Do you TRULY love your kids?

We know that God created suffering so we would be able to understand love. How could you appreciate a good day if you didn't know what it was to have a bad day? You need both the yin and the yang; the good and the bad. I know that every parent out there loves their children, and wants their children to be able to appreciate love. I understand it may be difficult for some parents to create the suffering their children need. Luckily it isn't necessary for you to create this suffering yourself.

Instead, you can hire a professional, such as myself! My child beating services are full of hate and cause a great deal of pain and suffering, GUARANTEED! Emotional pain is a tricky matter, but with your help, I can script insults aimed at all of your child's deepest insecurities. If you love your children like you love jesus, let me do the hating.

For those that don't know, I've just released a new product aimed at disciplining unruly children. It's a low voltage cattle prod designed specifically to keep toddlers in line.

*laughs* the hotline is a superb idea. i'll even pay for you to visit some of the families from my childhood church..

but as far as the cattle prod goes....LOW voltage? psshht sticking their tongues in electrical sockets is the only way to go..
you have to really rattle some teeth with the younguns these days to make an impression.., what with their flashy mobiles with spinning chrome mini-rims, their battery powered jeeps, and holographic barneys.

If I had kids, I'd definitely let you beat them for me, ITM. It's for the greater good, right? I received a few ass-beatings when I was a kid and I turned out great! (LOL)

Okay, I just have to say that I found this post highly offensive. Obviously it was meant as a joke, and I'm in the minority here, but for someone who has had a couple of people close to them deeply affected by child abuse -- one of them is essentially ruined for life; the jury's still out on the other -- it's a touchy subject and it pains me to see it thrown about in a light-hearted manner.

And I don't think it belongs in Religion, either -- really has nothing to do with it. IMO, it's kind of underhanded to throw in a mention of God and Jesus just so you can post something in a forum where you know it won't be moderated.

I was abused as a child and I happen to think InTheMoment's post was funny - it's obviously a joke. It may not belong in the Religion/Spirituality forum, but it was not meant to be malicious in any way. Lighten up.

i agree. some of the most horrible things in life can only be laughed at sometimes. its therapeutic.

i know your not one to get offended without good reason tygerhawk. i know people who have suffered from child abuse as well. that is precisely why it helps to joke about it. i feel their pain so deeply if i dwell on it, that its a welcome release to laugh it off.

      nobody meant any harm...

I agree, I had the crap beat out of me most my life. I don't find this thread offensive at all. Its was a way for me to laugh about alot of things that have pledged me for years. Reading Mark75's addition made me laugh more. I even pointed it out to my hubbie as "I remember that one". The one that stuck out the most was the The skull thump. I think after homework my brain was permanantly damaged

Just to add something...I put this in the Religon/Spirituality forum, cuz I was originally inspired to write this from some of the previous posts that I've read concerning duality and god's reason for allowing suffering.

I got really sick of hearing the highly illogical argument that an omnipotent and omnibenevolent being would allow suffering and evil to exist. If I was truly all-powerful and all-loving, I wouldn't have to create suffering to make my creations appreciate joy. Period.

And for those who might be offended in ANYthing that I post, I don't apologize. That's just me...learn to love it or leave it.

This only stems from your misunderstanding of God. God does not "create" suffering to make mankind appreciate joy. Your analogy is that you, the child abuser (God), beats children (mankind) so that they can appreciate love. The problem with this analogy (besides the fact that it is about child abuse) is that God does not abuse mankind so that it can appreciate love. God provides only love, it is mankind that abuses itself.

First, you are mis-taking the idea of duality. Duality does not mean that you need to suffer in order to understand love (love is a self-evident principle). It means that if love exists, its opposite, hatred, has the possibility of existing. God is the Infinite, He is everything, every possibility. If suffering, hatred, hell, were not included as possibilities, this would limit God and therefore not make Him the Infinite. There would then be something other than God, but God has no opposite, for all opposites are included in Him.

Mankind is meant to live in God's love, but to fully explain how evil came into existance through man's own doing (and then to actually understand it) would take an incredibly deep study of the Self (of which the chapters of Genesis provide an excellent point of departure...Garden of Eden-Adam-Eve-the Fall). I could only touch the surface here if you are interested, but I could refer you to further reading which could be used as basis for self-realization.

lol, you are brilliant, man. I'd be doubly impressed if you didn't take more than a few minutes to think this up. Great way to lighten the pressure when it comes to religious debate.

      Then you state...
God is the Infinite, He is everything, every possibility. If suffering, hatred, hell, were not included as possibilities, this would limit God and therefore not make Him the Infinite. First you say that god does not create suffering, yet he provides love. Then you say god is everything (including love & hate). So you're actually contradicting yourself when you say that god provides only love, because IF he is infinite, then he is also the opposite of love.

I'm well read in the books of the Old Testament and no matter how deeply you delve into the scriptures of Genesis, it always comes back to god being ultimately responsible for the sin and evil that is a part of our reality.

If you can explain how evil and sin is not god's fault, then by all means I would like to hear it.

WOW MY THIRD POST IN A ROW

About the love hate suffering thing inthemoment. It's called duality. Get used to it and stop your winging. If you want to blame anyone. Blame yourself for been a weakling. Don't like suffering? Don't like these hurtful things? Maybe you should stay in the garden of eden for the rest of your life. I'm sure that would stimulate your consiousness for eternity. Having no challenge is your idea of perfection after all isn't it. It's not like you'd ever get bored with your intelligence.
