Don't get your hopes up. We still have a long way to go, and when/if atheism grows to an influential size, be ready for some sort of conflict. If the theists ever become a dying breed, they may become defensivley fanatical.

I don't think this will happen in our lifetime. No way.

So the best-selling book wins the debate?

Wait, what's the number-one best-selling book of all time, by a margin of more than five billion copies? Blast, I know I have that list here somewhere. . . .
      LD Counter (as of 07.25.07) = 5 (2 WILDs)
Short-term goal: Recall three full dreams a night for a full week.
Long-term goal: Have three LDs per week for one month.
Longer-term goal: Have one six-hour LD every night! (Shooting too high? We'll see.)
Waking life goal: Round up some NPSG equipment to study my own sleep patterns.

You're right, it doesn't prove or disprove the existence of God. When I read those numbers, all I see is atheism gaining support and attention. I can be happy with that.

As to your #1 selling book. I would have to say the threat of hell played a part somewhere in the overwhealming amount of sales.

It is also ironic that the book about god and savior is "sold" and not given away to save humanity. Bible manufaturers get rich.

I think just about any church you go to would give you a Bible for free if you asked them for one.

Yet, the manufacturers get money. As for church's, why do they need multimillion dollar complexes to hold service? At my old church, the priests had a bigger house than I did when I was a kid.

I've asked myself that question more than once. The Notre Dame Cathedral in Montreal kind of disgusts me that way - they sometimes hold mass where you actually have to pay to get in, and I think that's wrong. Either don't hold mass and convert to a museum, or hold mass and don't charge. If any random dude from the street can't go to your mass, you're in the wrong.

"oooh, we need the money to maintain our giant building with super-duper high ceilings..." Here's an idea: Sell one of your towers on eBay!

Why is Atheism talk allowed here anyway? i thought this was a religious/spiritual forum? It's not even a religion, just a bunch of non believers. Nobody knows the truth untill their dead anyway, or their full of sh*t.

Yes, that was my point. It seems people are leaning towards the rational instead of the irrational. Gives me some hope

By your logic, Harry Potter is winning and is the best thing ever. Now this is not true. Plus truth is not a popularity contest, Hitler won the election before the first world war does that make Hitler correct? no. Does chrisitianity brainwashing people make it correct? no.

Dammit the sales rate looks depressing, is this amazon.com or amazon.co.uk, as I think atheism is popular in the uk. So if your not american then I think your doing better.

I agree. To add more, I think the winner is the person who is correct.

You guys all get really mad at the cathedrals so let me try and explain it to you. In the past the church was trying to show how much more important and glorifyed and powerful and majestic and holy and beuatiful god is over human beings. Now the church is trying to show how important each individual is to god, hence the small churchs that don't make people feel small and unnoticed. Do you get it (I mean this politely)? I do agree that it is wrong to charge admission, jesus would have been mad at this.

Ya but i think it says religious discussion, so i suppose a good type of discussion would be different religions and non believers discussing stuff too. Let us welcome all the peoples.

And, indeed, he was. Remember those "incidents" at the temple?

Jesus Christ guys, do I really need to change the topic title? I meant winning not in any form of literal sense. What I meant was it seems that people are starting to have more common sense because more people are reading thought-provoking books like The God Delusion and not stupid rebutal tripe like The God Solution. That was all I was pointing out. I'll be more painfully specific next time.

You can't give unless you take. The law of equivelent exchange exists to some degree.

If everybody gave away their possessions to the poor, it would make you poor, and you would recieve from people. There would be no poor people. Jesus' theories run themselves into a rut.

Why do poor people deserve my stuff? Just for having a beating heart? "For he who smells worse deserves more"?

Do you understand that the world would NEVER advance if we did what Jesus told us? Thats why we DONT do what he told us. If everybody in the whole world had everything they needed, there would be no inventions. Why would you work hard to make this stuff just to give it away?

Jesus, probably a factual person, was a socialist philosopher. His theories don't create the greater good, as time has told. It denies human nature.
