Thread: Satanic Temple Pushes for Baphomet Statue to be Put up at Oklahoma Statehouse

I didn't think they'd actually get permission. I heard about it months ago on the news (I live there ). Knowing that Oklahoma is the buckle of the Bible belt though, I seriously doubt they can raise the money here.

It's hard for the government to say they can't do it when they have allowed Christians to do so many parallel things. The people who having been using the government to promote their religion and getting somewhere with it made it extremely easy for this Satanic temple to do the same thing with their religion. The people who are going to be the most pissed about this are the people who made it possible. They denied the arguments they would need to make to oppose the Baphomet statue. This is probably the funniest example of political activism backfire I have ever heard of.

Baphomet isn't even satanic, they just stoled the image because christians were all scared of it

It's pagan and has nothing to do with the christian concept of satan - booo satanists!

Not of Satanists, nor pagan symbols..

But of the stains of murder that is upon its own hands..

Murder associated with the history of Baphomet ..

With the history of the Knights Templar...

With the history of the Cathars

Much has been swept under the rug

When you said that it some how made me noticed something that I hadn't notice before. Which is that the demons often have a goat head, and sacrificing goats was very common back when animal sacrifices was a key aspect of worship for Christians.

I was always under the impression that such sacrifice was something that the ancient Hebrews of the old testament did up to and including the times of Jesus. I was also under the impression that such was abandoned by the time Christianity took hold.

This, and only this, is what pisses me off about this news.

That thing looks hideous and would be a complete eye sore for anyone OK to live by. The article lost me with the satanist are about empathy b.s. I doubt it gets built anyway.

That supports the argument that church and state should not mix. No religious symbol should be a statue at a government site.

What I find interesting of the picture is the all seeing eye and capstone on the necklace..

The same symbol on the back of your US one dollar bill set above the pyramid

Such steps beyond the gate of good/evil into mysticism..

Now that I've actually read the article I see the image of Baphomet at the top has been arbitrarily taken from the internet and does not hold any connection to the design the Satanic Temple has in mind. Just Satan.

That is true, however Christianity is just a sect of the old that religion that sacrificed things. They still use the old testament as a holy book, so I am not sure you can really say they are a completely different religion.

They totally went with Baphomet after all. But I guess it's splitting hairs, Satan is just a culmination of the surrounding region's traditions and symbols that predated Christianity. I'm on board with both Satan and Baphomet, they're both equally awesome, overly stigmatized, loving deities. It's just a bold nod to Satanism's pagan roots.

And God even sent tornadoes tearing through the region to commemorate this glorious event.

Even if they used Mickey Mouse and presented him as Satan or a demon, I am all for it if it gets the religious right to understand that church and state do not mix. I no longer have to use the hypothetical of Satanic monuments to get those people to understand that a right to use the government for Christianity opens the door to a right to use the government for Satanism. Although Baphomet was not originally a representation of Satan, he became one. That is what counts. A Baphomet statue is enough to stir up the right controversy and create the right real life analogy. I consider this an enormous victory for standing up to theocracy. A bit of theocratic activity had to happen to make the point, but I see it like a vaccine, in which a little bit of a disease is injected so that later disease can be prevented.

Still a disturbing looking statue no matter what your opinion is, it just looks disturbing.

I'm glad. I want this to become a huge national controversy. It could push Republicans a big step closer to being Libertarians.

I wish I shared your optimism, I am convinced that the world will fall apart at the seams and that chaos is on the way globally, quite the great future I envision LOL

Well, I do worry about that every day. I am almost completely positive that we are getting close to either a social rebirth or a totalitarian rut. Fortunately, I think the former is much more likely. Large numbers of people are getting fed up daily with the push toward a control freak police state. I'm hearing more and more people say they are not having it, and that's a great thing.

You may be right, as negative as my mind is, deep down I know all human beings are not going to bend over and say yes sir please abuse me more government.
