Thread: Intelligent Design? I think not

Well, some will argue that the intelligent design was actually 'life' in general. They built a planet that can sustain life, and they created "carbon based life" (unicellular), and let us evolve.

...heh but let's face it, ID is not a philosophical movement. It's a creationist agenda, so they'll never concede to that, because that would mean conceding to evolution. It's too bad, cause in that context, evolution and ID could exist together very happily.

Would someone explain 'god's purpose' for including these oh-so-useless organs? Or, perhaps, they used to have a use (some of them), but due to evolution, they are now unnecessary?

Appendix: I'm pretty sure that the appendix was used for raw meat and we slowly stopped needing it and became useless (this is what I've been told )

Wisdom teeth: For those times when we had something really tough to chew. Or when people lost their teeth at the age of 10 and people needed some more teeth (not fact )

Male nipples: To know when it's cold out? (personal interpretation)

I think the ID people just want to interpret the "origin" of life and they are not contending with evolution, It would just be ridiculous to argue against evolution through natural selection as the examples are far too numerous (and we can actually see evolution of traits in the lab, and population changes in nature). The origin of life (the change from non-life to life) is a really more complicated problem where science doesnt yet have a good explanation and so the ID people can find a place to use God. That's until a good explanation is found (maybe life created in the lab from basic chemicals?) and then they will move god to the creation of the planet or the creation of the universe...

the gods used to live a few km from my place, then they moved them to the sky, now they go back in time and far away to the big bang until people decide there is no reason for them existing at all...

well also if you magnify say a part of an arm like 100x...ewww its not a pretty place, skin full of cracks and hairs kinda ripping through messy flaky craters. It's hardly the image of perfection..

You'd be surprised sogart, most fundamental intelligent design advocates disagree with evolution, despite the scientific evidence. Homer, I think you are missing my point. I realize WHY the organs are there - becuase they USED to serve a point, but evolution has made them pointless. But using the logic of Intelligent Design - that evolution did not exist, makes the existence of these vestigial organs very unusual. Because god supposedly made us perfect, but he gave us such useless organs (According to the theory).

The point is that at one point they were useful, I don't see why that disproves that God created us perfectly just because we don't need them now.

God made us perfect for when we had to live in caves and eat raw meat, now that we have houses, cigarretes and bombs, who needs god.

Homer you are misunderstanding me... do you know what the theory of intelligent design is? It's that god created us "perfect" and that evolution isn't true. We were simply created this way, as we are. Therefore the vestigial organs would, according to that theory, make no sense, becuase in the theory of intelligent design evolution isn't true.

aye and like i said, we wouldnt look soo yukky up close, we would be nice and smooooth.

The appendix is evolution's penis that rapes intelligent design. It might be a small penis, but it keeps on raping, and raping, and raping. Eventually the Anus of IT will get sore, and people will see it's a silly unscientific theory.

well, not from their point of view

any biologist worth his salt could come up with a much longer list of "defects"
but the ID crowd always has a reason why such defects exist

usually along the lines of
"well, we were created perfect, but after eve ate the apple and humanity was cast out of Eden, defects crept in as we were now on our own and without god's aid"

these arguments really aren't anything new

"evolutionary theists" maintain that god put the whole of life and evolution on the track and sent it rolling, therefore to them vestigal organs arent a particular challenge.

but ID is merely a politically correct stab at trying to sneak creationism into schools. i mean if you went up to an ID'er and said "I believe aliens designed us as a genetic experiment" i think they would get very upset even though they are "scientifically" just proposing "a designer" of some kind.

the aliens be trying to steal gods thunder and all that.
