Mneh, im getting annoyed, none of the theists will directly answer any of my questions, they either dodge them, or ignore them.

No but seriously, just try to bring up your questions in a manner which they will feel is constructive. For example, try asking them why they don't believe in Norse Gods, and if they think that they would have believed in them had they been born in those times. Something which will be insightful for you and them, hopefully.

Hey Seismosaur's back, the flame wars can resume:p. Anyway I'll try to answer your question. Most of these people you describe have either grown up with the beliefs and can't really imagine it being another way since they have believed it so long, or their lives have been changed through religion and so they associate it with good, positive things. Also I'd point out that although there is not scientific proof for a god, I don't think the idea is illogical. I'm curious if anyone has read books that try to prove god and what the books give as reasons. I havn't read any of them and just wonder what their arguments are.

Well, let me put it in perspective. Which would be more rational to believe in this scenario:

You roll a die cube, and it lands on six.

Now, would you believe that it landed six-up because:

God made it so.

Gravity, friction, and the shape of the object all moved so that it bounced, then rolled, and came to a stop with the side labeled six up.

This is what i mean by logic. One could easily say "Well, god made it land like that", BUT, there is no proof to back this statement. On the other hand, we CAN in fact observe the way the object was thrown, and the forces of gravity and friction working to stop the object. Thus causing it to land the way it did.

I agree, I just meant that it is not illogical that there could be a higher power out there that made the universe, laws of nature, whatever. It doesn't have to be a god in the biblical sense but it could be in a way that humans can't understand. Kind of an underlying power throughout the universe. It's hard to explain but there is so much out there that humans can't comprehend that I just don't think that it is illogical to believe that such a thing is out there unifying the universe.

Praying that you'll role a 6 and then having a die come up 6 and then claiming that God did it is not exactly a firm argument for a creator and I don't say it is, although there are some who do. I just think we can't rule out there being a god because we don't comprehend alot about the universe.

True, but as i say often, if there is a god, there is no way ANY of us got it right, period. That's silly. And selfish. And desriminitive. But oh well. People'll think what they want.

This sort of thread is on par with masterbation. Its only purpose is self satisfaction and its bound to leave a mess as a result. In fact, its just down right emabarassing at this point. Just about every thing you post has to do with bashing theology, Seis. How pathetic is that? Im not defending religion, but you need to get a life and move the fuck on for christ sake, no pun intended.

There is a book called "Finding Darwin's God" by Kenneth R. Miller. This is an unbelievably insightful book for theists and atheists alike (as well as agnostics). Let’s just say that theism and evolution do not actually contradict each other, only our misconceptions of theology and misconceptions of evolution do. If you want to know how that’s even possible, read the book. It will probably change the way you see the theory of evolution and theology, regardless of if you are a theist or a believer in evolution, or both.

You don't want an explanation, you just want an argument. Everything is black and white to you and you want to make sure nobody gets away with thinking differently. Hell, you can't even differentiate between different religions and so latch on to the only one you can think of; christianity. There is no point here to stick to. Argumentation, or 'bashing' as you call it, against a standpoint that is not your own, to share insights, is what forum is for, if you ask me.

I believe in God because I've had prayers answered, felt the holy spirit, and have been conviced beyond doubt of his existince.

Now, could you directly answer a question for me? Why insult theists (e.g calling us all "fanatical", and the idea of God "illogical")? Why not live and let live? I wish we could just share our view of religion and spirituality without trying to convince everyone that our views, and our views alone, are correct.
