im assuming you want answers only from fellow Christians, so i guess we should saty out.

Obviously to me it means nothing as it's just a book. But it often happens, slaves uprising and western Governments(for the most part) helping to free suffering civilians.

Of course from my point of view, you who you is meek right now? Who has little power? The cockroach!

When we go nuclear the cockroaches and other small animals, the meek, will inherit the Earth as they are the only survivors. They will evolve the spread over the globe, eventually another sentient being will elvove, maybe it will be insect this time. However it would be small unless insects start evolving a lung system.

I thought it was
"....for they shall inherit the earth"

You know, too meek to make it on their own
so have to wait for their relatives to die, and mooch off their wealth

it is but in the Newer bibles, the ones without the thou and thee, they change it to posses sometimes.

Not the same meaning exactly, but close enough. Then again the small differenc ein meaning of those two words was in our ownh language, imagine what the bible said when it was first written? Before its words were translated through around four languages, languages that had words we cannot describe, and that didnt have words for whatwe have today. Greek had like 10 words for love, what kidn of love did the bible mean? If it ever was the word of God, it isnt truly taht anymore. Tis is the Qu'ran isnt changed, if it is it isnt declared the word of God anymore.

What's interesting to note is that fundies are not meek, by definition. It's a good thing .

Oh no, not at all. I know this is more confined to the Christian religions, but I'm interested in what others think about this topic.

Through primate evolution, as the species get smarter and smarter, they get wimpier and wimpier. Intelligence takes away the need for physical toughness. The average gorilla could beat the ever living Hell out of the average human, but humans dominate the planet. The meek already own the Earth.

Well, it's not the meekest of the meek that have inherited the Earth. But it's not the most unmeek of the unmeek either. I think those skinny aliens with big eyes people keep seeing might be the future of humanity. I'm sure you could kick all of their asses.

I'm sure meek does not mean someone who can't defend himself from the disturbed..

You are talking about a book written by Jews. They're like the poster children of the meek (or at least they were when they wrote that.) Any persecuted population is going to claim that it is god's holy testament that the persecuted will inherit the earth.

Now, in terms of piety, one does not need much to live a life that drives towards enlightenment. If the meek is synonymous with those with few posessions, then yes it makes perfectly logical sense. When the shit hits the fan, it is going to be the people who can survive on very little who will be able to survive at all.

True, one can be forced to be meek due to his enviromnent, then become dangerous (unmeekafied) when that environment is gone. Hmm, there is no black or white answer for this one it seems. In theory, after the meek inherit the world, they would become as bad as people are now in due time.
