Anyways... I think everyone hear should check out this debate.

May 5, its airing live. Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron square off against two atheists, claiming that they will not use the bible, but only solid facts, to prove that God exists.

This idea came about because these two atheists (I can't remember their names) run a website that asks people to make a video saying "I deny God" and for them to post it on YouTube.

Martin Bashir, co-anchor of Nightline, will moderate the event.

      official article

If you choose not to watch it, you can't blame me for supposedly "never contributing anything to the arguement."

Thanks. I can't wait to watch that. They say atheism is an embarassment and that the existence of God can be proven intellectually? Man, that's what I've been looking for this whole time. I will definitely watch it.

I am not one of the people who wants to "deny" God. I just don't think he exists. The people who do that and single out Christianity in doing it are bitter toward Christianity probably because it scared the shit out of them when they were kids and keeps their liquor stores closed on Sundays now and seeps into the law in other irrationally inhibiting ways. Cameron has a lot to learn about how atheism does not result in school shootings. Conscience is an autonomic response to the causing of unnecessary suffering, not a thought out religious decision tendency. No atheist has ever flown an airplane into a skyscraper or blown up a cafe in Israel or an abortion clinic. Most atheists are really good people because they value life much more than the people who think this life is an insignificant moment that precedes eternal existence with some god.

in Sweden as many as 85 percent of the population are non-believers;[/b]
I am moving to Sweden, whoo-hoo.

Also, interesting Christian-propaganda, I am wondering how that debate will end up. Probably with a laugh. Do you want me to link you to debates where Christians fail miserably, also with no use of the bible?

Thanks for the heads up metcalfracing,
Ive only watched a few of the clips but I already wish i was there to ask questions... What always got me thinking was this:

if its true that god created us, and that god is all knowing, then while creating man he knew that man would sin.. so in essence he created beings that would sin and knowing full well they would also decided to judge us on those actions.
If i created AI that i knew full well would end up killing someone then id be judged and punished because i could have stopped it.. If god does exist and christianity is true then shouldn't we be the one's judging god, not the other way around. God created us to sin.

Dont want to turn it into a full debate, im just curious if theres a common answer to this.

For...Pete's sake (<< be on the safe side), can't people just realise that no one is ever going to prove or disprove god in our lifetime... to both atheists and theists their arguments seem obvious.
I liked the banana thing though
Why not just let people believe what they want? Why do we all have to try and convert everyone. If atheists are doomed to burn in hell, then hey, let them

I saw the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, and I think that this is a great comment on how everyone is far too serious about what people believe...

I totally agree. I was drunk in New Orleans Saturday night and didn't see the debate, but I watched highlights of it on the internet. I was really hoping Kirk and the banana man would have some good arguments, but their responses were so terrible I really felt sorry for them. I really mean that. They should have done some research on what the major atheist arguments are and been prepared to counter them. Instead, they acted like they had never come across them in their lives.

The atheists made the point that existence has always been by discussing the First Law of Thermodynamics. They used it to argue that the components of our universe could have existed forever and therefore its existence does not have to be explained by something even greater that has existed forever. The atheists totally screwed up on it too. For one thing, the guy called it the "Third" Law of Thermodynamics, and he also assumed that the matter in the universe existed before the big bang, which is supposedly not adequately proven. And still, much to my absolute amazement and disappointment, Kirk and the banana man flat out said they wanted to pass on responding to the point. I couldn't believe it. That's like a baseball team saying they want to skip their turn at bat. On top of that, it was the banana guy who said he could prove the existence of God scientifically and without using the Bible, and he ended up discussing what's written in the Bible. What was he thinking?

It was as if the two Christians liked their own ideas so much they dared to jump in front of national television cameras and boast that they could prove God exists. It's wise to do research on the plays of the other team and to scrimmage before a game. I would really like to see another debate when Kirk and Mr. Banana have prepared themselves as much as they possibly can. It would be interesting to see how that dialogue would end up going.

Nothing can prove, nor disprove "god" yet. I don't believe in "god", but i wont rule out there could be one. I bet if a scientist who goes for non god stuff proves god exists he will scrape it and work on a way to prove he doesn't exist without telling anyone, and vice versa ona scientist trying to prove he exists.

I just watched all the videos and I have to say I expected a more logical approach from Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron. Much of their argument was fallacial in the form of appeals to authority by citing intelligent people of faith, straw man fallacies by arguing against a wrong understanding of evolutional theory, begging the question by citing the bible and anecdotal evidence by explaining the nature of each of their personal conversions. They did not use science and logic, like they claimed they would, but instead extensively used the bible and their personal faith to back up their claims, which they claimed they wouldn't. No hard, logical evidence was even presented by Cameron and Comfort.

Claiming an argument is valid and logical does not make it so guys.

It seems to me that these two are just using this televised debate to evangelize to a much larger group of people than they regularly reach and lending it more credence first by claiming their argument is scientific and logical and second by getting the debate hosted by Nightline.

The only thing either side "proved" was how ignorant they are of God. Such dark times...
