      Talking The best religion!

ok this is a simple concept really, has happened several times during medieval times, and would be fun to try now (with all the knowledge about obscure religions that the internets has to offer).

so, there is a (very important) person that wants to choose a religion and you have to convince him about one. But your religion has to compete with the other ones so it should be the best/coolest or you have to trick him into it, or whatever you want (leave out the bad things about it or point out the bad things about other peoples suggestions...)

Please suspend your religious/atheist beliefs for this thread and just choose any religion you want (its supposed to be a fun thread)

PS: the Russians almost became Muslim this way until the Christian guy pointed out that this meant NO VODKA

No religion is the best religion. Religion is what's wrong with the world today.

      hmm,

Islam has Mohammed but he was just a prophet, christianity had Jesus who was the son of god so would blatenly own Mohammed in a fight...Personally its obvious that with their super cool attitude buddhas (of buddhism) have got to take it, nothing phases them, even Jesus would become irritated by their lack of humanity.

Jesus: "My father gave you emotions for a reason, what the hell did you do with them!"
Buddha: "Im afraid i cant accept your gift of anger."
      Jesus: "F*ck You!"

Please dont bring up buddhisms whole aversion to eating meat thing, as a natural carnivore i always skip that part.

Mohammed and Buddha are actually historical characters with historical evidence. Moses for example was completely wrong as their were no Jewish slaves or any archeolgical evidence of the walking around the desert bit. Jesus http://youtube.com/watch?v=Xj6tQNWuGJ8
I think Buddha and Mohammed can beat a imaginary character.

Islam sucks because all your Muslim companions live either in the desert or in the jungle. No pork, no ham, no ribs, no bacon, no drugs, no alcohol. Not only that, but Allah has all the wrath of God with half the mercy.

But Christianity is all about worshipping symbols. There is no meaning to that religion, nothiong about it will save your soul. Christian religious leaders preach nothing but misconceptions, and all the original philosophy is ignored.

Sure, Buddhism is cool if you want to sit around all day thinking. Yes, enjoy your boredom.

Oh, and I'm afraid after they die all atheists' bodies are hurled into space these days so unfortunately they don't get to give back to the cycle of life afterwards.

If you want a real religion, pick Hinduism. Okay, for one, you get kharma, which is a lot better than God's mercy or wrath. Universal justice is based on universal law, not one omnipotent being's grace. That's cooler, isn't it? And let's look at heaven, if your muslim you get 70 preteen ugly girls screaming at your for eternity. If your Christian you get to sit on a cloud... doing nothing. Only in hinduism do you get to keep coming back here over and over again. Accidently take a long walk off a short cliff? No worries, because you get a do-over.

Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.

Glad you did your research first... (sarcasm) I don't worship any symbol, nor should any Christian, the only thing I can see what you're talking about is Catholicism, which i believe for the most part is not Christian (not saying that all Catholics are un-Christian, just the most of the ones I knew/grew up with). A Christian church would worship nothing but God.

Now for the topic at hand, if the could be a "cool" religion it would be Chritihindubhudipastaism I mean you would get a Flying spaghetti monster who is all powerful, extremely forgiving, you can die and come back as something else, there's karma, you'd be very pacifistic, among other things. If there was a religion like that, who would even bother trying to dispute it, you would only marvel at it's glory, and laugh a little at the flying spaghetti monster.

I like Hinduism, in its original form, the most. Existence itself has consciousness, its consciousness is in a state of complete bliss, it exists in the form of all things, and humans can become aware that they are the great consciousness that is everything. Everything is one, everything is wonderful, and there is nothing to worry about. Beautiful.

The religion I hate the most is Islam. It turns my stomach upside down. I despise it on a major level. I don't hate all Muslims, but I hate what they believe. Their book is influencing way too many people to aim toward genocide on my country. Before 9/11, I didn't feel that way. But now I know a lot more about the influence Islam is having on the world, and it is a disgusting picture. It is so ironic that we are so hated for being "infidels", but the measures the fascists (so great in number) of that religion are having in response to our supposed infidelhood are driving us very far away from their religion. Isn't that supposed to be exactly what they don't want? If they would approach us with smiles and talk to us about the good news about Allah, they would be winning us over much more in their direction. Instead, they are saying, "Screw you for not believing what we believe even though you know very little about it! Die! All of you, DIE! Uh, are you converted yet?" So stupid.

I think that stuff came later. That is why I said I was talking about its original form. Then again, I might be talking about cool stuff I liked about early Hinduism when I studied it while overlooking some bad aspects.

Religions are like radio stations. They start out really cool, but it is a matter of time before they sell out and really start to suck. DJ's will talk and talk about "legends of classic rock" and "the greatest music of all time", but sooner or later, the station gets infiltrated by Phil Collins and Kajagoogoo. (Excuse me while I change the subject.) I think the moment a radio station goes to shit is always marked by the Katrina and the Waves song "Walking on Sunshine". When you hear that song, you know it's all over.

Any way, that is just like what happens to religions. They start out with a bunch of trippy stuff about the spirituality of being in tune with the universe and peace for all mankind, but they end up being infested with people who scream about killing people for not joining and how nobody is allowed to eat muffins on Wednesdays.

thats like the best explanation of religion evolution I've heard in a long long time... [rant] its also a bit like bands and band followers. In the beginning you have some guys playing music and the people that like it and their friends listening and having fun and all is cool, and then if they make it big, they become like god and nobody can say "Curt Cobain (random name) is an asshole" without having 100 angry "followers" throwing stones at him (although he maybe knows the singer and/or the singer wouldnt mind being called that). [/rant]

      Benefits of Scientology

      >You may be able to master mind over matter!
      >You have lived many lives in the past and will continue to have many lives in the future!
      >Through our method of auditing, you can free yourself of all spiritual and emotional pain
      >You can force people to follow your religion b/c you would have a tape of all of their personal information (you receive it through the auditing)

You will be able to control your citizens with this religion and create a dictatorship. You will have all of their personal information and will be able to use it against them when you need to. You can trap them in your religion by saying that you will release said information to the public if they leave. Also, there is a great chance that one day you will gain the power to control their minds, thereby securing your throne for life.

      Beat that!

Well, all of the money that people have to pay to the religion to become enlightened will go straight into the pockets of the king and his minions! Therefore, for a king, this religion rocks!

is it not true that the russian (king?) in medieval times asked people from the known religions to come and argue so he can pick the best for him and his people? He was almost ready to become Muslim, but then someone pointed out that Muslims can't drink alcohol, so he went for Orthodox Christian instead. I have read this in a "popular history" book, but you as a russian might be able to clarify...

PS: imagine living in Russia without heating (500 yrs ago) and without vodka... Islam was definitely made for hotter climates.

Why pick on Islam? They're only doing what the other two abrahamic religions have done throughout history. Most religions infact will shed blood for the advancement of their religion. I mean what did the "forefathers" of our country, the explorers and Spanish Conquistadors do? They came to this already populated country, "clamied" it as their own, stole from and raped the natives, and then forcibly destroyed their culture and grusomely altered the very beliefs that made them, "THEM". I mean, this is only one of countless examples. If you're going to pick on anyone for doing the "you don't believe in what I do, so die" thing, it should surely be the Christians!!!!!

Saying "their book" is "influencing way too many people to aim for genocide" in the US. Is such an ignorant statement, which is odd since I've read much from you I saw as valid. If you actually read the Koran or Quarran or however you want to spell it, you would know that like most other religious texts it preaches pacifism, respect for others, giving (sharing of wealth amongst the poor), among other noble things. It is the work of Islamic Fundamentalists that produces organizations like Al-Qaida which threaten the US. Fundamentalist groups are just as dangerous whether they be Islamic or Jehovah Witness. Fundamentalists of all religions or even ideas take an extremely warped view of the bigger idea. They express views which are historically innaccurate to the religion which they claim to adhere. Go to your local mosque and ask any parishoner their take on the 9/11 attacks, I guarantee their view will be much more similar to yours than you would imagine.

This kind of thinking is very dangerous.
