Satan only started being considered evil in about the 1500s. Before that, he was more like a lawyer, who argued the deads' sins against Saint Peter. God made the decision whether or not to condemn them to hell, or let them into heaven based on those arguments, now-a-days I think Saint Peter makes that decision himself. |

Thanks ninja, I love to keep up with the cutting edge of theological research. |

Well if you wanted to go by the bible, then Satan is also smarter than god. If you read the story of Job, Satan plays god like a fiddle, and effortlessly talks god into slaughtering hundreds of people and punishing his most faithful worshiper for no reason at all. The story of Job is supposed to answer the question of why god allows evil in the word, and according to the story it is because God is a 5 year old that easily gives into peer pressure any time Satan speaks a word. Satan didn't do anything in the story at all, God directly causes all of the suffering because Satan goaded him into it. |

From what i've heard, satan doesn't sound all that bad. It's god I dislike. |

The worst thing that can happen to a good cause is, not to be skillfully attacked, but to be ineptly defended. - Frédéric Bastiat
I try to deny myself any illusions or delusions, and I think that this perhaps entitles me to try and deny the same to others, at least as long as they refuse to keep their fantasies to themselves. - Christopher Hitchens

It's all true. I'm a nice guy when you get to know me. |

Go to hell, bitch. I'm the evil one around here! (See what I did there, tehe) |

Were you looking for actual responses to this issue Jeff or just an invitation for comedy hour from the normal people who hang out here? |

I think most Christians ignore the old testament by now. Even Jesus ignored huge parts of the old testament because it was so bad. If you believe in the teaching of Jesus and follow what he says, you pretty much have to throw out most of the old testament, and just use the newer stuff. |

If Stan IS smarter than God, then I believe that he may in fact be more powerful. Let's consider the fact that he's still here, still around, even though he is supposed to be, in a way, God's opposite or enemy. He's sort of like Shredder. He never really goes down. The Bible says that in the end God will judge him and punish him, but he seems to be procrastinating. |

---o--- my DCs say I'm dreamy.
Its good to keep in mind that in many instances "satan" is used in the metaphorical sense. Much of the devil stuff was added by priests over time so they would have excuses to start wars.. Although I think the metaphorical representation of temptation is definitly something one should think about. |

So if a God were said to order people to commit mass genocides or rapes... you would be saddened if people trampled on that? |
|
Meh, I don't hate god because I don't believe in him, and because I don't hate, just dislike... If I believed he were real, then I would dislike him, yup. |

If it comes at a price of making others sad, why do it? For our own dick tugging purposes? Why do we feel the need to reaffirm our beliefs or lack thereof on an internet forum and tear down others? For me it just comes down to what affect am I leaving on people. Are people better off for having met you, or worse off? I'm just trying to understand a mans mind, not tell him its inferior. |
