So uh, what makes you think this belongs in the philosophy forum? You didnt even write anything. You do know there are other sections of this forum, yes?

This would be a philosophical study of weather the spirit realm is manipulated by man's actions? And if so is it play or peril?....Is that simple enough for you?

Next time you post something, why not just include some text to direct the discussion where you want it to go - a five word thread title gives no information. I honestly thought you were joking and thought it would better fit in senseless banter.

I'm going to go with kim on this one:

      Ouija Boards:

      a) Peril
      B) Play
      c) Bullshit

      ... c thanks!

I played Ouija, but never got to experience possession, spiritual sightings, and all of that good stuff. ok, I mean, I tried to play ouija. I put my hands on the thing, tried both concentrating and not concentrating, and even tried to fool myself by moving it in the back of my mind. Sorry I suck at the game, I just have too much self control, I guess.

I say you don't need to worry about it. If you believe in evil entities, that suggestion alone will contribute in making a fearful reality rather parallel to that. Anyway, I got more out of playing poker or a LAN Halo tourney.

It's just a game......It's absurd to think some mass marketed piece of bullshit would actually attract spirirts or some other supernatural phenomina assuming those things exist.

Contrary to popular beliefs, and lore the only documented case of exorcism began with playing the Ouija.

When we were kids, my brother and his friend asked a ouija board how old I will be when I die. It, well, their hand movements, said I would be 32. I remember bringing that up to him on my 33rd birthday.

      That never gets old.

As for me, I recently heard a \"ghost hunter\" bade people not to use Ouija boards to open doors to other realms -- but c'mon, the name means \"yes-yes\", in two languages; the thing's just a yes-man, playing on your own movments and emotions.

On another board, I am the appointed teacher/expert of the art of Automatic Writing. Ask any questions you like, I'll be glad to answer. As I said over there, I've been doing that for years now. It's a truly spiritually satisfying experience.

Let's pretend for a moment that the whole concept isn't bullshit.

How does a Ouija Board differ from the cute new pair of boots I bought from the Nine West outlet?

How do we know that those cute mass-produced sweat-shop-labor boots aren't going to open a nexus to a nasty spirit world? I mean, what's the difference between them and the aforementioned Toys-'R'-Us staple? (Other than that they were on sale and they're cuter, the latter already having been well-established.)

I don't want to hear about the brain from someone that doesn't have one.
Nor do I want to hear about evolution from someone that hasn't evolved.

I've had more misfortune with a pair of running shoes from Wal-Mart rather than my tamperings with the Ouija game....

Just as your cute little boots are an inanimate object, with no specific paranormal abilities, so also is the Ouija Board. But, there is a clear and distinct difference in the intended function of the game, and your cute little boots.

It is by design a tool which facilitates people’s ability to focus their own spiritual abilities onto the game, thereby giving a real source of power to the game, from the player’s themselves. Their mental and spiritual projections are manifest in the function of the game.

Under the control of the most powerful of those present among the players, there is a focal point ‘if you will’ establish among the players, and offend the most power spirit drawn to these manifestations of power are not among the players themselves, but of those whom the focused of power has attracted. It is the power of those involved within the game, which gives the game its power.

So why can't my cute (did I mention they were cute) new boots be used as a focal point? Surely they could. And then all these nasty spirits would start possessing my cute boots and then they wouldn't be so cute any more.

I think I'll invest in a Ouija Board - kinda like a glue-trap-for-spirits. Just to keep 'em from possessing my boots.

I don't want to hear about the brain from someone that doesn't have one.
Nor do I want to hear about evolution from someone that hasn't evolved.

You could paint a bunch of letters on your wall and then ask your wall a question. After you ask it, throw your boot behind you and then quickly turn around to see where the boot hits. See what words end up getting spelled out. If this becomes a fad, people will start saying, "I think demons control boots, and you shouldn't be playing with them."

I also want to mention that a lot of people play with ouija boards with no thought of talking to spirits.
      You are dreaming right now.

Ouija Boards are nothing more than tangible outlets to nurture delusional notions.

I've always wanted to read Mein Kampf; have you read it yet? If you do, could you please tell me if it's any good? Thanks.

"Mein Kampf" if a must-read. If for nothing other than better understanding human nature.

And Ouija becomes really annoying when I try to explain to people how to really pronounce it.

Ever since 7th grade, I will never touch another one of those things again. Ever since that night, my house has been haunted as all hell. No joke.
