under your criteria I suppose I am a weak atheist but I still voted other.
I've just always attributed atheism with a rejecting attitude toward a deity while agnosticism took a "I don't know/ I don't care till there's evidence." attitude toward a deity, but I don't care about labels honestly, they're always widely interpretable and a source of worthless argument.
Atheism can mean the lack of belief in god(s) or the belief that there are no gods. It is strange though because there is an important difference between the two views.
Agnostic (weak) atheist. Because unlike some, I actually know the meaning of both words, and hence why they are not mutually exclusive.
Lol and now this thread has turned Into a debate on the definition of agnosticism and atheism.
Crap. I was about to post, but there's already arguing.
Thanks.
