To answer the question. For me religion isn't relevant to my life.
Religion is relevant to my life.
???
This thread is for philistines.
Religion is in no way, shape, or form a part of my life. Science on the other hand....science is everything, even simple every day things.
I would answer if you will give me first your personal definition of religion then I can answer.
Nonexistent aside from a semi-rare topic of discussion with other non religious people I like to think of as my friends.
ok
._.
explain?
Reason > Faith because logic and science are more reliable ground to stand on. However, with the complexity of life one must realize reason can only perceive life through mankind's narrow field of vision. Faith is an important tool to use, faith that there is something stronger than these impermanent forces that surround me and that I will find my way through whatever mess I get in.
I see traditions as terrible things to apply to other people, but they're beautiful things to apply to yourself, especially if you're a person able to recognize and change their traditions when more valuable information comes in. I think of the film shutter island for this concept. If you haven't seen it it's about a Federal Marshal that investigates a disappearance on an island and the people covering it up try to make him think he's insane. When you're losing your mind, you can no longer trust what you see, what people tell you, everything is questionable. The line between waking world and dreaming world becomes so blurred what you need is a torch, a light. Jeffry Dahmer advocated religion for serial killers because he thought when people have minds like him they need some form of responsibility to believe in, some form of divine justice.
So while Science is a great tool to understand all the mechanisms we used to call God, God is a great tool to persevere happily against the infinite mystery we cannot understand which is always a step ahead of reason.
If I not here reading topics or discussing(not very often) "religion" then I either praying, reading my bible, or talking to fellow believers. It affect me because doing these things help me in my faith and hopefully also by doing them it help me to discuss the matter of "religion" with others believers and nonbelievers.
I hope my answer is sufficient if not please ask me to explain further I be glad to do so.

Sadly, it has no bearing on my life whatsoever anymore.
I used to be very devout. I went out in Service (door to door preaching work) almost every day. I went to Congregation meetings at least twice a week. I prayed often and studied. Then I was disfellowshipped. I started smoking, my kids became more and more unruly and now religion is just a wistful but occasional thought.
Despite my efforts not to become embittered, I am. At least a little.
I'm also lazy and don't feel like studying anymore. Especially when I'm alone in my devotion. Which is a cop-out, because with God one is never truly alone. So I guess I'm just lazy and jaded.
Mostly lazy.
I mean, how hard is it to pray? I don't remember the last time I said a prayer.
And no, I'm not mad at God. Just myself and my Congregation. But I'm taking it out on Him.
Makes sense to me
I find praying useless, even if god existed. Why ask god for something? for the most part a person is able to do it themselves, what they pray for. ALot of it are dumb reasons too..."yo god plz win me the lottery so i can be rich, ill devote myself to you then". Then there are other things like wanting people to be safe, which is not up to you, or me to change, but time will tell you. I just can't find a reason to wanna pray to a god, the whole part of growing as a person would be meaningless if you relied on praying and recieving. Sometimes you just gotta take the bad things in life. Bad expieriences, and good ones both help you become a better person, not always asking in faith hopeing it works out.
From a Christian view:
If anyone is praying just to ask for something like: money, a new car, house, and so on have lost the sight of what praying is really about. Those who pray usually pray for strength, peace, guidance, safety and if they are not are people who money on the mind. Mankind is able to do what on there own? If greedy, a man can do, if hateful, a man can do, if vengeful, a man can do. You grow as you grow and by what means is your choice so too is the same for those who pray to God. I haven't met one person who hasn't had a situation they couldn't handle and everyone when met with the situation find strength in praying to God or by other means such as: cutting, drugs, drinking, sex, gambling and so on. I welcome your post anytime but what the point of posting when you just going to tear down those who you don't see eye to eye with?
Well said Wantless. I'm not a Christian and never was, but I always thought the thing to pray for was the strength to persevere, the compassion to understand, and the ability to love. Anyone who prays for money or gifts must have a very cheap idea of their own God. They must see him as a jolly fat man in a red suit.
Jim Morrison: "You cannot petition the Lord with prayer."
